  1. Oh right! And there was the controversy Flash Fans. Could a book with a 1-2" tear on the cover grade to a 4.5 or since it was such a key book was it 'gifted' grade?
  2. Did the notes say it was a tear on the cover? Or was it just wrinkled? I had it at 3.5 thinking it was a tear.
  3. Checking in Flash fans! There was a huge debate over in the grading contest about the SC #4. Take a look at it when you get the chance and share your thoughts. I'd like to know what you other true Flash fans think here in our thread. No matter what the grade is ...I wish I could!
  4. I am guilty of over thinking these sometimes. If you allow yourself to, you can talk yourself up or down + or - a grade almost always and that's the trap of extra time () In the real world when I'm grading comics for the local comic book clubs, you don't have the luxury of that kind of time. The owner of the book nervously looking on, 5 minutes can seem like an eternity! But I like to think I can deliver a fairly accurate grade in about 5 minutes or so. Of course having the book in hand makes all the difference in the world!
  5. It was tough!!! Lots of challenging books and lots of confounding CGC grades---I have yet to crack the CGC secret sauce!
  6. Nice score Grendelbo!!! I'm not too far behind, sitting at 18 points, but I would have to pull of a miracle in round 4 to end up in the top 3!
  7. Being a Flash fan I would have loved to 'give' it a 4.5 but honestly there is no way...I treated the tear like a spine split as the grading guide gives us some guidance there. And then tried to be generous as I knew CGC would be and came up with a 3.5. Just looking at the tear or possible tear (as we don't have the benefit of having the book in hand) it appeared to be to be at least 1 1/2" possibly more. The grading guide says up to a 1" spine split for a 4.0. Taking that into consideration with the other defects I felt that it was a 3.5 but I realize now I should have given it a 'CGC' 4.0. I still would have been 1 grade off !
  8. Nice score! You did very well on a tough round! I'm still licking my wounds and re-calibrating before I attempt to grade this last round.
  9. I will take a look and grade them tonight! Thank you Mike for doing another one of these amazing contests!!!
  10. I guess there is a difference between staining, foxing, tanning--- whatever discolored the back of that crime book. It looked like a combo of all three to me. But it seems that foxing would not hit the book as hard as say staining or soiling.
  11. Are there 2 more rounds? Or just one more?...let me just go back and check
  12. America's Greatest #5 - 7.5 - could have been at 8.0 but I thought it was a stretch and backed down to 7.5 Fight Against Crime #14 - 5.0 - would have been at 6 or better but that back cover was way too dirty I hit the book hard for that Showcase #4 - 3.5 - maybe i imagined a 1 1/2 inch tear at the bottom? with the staple rust could maybe go to 4.0??? Fantastic Four #25 - 3.0 I could go with a 2.5 Supernatural Thrillers #5 - 9.6- a few too many tiny flaws for me to go with a 9.8 but hey
  13. The dumpster fire that are my grades continue to float towards Thursday!
  14. I'm putting mine in tonight after one more look. I could not in good conscience look at or grade anything last night. I was in no condition
