  1. I’m sorry to hear this… one thing I do do when I decide to take the commission plunge is look at as many examples as can that are recent for the artist.. and if I’m guessing your artist I haven’t seen something I would want from him in quite some time.
  2. I’m not a big commission guy for a few reasons.. 1 big reason is being disappointed with something I spend a punch of money on is not the experience I am looking for lol. Some people myself included just aren’t cut out for commissioning at least at high dollars. That being said I do dabble a bit and have had some turn out not to my liking. I’ve sold/traded some of them away as like people said above, just because it didn’t meet my expectations doesnt mean someone else won’t love it!
  3. Must see tv here! I’ll be sure to tune in.
  4. Mixed bag but definitely on the soft side as you said the Thor covers where soft , the mad X-men page sold for a ton more within the year (someone took a bath on that) Clink auction timing also continues to confound me.. two days after Labor Day, kids starting school.. against a heritage auction at the same time . They either have really bad luck with timing or don’t really consider what’s going on in the rest of the world.
  5. OP- I’m not sure if the price is correct… but you are talking about one of the earliest published images of Mignola signature characters. I mean your comparison to a Superman cover or recent hellboy cover doesn’t hold a lot of water. It’s like asking why vintage Byrne X-men pages are 50k and X-men hidden years by Byrne are 3k or Byrne Star Trek pages are 300
  6. Had a blast as usual! The show is so unique because it is just OA collectors.. great time seeing friends I don’t see all the time and talking OA. Also was able to make a couple trades for some nice pieces. A Buscema page from Bizarre adventures .. 1981 Phoenix! and a great battle page from the What If Conan fought Wolverine
  7. Thanks Dave! many other targets lol… especially in the peripheral titles like new mutants xfactor etc. but this was fun to do and really helped me focus . After a break I may set a new goal 🤔
  8. You got it!! I’ll keep the thread alive when I get something new from these artists. Thanks for all the support!
  9. 3 years 5 months… wooooo… I can now retire my collecting! Lol 😉
  10. Drum roll please…… and I am done! (Well unless some upgrades present themselves to me) the last artist needed was Ian Churchill.. and thanks to a few heads up about his site I was able to procure this VDPS from Uncanny X-men Annual 18
  11. OP … here is what I’ll tell you.. now I haven’t sold with HA .. but I did talk to them about consigning and decided against it. Unless you have super primo stuff and can negotiate the fees down , there fees are daunting. You are talk 30 plus % of the final number. And we all get dazzled by the numbers they get on the primo stuff .. but other than that top top pieces..start pulling those percentages out and the numbers are not that exciting. In addition something you have to factor (and I’m hearing this from friends who use them) with the market changing your pieces may not come up for auction for months.. so we are seeing prices come down from what someone could have gotten for the piece when they submitted. Another factor to consider is that you will not be paid out for 60 days after the auction close. So it is a long and risky process in my opinion. For me with a little elbow grease and being reasonable selling privately has worked out. But if you have a stack of A+ pieces heritage may be worth the hassle.
  12. Thanks Nate! Working with them now… maybe finished soon!
  13. Thanks for the add! I have a pedigree of the Jason Quest cgc book somewhere lol.
  14. Now finally… I was able to break one of my chests a real Byrne X-men page has joined the stable!
  15. Omg it feels like forever since I could update everyone on my quest… only two artists left and pretty stuck. Ian Churchill has been much harder then I ever thought it would be (admittedly some fumbles on my part like not knowing how Goldins auctions work , bad set up and info on there part fyi) Kia Asamiya is whole different problem.. he is a manga artist and they don’t sell ANY of their OA … I was able to connect with his rep in Japan and plead my case … but it went no where ugggh… I was able to get Kia to do a sketch for me so that will have to suffice for a check mark on this one. Big stretch but the best I can do! Now someone please sell me a Churchill X-men page!!! Lol
  16. Stroman is always in hot water… I don’t really feel bad for guys that get beat by him because it takes two seconds on google to find out he can be trouble . Now I have gotten a few things from him.. but I never pay up front and I always line it up to pick up in person. You have to know what you are dealing with.
  17. Pre lims can be a lot of fun.. and a much more affordable way to collect an artist.. sometimes even more affordable than commissions. The issues with pricing prelims is they vary wildly not only quality wise but size finish etc so to try to tag an arbitrary % to buying them is tough. Here are a couple pieces I recently picked up from Alan Davis.. a “rough” and a “prelim” they are both on letter size paper.. and cost (for both) maybe 5% of what the cover would cost and maybe 20% of a full figure pencil commission would cost:
