  1. Omg it feels like forever since I could update everyone on my quest… only two artists left and pretty stuck. Ian Churchill has been much harder then I ever thought it would be (admittedly some fumbles on my part like not knowing how Goldins auctions work , bad set up and info on there part fyi) Kia Asamiya is whole different problem.. he is a manga artist and they don’t sell ANY of their OA … I was able to connect with his rep in Japan and plead my case … but it went no where ugggh… I was able to get Kia to do a sketch for me so that will have to suffice for a check mark on this one. Big stretch but the best I can do! Now someone please sell me a Churchill X-men page!!! Lol
  2. Stroman is always in hot water… I don’t really feel bad for guys that get beat by him because it takes two seconds on google to find out he can be trouble . Now I have gotten a few things from him.. but I never pay up front and I always line it up to pick up in person. You have to know what you are dealing with.
  3. Pre lims can be a lot of fun.. and a much more affordable way to collect an artist.. sometimes even more affordable than commissions. The issues with pricing prelims is they vary wildly not only quality wise but size finish etc so to try to tag an arbitrary % to buying them is tough. Here are a couple pieces I recently picked up from Alan Davis.. a “rough” and a “prelim” they are both on letter size paper.. and cost (for both) maybe 5% of what the cover would cost and maybe 20% of a full figure pencil commission would cost:
  4. Got my CAF Live Mystery Sketch in… Leo Sandler .. painted pretty happy with this
  5. You may be joking about this but I have heard of a collector that will ask for a fee to let someone know where a piece they may want is….
  6. I agree… I just pointed the blue lines out for all the bad feelings people have towards them , they seem to be garnering more love at auction than we have seen in the past.
  7. Apples to oranges example… title splash vs interior half splash and again the X-men on the page look like X-men… the star jammers are “X-men adjacent characters “ it’s a full team shot of them and there is some action. Yes the disparity in price doesn’t equate to disparity in quality but to different animals . I would much rather the title splash personally
  8. I thought it was an ok buy … yes half splash but rogue in a none rogue outfit - fury and kazar… I think people who want to spend up on lee Williams want X-men on there X-men pages… I actually thought the 248 page was the better buy but got dinged for green inks (I almost got it on a proxy bid lol)
  9. Couple things in this… inks didn’t jive with the time period and the signature is also different from the time… so I thought there was something going on with it… maybe inked much later or not by bws? I spoke to a few collectors that had the same concerns
  10. Made a whopper of a trade this week with a fellow boardie (and friend) smooth as silk … win win for both of us and went down with ease and a ton of respect on both sides. I can’t reiterate it enough explore trades where you can… that’s how you get what you really want!
  11. I understand what you are saying… but i look at first appearance like I would look at any other significant story point.., Byrne X-men for instance one of the most sought after runs yet dark Phoenix saga gets a premium over proteus for instance… or silvestri X-men inferno gets a premium over run of the mill… kree/skrull war more then avg avengers .. etc etc … we love the art but we love the stories too that’s how we started with the art so premiums get added to the most loved stories and it should be the same for the introduction of the most beloved characters.
  12. He is going to be in the movies and tv shows… don’t think this means anything
  13. Brian you are such a tease! Your timing is terrible or I would be all over these
  14. My one Card - not a marvel masterpiece but a jusko and I’m very happy to have it: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1788967
  15. Our angry friend tried to reunite it with its counter piece and failed… not sure if he is happy or sad from that happening
  16. I agree it is a much more complex equation… just reacting to an over simplification that is trying to be pushed forward with contradictory data
  17. I agree there is a correction on low end art happening as it was being pulled up by overzealous collectors who couldn’t source better pieces… but your CAL example holds no water as there were just as many “unsold” pieces at the height you speak of. Belaboring that point does reflect negatively on CAL as the metrics are similar to past events even without considering that there were no 6 figure pieces sold this time around.
  18. One key word you over looked in my statement., marvel. That cover that was 1100 was not only uninspiring but also off brand.
