  1. That is one of the beauties of this hobby .. different strokes for different folks. And thank you. I wasn’t familiar with Chris Giarusso work prior to this post. Interesting, if you see him draw an X-men cover let me know I may be interested in it.
  2. I was going on the conservative side to combat the over priced from original offer argument.
  3. I do not think you can call yourself the SKottie Young investor without buying it ...lol
  4. SO- if Skottie sketches and panel pages go for around 300 - I think the prices on these covers was right about on your calculator?
  5. Interesting point.. and I have actually had that conversation with a few friends more toward small run store variants but in the same vein . But variant covers are not really new (since the 90s) and a lot of the times the variant covers are done by better and more desirable artists. So in today's world how do you equate for that using your valuation math? I did not really want to make this a new art is overpriced thread, I actually think that was my point by pointing out the deviation on the price of these covers from past sales. But I think the whole way we look at values of art has to change as the OA world evolves. I mean you have commissions going for thousands of dollars at this point.
  6. For the most part I do agree with you that new art is overpriced a lot of the time... But a published cover is a published cover, and with what most of those are going for now, I do think these were a good deal relatively. me personally. I bought it because I have thought his art is fun and interesting for a while, and looked into a commission but they are 3/400 dollars. For a bit over double that I thought the published cover from a book I liked of characters I prefer was the better way to go. And realistically.. 1000 dollars is not getting you a whole lot in today's market of 80s/90s art.
  7. that is a great question... I do not know, I just threw his name into comicarttracker and it does not even look like a lot are available. 22 covers sold off his website today though.
  8. I liked that one too.. if it was there when I got to the site I may have grabbed it!
  9. They were moving fast.. I had it narrowed to three different ones and one disappeared, really caused me to make a move lol.
  10. Thanks for the color Felix... I am very happy to have been able to grab one personally. BTW I have been listening to your podcast on @AnkurJ recommendation.. only through about the first 8 but a great listen for me as a newer collector. Thank you for doing them.
  11. WOW- that must have been great! But seriously... yea I think right spot right time is important too.
  12. Hey- who really knows.. Skottie may be buying a house and needed an influx of cash or something else and this was a one time lowering...We will have to see where it goes from here I guess. But I am newer in the hobby and this is the first time I recall an artist breaking from a rep and then drastic pricing changes. So I thought it was interesting and something to discus.. If you guys who have been around the block a few more times then me have seen this before feel free to chime in.
  13. Hahah- just trying to build a modest collection over here lol. personally I think it shows what the reps cut/influence is in art sales considering these covers looked to be about 30-50% less then they were previously.
  14. I know buying Skottie art has been a topic around Here for the last few weeks so I thought it would be interesting to note that he dropped a bunch of Covers on his website this morning at rather attractive prices (a lot less then his rep was getting). And the majority of them sold within a couple Hours. I did grab the House of X 6 cover. is this a good thing?? Lol https://www.skottieyoung.com/orignal-art
  15. Brian- this was my first year participating and I think overall it was fantastic! Voting was a bit clunky - I wonder if it is possible to add numbering system as you go through the entries- maybe just a box where you can put a 1-5 as you go through so you can note your favorites then resort your finalists. I found myself struggling to go back and find what I wanted to vote for as some had very similar titles.
  16. SO much awesome art.. happy to have a few votes on almost all of my pieces with this kind of competition! Congrats to the winners and thank you for putting this together to see so many great pieces.
  17. SO when this gets here, I just cut a couple holes in the front and a piece from the back and it becomes a disney animation cell?
  18. Neal Adams was having a sale on his 8x10 profiles so I grabbed this Havok. Loved seeing how the costume was designed to be by the guy who original came up with it back in 1969. Real happy with it.
