  1. If it's witnessed, then (someone correct me if I'm wrong) you would lose the signature series designation by having it restored, and you are now looking at a qualified restored label. I would leave it as is.
  2. Did you get the lee signature witnessed or is it qualified?
  3. He is probably the worst artist I have seen, second maybe only to Sal Buscema.
  4. So many people mentioning "Romita" and not clarifying jr or sr. I would assume it goes without saying that it is Sr. but you never know. Please let me know when there is a thread for top ten least favorite artists.
  5. They are actively cheating it when they answer "$0" in the section on the state tax return where it asks about goods purchased out of state. I know people can't remember every purchase, but you know if you spent $1500 on a comic book at auction. Before Amazon started actively collecting taxes at purchase, you could easily go to your order history, sort by year, and find in under 30 seconds how much you spent during a tax year. If you sold 10k in goods on ebay, that is taxable income, regardless of whether Paypal sends you a 1099. I know it's one of those things where "everyone does (or doesn't in this case) do it," but that doesn't make it any less illegal. In your Philly example, you wouldn't pay tax in NY, because you were already taxed on that mug in Pennsylvania, since it is an Origin-Based Sales Tax State.
  6. If they are now collecting taxes in those states, then the tax laws have not changed. The only difference is they are now given the burden of collecting it since so many people lie on their state taxes when they have to pay their Use Tax. If you had an item shipped to NY you always had to pay tax on it, but most people in the past just cheat on their taxes and don't mention it.
  7. No, it absolutely doesn't. This is supported by eBay's policy. We assume because we hang out on a comic grading forum that everyone should know how to grade. It should not be a requirement that someone know how to properly grade to enjoy comic book collecting or purchase a comic. I collected comics for 15 years as a kid and bought about 1500 comics before I stopped. I considered myself a pretty serious collector. Before I got back into it last year and started hanging out here, I had no idea what truly affected grade. I could not have told you that " two color breaking creases" and spine ticks would prevent a book from being NM. This is obvious by all of the newbies (like me) that submit their books to CGC for the first time and are then shocked when their "perfect" books come back as 6s and 7s. If a book is advertised on eBay as a certain grade, it is not the fault of the purchaser for not knowing how to grade and understanding that it doesn't match that grade. It wasn't sold on the CGC forums. I again go back to my rolex example. If a rolex model is advertised as genuine yet has a leather strap rather than a steel band, a watch connoisseur might easily recognize that as a fake. That doesn't mean it's your fault if you buy it and don't realize that. The fault on this ASM auction is 100% on the seller if it was clearly stated as "mint" and he didn't say something like "great condition" or "looks like it is mint."
  8. I disagree. While you should be informed as a buyer, if an auction clearly lists an item as "mint" and it is not "mint," you are perfectly within your right to request a refund. As a seller, I would get around this by saying the book "appears mint" but that I am not an experienced grader and cannot be certain. It's not the buyer's responsibility to evaluate whether the description is accurate or not. If someone sells a rolex on ebay as genuine and it turns out to be an obvious replica, it's not the buyer's fault for not realizing it's a replica before purchasing. if you purchase a book described as mint and it is a 6.0, I would absolutely request a refund.
  9. Have you Googled the new address he wants you to use? A lot of times it will show up as a drop ship scam address.
  10. ASM 300. Came back a 6.5. I was really bummed so I upgraded by spending $850 to buy a 9.6 on ebay. It doesn't have the same emotional connection since it's not the one I grew up with, and I also feel like I wasted all that money, which I'm currently still paying 19% on my AMEX.
  11. File a suit over what? This will never happen. I think it is much more likely the books were graded correctly and your expectations were too high, especially since you stated one of the books came back as "reconditioned," which is not a term CGC uses. If the cover was detached, I think it is likely you didn't notice it or you didn't package the book correctly in shipping, especially since you made the exact same claim against CGC in January. You are the only one I know that has claimed CGC detached your cover, and claimed this multiple times. You also claimed in January CGC was off a full 2 grade points. I can tell you that grading is definitely subjective and some may disagree with CGC's grades, but I don't think I ever see a legitimate claim that their grading is off an entire 2 points. If you posted full high resolution pictures of the issue we could tell you more.
  12. Seller should pay 100% costs for reholder or you should return this book to seller for a refund.
  13. Stan's last signing likely wouldn't have been a convention, but a private signing. I know he was doing cgc signings for desert winds as recently as august.
  14. I knew that address looked familiar when I saw the subject. Pretty surprised to see this thread and realize it is two years old. I sold something on ebay in May and googled the address and saw that it was a known scam site and cancelled the sale. Can't believe ebay and paypal haven't blocked this address yet.
  15. He mentioned he's reholdering it to have those pieces of lint removed from the inner well so the book doesn't appear to have spine ticks and so he doesn't have a potential buyer question whether it is actually a 9.8. I personally think he should leave it as is, rather than risking what I'm assuming is a $3000 book coming back regraded as a 9.6.
  16. I could have sworn when you reholdered they evaluate it to make sure the grade should remain the same. Are you guys saying they always keep the grade on a reholder? What if the book gets significant SCS during shipment? CGC won't say "this isn't a 9.8 any more, let's drop to a 9.6?"
  17. Cross posting from another forum. Only one I'm fairly sure it isn't is the cover artist Tony Daniel. Below is who worked on the book: Writer James Bonny Pencil Wilson Tortosa Ink Jonathan Sibal Colors Tyson Wengler Letters Robin Spehar, Dennis Heisler, and Mark Roslan Variant Cover - Tony Daniel
  18. This is pretty generic, but I'm going to say his portrayal of women as a whole in his ASM run from 1-25. For a guy who was so ahead of his time in terms of bigotry and diversity, he really did not understand women well and his dialogue in those early Spider-Man issues is terrible.
  19. Stan Lee didn't write "The Kid Who Collects Spiderman." That was Roger Stern.
  20. Looks like Desert WInds is going to have a lot of books to return unsigned.
  21. That, and the ever-classy Stan Lee RIP bumper stickers.
