  1. Probably someone else saw the photo and figured the same way you did and pushed the person. On the other hand, the book could have been missing the rest of the cover. I always wonder when I see books smushed every which way like that. Sorry about the tire.
  2. Ya think? That was just what I said to him. I think he just put naked books into boxes before. Actually, it was not even in an envelope, he wrapped 2 torn pieces of cardboard in newsprint and sent it that way. 2 pieces of scotch tape, one on each end (not even all 4) and the boards he used were modern, book was GA and the bag was huge. When my husband handed it to me (it was ripped to shreds and the book was damaged) he made a comment about the packing (and he packs nothing;) To the seller's credit, he refunded me immediately when I sent him the pictures and said to just send the book back, so I won't out him. Hopefully he learned a little about packing.
  3. I just finished Orphan X and Nowhere Man by Gregg Hurwitz. If you like Baldacci and Vince Flynn, you'll like these, although I enjoyed the first book more than the 2nd, but they were both books you could hardly put down. Hurwitz also happens to be a comic book writer, I think he mostly writes Batman, but there are other series he worked on as well.
  4. Well, in the learn something every day vein, I have an eBay seller telling me that it's much SAFER to mail a book in an envelope. It doesn't move around as much. Boxes are very bad...He says he uses cardboard on both sides though;). Since he also says in his ad "expedited shipping" and it didn't get to the PO for at least 4 days after I paid and now it seems he made a mistake and sent it media mail (which he insists his post office personal rep prefers;) I won't know how this "better way" works until I get the book...maybe in another 10 days. Like I said, learn something EVERY day.
  5. So we don't need our resident exterminator (Oakman;) to get rid of them;) ?whew...I hate spiders;)
  6. Sounds like a spy novel...
  7. I love the 18, but this one is fainting material...WOW.
  8. So, by my rough count, around 130 DIFFERENT people have posted in this thread. Not quite dead yet;) Liz, keep figuring out good topics;)
  9. Unless you search the planet for refrigerator boxes that you cut down yourself and THEN do the newspaper thingy...you don't quite get up to the level of @DR.X but you sound like a good close 2nd;)
  10. The trick is to never tape the comic bag that is directly protecting the comics. You put the comics in their bags and then put the one book, or more (however many you have) in ANOTHER bag. THEN you can tape. I use magazine bags, or treasury bags, but even a supermarket bag will do. Drives me crazy when I have to peel tape off a comic book bag. It's also very bad for my manicure;);)
  11. Or maybe you are not overly sensitive, it's a good thing;) FWIW (and I learned that here;) I miss most of the jabs, subtle or otherwise;) or maybe I tune them out, I'm not sure. It's motherhood 101;)
  12. I was given specific instructions by an eBay friend when I came here. Don't HUG anyone and don't try to sell anything for at least a year. Oh and don't get upset if people are mean. I had no problems;) took me years before I felt safe doing this (((Joey;);)
  13. I think you need to know someone a little better before you use terms like passive aggressive, Steve. If I didn't come right out and say that I thought you were being mean about the changes and nasty last year, it was because I was trying to be polite. Sorry if you took that the wrong way. I guess I should have just said you were being awfully aggressive for someone who was so new to the community. THAT was what kept convincing me that you were not really new. Tim was right about thinking SOME new people are shills, I thought (and I was not alone) that you were either a long time lurker, or you appeared to have been here before, then you posted with 2 voices, you and your wife? That is not usual. I'm not sure what kind of bus I threw you under, but did I think there was something wrong absolutely. I doubt very much I hid those thoughts, if I did, I apologize. Then there were your two dramatic exits. I'm usually ok with the first dramatic exit. By the 2nd one, I try to just avoid the person, because I don't think it's going to stop. As far as seeing your contributions, they sound wonderful, but I don't really read the variant threads, nor the modern threads, I don't collect those things and my time is limited, so I just skim the stuff that I'm more interested in. NOT THAT GA is better, I might like it better, but you don't have to. As far as new people go, I honestly try to be nice to them. I don't think too many other people will accuse me of not being nice to a new person, UNLESS, I think that person is a shill, then I'm really cautious. It has nothing to do with not "liking" you. I'd have to know you to "like" or "dislike" you. I didn't like the constant kvetching about every tiny thing that was going wrong in the beginning of last year. Did I think things were going wrong, ABSOLUTELY, but my goal was to preserve this place, because I've loved this forum and the people here (with very few exceptions) for years. I was afraid that with everyone complaining, it would drive more people away. What I tried to do instead was to help some friends who were not posting, learn the new boards, as well as I could. You actually had a few good ideas regarding software that I found very helpful, and I vaguely remember saying that, if I didn't, I apologize for that, but it was probably because I was completely lost in space myself at the time and really struggling to make sense of it all. Had nothing to do with liking or not liking you. Now can we be done with this, please? I know you've had at least one other thread where you mentioned me. It did not seem like it was positive. I didn't go after you in that thread, nor was I here. I really absolutely do not get what is so wonderful about "likes" that you need more than 50, EXCEPT, it's easier to hit a heart than to type +1. If it helps to understand, I don't do facebook. It just was not something I wanted to spend time doing, and I don't like posting personal stuff in an open space. If you have anything else to share about me, feel free to pm me. Thank you. Happy Valentine's Day.
  14. Nice, I won the 4.5 on Clink...had I seen this one, I would have waited;)
  15. Maybe you should stop worrying about what *I* like. I have zero idea whether you have ever liked one of my posts;) and I've never seen you post a comic (that I can remember).
  16. I don't really care either way, but I'm just curious as to why you would want more than 50 likes a day? I'm usually a pretty positive person, but unless I sat here all day, I'd have a hard time finding that many things I "liked". BTW, if you are going to quote me with a picture that I won't understand, please add a translation...;) I've found some threads to read when looking at the leaderboard. There is a list of recent threads with the most "likes" otherwise I'd agree with you. I don't really see the point. We did perfectly fine when all you could do was +1 to indicate that you agreed with something.
  17. One of my new toys has been the online users list. If I sort it, I can see about how many people are signed on with their IDs. 30 people to a page, we have been averaging between 4 and 6 pages since the software change, but tons of "guests" are also online. Some of those are "bots" I'm sure, but some seem to be viewing things that people would look at. I check once or twice a week when I remember to look, sometimes more often. It's been pretty consistent this whole year. However, this has not been the only time I've seen more than 1/2 of the # of people who are signed in posting in this kind of thread. If I had more time I'd check the names against the lists, but I'm not that curious;)
  18. Maybe Liz should just post more threads, he gets a lot of people to show up;)
  19. I just did a rough count and about 79 people posted in this thread. That's over a 24 hour period. Some of the posters, I rarely see post anymore, which means maybe, that some people lurk and don't sign in. More and more people seem to be getting used to the new software (after a YEAR;) but there are changes. Lots of people just selling. I think that comic prices have definitely priced out a few people. Some of the younger posters have kids now, or older kids and that's a change, children take up lots of spare time. But I also see a lot of the same complaints, same kvetching by people with the same issues, and the same upbeat people who don't let the small stuff bother them. Not that much difference;)
  20. LOL...maybe for someone who is not married, or is not fond of the person they are married to;) that's not the case for me, there is no book I'd trade my husband for. But don't ask me that the next time he forgets (or choses to ignore ;) what I asked him to do 2 minutes before;)
  21. Beautiful books, I'd better sign off before I risk a divorce;)
  22. Chris bought some books from my last sales thread. He was super polite, a very nice guy! He paid more quickly than was agreed upon and communication was top notch. Thanks so much, Chris, it's a pleasure to work with you!
  23. I have a 3.5 with a small piece out of the front. I was willing to upgrade to one with a piece off the back;) But I was outbid, I actually lowered what I was going to bid at the end because 2 people withdrew their bids early, I guess they were testing mine because I got notes that I was high bidder again. I don't think it was the seller, but that stuff turns me off, so I didn't want to bid what I had planned. Both of them sniped at the end, one of them won. I was wondering if it was a boarder.
