  1. SLAM BRADLY (sic) I never noticed that before. Jack
  2. See? I knew I couldn't have gotten them all. REVISED LIST ... Fox and the Crow... Stanley and His Monster? -- The Fox and the Crow title change, but it's debatable whether Stanley's monster is funny or an animal. Jack I was going to mention Stanley & His Monster but they didn't come along until the late 60's and I do not consider Funny Animal really. I categorize that under Funny Characters, Teens, Satire, etc. Not Funny Animal. No debate to me. Most of the characters are regular cartoon folks not animals. Now if we're going to include all Funny Animals into the Bronze age..Then don't forget about the 7 issue Three Mouseketeers series 2. And you mayt as well include all 13 Rudolphs. Yeah, I agree about Stanley -- just wasn't sure how completist the list is supposed to be. I also agree about Rudolph. Is there a date range? Golden to Silver Age only? If not, there are some later Funny Animals digests and Captain Carrot. Jack

  4. Here's a fun stack! All, plus a few coverless copies, bought from Szelim here on the boards. If you were fast, you saw them go by in the sales forum. (Great seller!) From the Marjorie Hess collection, obviously. Raggedy Ann and Andy 6 Nov-46 Fantastic Halloween cover! Raggedy Ann and Andy 7 Dec-46 Raggedy Ann and Andy 10 Mar-47 I like this one a lot -- looks like Walt Kelly might have drawn the mouse. Raggedy Ann and Andy 14 Jul-47 This one is a beauty! Anyone have a clue who drew it? Raggedy Ann and Andy 15 Aug-47 Raggedy Ann and Andy 16 Sep-47 Raggedy Ann and Andy 17 Oct-47 Lots of good stuff inside. They all include a Walt Kelly feature and a Billy & Bonny Bee story. Jack
  5. Tony Blum = Alex Anthony Blum = better known as Alex Blum in Classics Illustrated, right? Toni Blum = Audrey Blum Bossert = Alex's daughter. She was a writer, not an artist, though. They showed up in the roman à clef Eisner story, The Dreamer, that I read recently. Jack
  6. Wow, wow and wow! Even cool enough to forgive the lack of any funny animals on Fun Comics 9. Jack
  7. Glad to hear I am not the only one to think so. I've never seen one but then again I've never looked for one. This is the last thing I would want to hear ... knowing my compulsiveness, it's going to eat at me to get one done We'll expect a spreadsheet by next Saturday. That's a beauty! GCD says Don Gunn, not someone I know much about. Did he work with Walt Kelly? If not, maybe he was told to "draw them like Kelly." Jack
  8. Fantastic! Two tough FC ducks down! Jack
  9. At first glance, I thought the young lady was being threatened by an overly aggressive vacuum cleaner salesman. Nice pair! Jack
  10. A greggy book? But not high enough grade. Unusual purchase for me -- Li'l Kids 7, Aug-72. Scarce? Sorry about the sticker -- seller's scan. Jack
  11. I'm not sure where to put this one. Jump start the Short Bus? Tom Mix Western 21, Sep-49, Fawcett, Norman Saunders painted cover, 52 pages Just a reader copy, but check out the wild jack-o-lantern splash page! Jack
  12. What a great animation-style lion! I wonder if design of the lion in Astro City was partly inspired by this cover. And free ice cream to boot. The notorious space boob cover! Great copy. Jack
  13. I just got it! Whaddya think I am, a flipper?! I forgot to post this shiny black-covered gem from shiverbones. Funny Folks 20, July 1949. Jack
  14. Ira Schnapp designed some logos for DC -- minor ones like Action Comics, Superman (after Shuster), Adventure Comics, Justice League of America, Green Lantern... Jack Lots of interesting facts about Ira Schnapp and his career DC. link Thanks for the link. That's exactly where I learned about Schnapp. Letterers aren't exactly the most celebrated members of the creative team. Jack
  15. Maybe Mark Evanier or Tom Orzechowski knows -- I'll ask (eventually). Jack
  16. Kinda familiar. (Yes, a classic image and maybe not a swipe at all.) Which came first?
  17. Ira Schnapp designed some logos for DC -- minor ones like Action Comics, Superman (after Shuster), Adventure Comics, Justice League of America, Green Lantern... Jack
  18. Do you know who designed it? (Not Ira Schnapp) Jack
  19. Apparently he was one of those poor university scientists who turned to crime to increase his income.... Lord, how I've tried. Thanks for the liquid He (from a test tube) panel. Jack
  20. They're kinda Funny (you asked for it). I really like this one. Some great funny animal artwork but some of the credits at GCD are unfamiliar names (to me). I guess my favorite is McSnurtle the Turtle/ The Terrific Whatzit by Martin Naydel -- Golden Age Flash parody. Ron Santi gets the credit for Three Mouseketeers, J Rufus Lion (Arsenic the Giraffe!), Zooville and Bulldog Drumhead stories. Very nicely detailed. There's a col 1-page PSA, Doiby Dickles Goes On a Case: Paper Salvage by Irwin Hasen. Jack
  21. Looks like a Shiverbones cover! (thumbs u Sure does! I think I asked him about it months ago when I actually won it -- this was an accumulated ebay pile shipped together. Jack
  22. Posted on the Funny Animals thread in Gold, but really early 10¢ Silver age books. Peter Panda 24 Jul-57. Great cover with classic DC green background. Three Mouseketeers 26 Dec-60. Rough but probably scarce. Last issue, all Rube Grossman artwork? Check out the IND bullet instead of the DC/Superman circle. TV Screen Cartoons 136 Oct-60. Scarce Fox & Crow book toward the end of the Real/TV Screen series. Jack
  23. Do I know how to shut down a thread or what? Let's try again. Real Screen Comics 7 Sep-45. Fox and Crow. Not Gem Mint, but I bet it's pretty scarce. Peter Panda 24 Jul-57. Maybe a tad later than Golden Age, but a great cover with classic DC green background. Did I already post this one? Maybe, but I have it in hand now. Fawcett's Funny Animals 35 Feb-46. Nice copy -- Captain Marvel Bunny, some great funny animal artwork including a classic Dreamland story. Three Mouseketeers 26 Dec-60. Rough but probably scarce. Last issue of a Golden to Atomic Age series, all Rube Grossman artwork? Check out the IND bullet instead of the DC/Superman circle. TV Screen Cartoons 136 Oct-60. Again, not exactly Golden Age, but scarce Fox & Crow book toward the end of the Real/TV Screen series. Jack
