  1. That's the one! Your copy? Is it a "month book"? I give the edge to #4 over #1 because it's so ridiculous. The tiger story looks like it belongs in #7. Apparently Whitney liked to draw leaping tigers. Jack Ahhh, that fantastic "blast the gonads" # 9 OP. Still, the Whitney story is neat. # 1 is my fav of the batch too (thumbs u
  2. Cool books. I especially like the #4 Thanks, Bill (and Matt earlier). Offbeat series. #4 is my favorite too. Now that I missed out on #9 I'll probably end up hunting for it and paying more than the copy that got away %^&@! Jack
  3. Nobody loves Gold Key, but if there's such a thing as Gold Key keys, pre-costume Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom, should qualify. Two nice copies picked up on ebay (seller's scans) that were slight upgrades or equal to the copy I already had but at average-down prices. Number 1 (c'mon, it's gotta be a key) Number 2, one of my favorite Silver Age covers Jack
  4. Posting a pulp? Has the world turned upside-down? I couldn't resist Modern Mechanix and Inventions from Jul-33 for less than the cost of a tall Gingerbread Latté. Wild Norm Saunders cover, great illustrations of unlikely inventions inside, World War (no need to mention which one) code secrets. Fun stuff. Jack
  5. I sure can't concentrate today. Uploading some recent wins (seller's scans) will help, right? Here's an unusual quartet of Golden (or Atomic) age ACGs. Operation: Peril 1, 3, 4 and 7, a title that you (or maybe I) don't see very often. Classic Ogden Whitney covers. Unusual layout on #1 with all the white space showing off a killer dust shadow. Some violent Red Chinese Commie-bashing on #3. Mow 'im down! Possible Short Bus fodder rescued by the bizarre scene on #4. An astronaut and his hot red-headed babe attacked by aliens. Nothing unusual there except that the aliens look like they're visiting from a Sprang Batman cover, the woman is shooting one of them at close range with a good ol' pistol, and her man is delivering another one an all-American punch in the schnozz. That'll teach 'em! My favorite cover of the run. #7 is relatively mundane with just a pair of Cro-Magnon types manhandling the hot redhead from #4 and a saber-toothed tiger sailing overhead. I regret missing out on #9 with some wild space lizards on a black background, but you can't win them all (well, some of you can but I can't). Jack
  6. The Metamorpho and Sapphire Stagg prototype strikes again! Very nice! Jack
  7. Cool cover, esp. for your theme. A sneaky-looking, cigarette-smoking green duck probably wouldn't pass muster today. Jerry Bails' Who's Who says BRADBURY, JACK BETTER PUBLICATIONS LUCKY DUCK (pen/ink/) 1952 > 52 SPECTOR, IRV BETTER PUBLICATIONS LUCKY DUCK (pen/ink/) c1947-c49 > 47 48 49 Yours is 1953, so Bradbury? Anyone know his style? Jack
  8. Another one! Kind of a dorky cover for a pre-code horror book. Atlas Tales says probably Burgos and Brodsky, but with Sales, Check, etc., on the inside, it can't be bad. Jack
  9. very, very high on my '09 want list [not yours, shiver, just a nice one]. Pshwew! Don't turn your back on him, yulebones! (for lots of good reasons) Jack
  10. Send them to the cornfield, Anthony! Jack Life's not just good, it's wonderful!
  11. Omigosh! That's a beauty that I've never seen. One of Kelly's best duck covers. Jack
  12. Now THAT's a smileyface I don't elicit very often! Both splurges for me but surprisingly moderate % of guide. A Matt Fox story too -- WOW. Not indexed at GCD. Thanks, Jack
  13. Not a thread I can post in very often. MYSTERY TALES #12 with a Joe Maneely Ghost cover! MYSTERY TALES #16 with a (probably) Brodsky cover. Not very scary, but apparently the contents make up for it. The seller describes a Myron Fass story where a skinny guy pushes his bloated wife over the railing of a cruise ship and she is devoured by talking alligators. Seller's scans. I can't wait to get these in hand! Jack
  14. Never a shortage of Short Bus books here. Two recent wins (seller scans, not in my hands yet). Mister District Attorney 54. That's one big fly! United Comics 18, although the seller mentioned that Fritzi strips down to her skivvies on page 1. Be sure to check the fairly new Silver Age Short Bus thread for a fix. I posted there recently, but there isn't much traffic. Jack
  15. No. I didn't even think of it ... plus I don't have the editing power of you, oh estimed editor. Go for them! (thumbs u OK, the first round is entered. Send more! DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THIS!!! Avon #456 Jack
  16. No. I didn't even think of it ... plus I don't have the editing power of you, oh estimed editor. Go for them! (thumbs u OK, the first round is entered. Send more! Thanks, Jack
  17. No. I didn't even think of it ... plus I don't have the editing power of you, oh estimed editor. Go for them! (thumbs u Will do -- I didn't want to duplicate efforts. Thanks, Jack
  18. Dodo & Frog & Frank ... :cloud9: Very nice! Jack
  19. They really liked this cover art. Don't you? Scrooge, are you submitting these paperback cover sources to GCD? Jack
  20. Ken Hultgren, right? I don't think it's Jack Bradbury. The ACG/Creston/Standard funny animal books (Giggle Comics and Ha Ha Comics) have some great art and stories! I have one GIGGLE and a handful of HA HAs and HAPPYs but no COO COOs (how long have I pined to write that sentence?) , and they consistently over-deliver, especially based on the price. 1945-53 in presentable good to fine condition and only one cost over $5. Scrooge featured Ha Ha in his (sadly moribund) Month in the Life series. Ha Ha Comics (bottom post if you use default page numbering) Goofy Comics also has some information about the Sangor Shop funny animal artists. Coo Coo Comics Scrooge, did you feature Giggle out of order? Do you (or yulebones) think that many or most of the "?" art credits on those pages are Hultgren? Jack
  21. And I thought I was a geek and you were right. Hello GEEK! "Hi, Fuelman" responds the board Peanut Gallery Jack sure are a lot of 'em
  22. And I thought I was a geek So did we! :baiting: Jack PS -- Billy is faster on the draw tonight.
  23. Yes linky Thanks! I don't think I've ever seen that thread active. I just reposted there. Jack
