  1. Where's Greggy the romance expert? I figured that he might nail my last question in record time. Jack Yes Yes you would have nailed the question about "advice columnists", or yes there were only 7 SA DC romance titles, or both? Jack Both. Secret Hearts became Love Stories during the 20 cent era. Did they keep Ann Martin on the staff? Jack
  2. I like it just fine, but don't you think it's a teensy bit text-heavy? She probably brought him a beer in her purse. Jack Ok, here's one not so text heavy that's kinda cool. Nice -- mighty crowded sky to be shootin' like that! You'd better give it back before they notice it's missing. Jack

  6. Falling in Love - Carol Andrews Girls' Love Stories - Barbara Miles Young Love - Jane Ford Girls Romances - Julia Roberts Young Romance - Laura Penn Heart Throbs - Lynn Farrell WHEE! Secret Hearts -- Ann Martin (Falling in Love is the one I forgot at first. Is seven all of them?) Jack
  7. I really like that one too. GCD agrees with your credits. It looks way better than Kane's 80s style to me. More like the mutant love-child of a DC superhero cover and a Fiction House Planet Comics cover. Jack
  8. ...and you call yourself a comic detective. Looks like there were two sets of 3 books sold in packs in variety stores, based on reading between the lines at GCD. Whee's not in Gerber, and I bet the others aren't either. Do you have them all? (Some covers at GCD need replacing.) Jack
  9. Jeez! Tough one. Whee Comics (Modern Store Publishing, 1955) ...and furthermore, is that Ken Hultgren artwork? Reprints from ACG titles, possibly Ha Ha Comics? Jack
  10. Jeez! Tough one. Whee Comics (Modern Store Publishing, 1955) Jack I actually encountered one of the others (Funny Comics) with the "unusual feature" you mentioned as I was hunting around and figured that was a likely lead. If I were on my toes, I would have followed the publisher and solved the puzzle last night. Jack
  11. A small glimpse of the title. Jeez! Tough one. Whee Comics (Modern Store Publishing, 1955) Jack
  12. Also accepting Dr. Tzin-Tzin, who was contracted by the League of Assassins in Detective #408. This should be way easier than my last one: Each of DC's romance books had an resident advice columnist during the Silver Age. Name six DC romance titles and their columnists. (Bonus: Were there only six? That's all I could think of.) Jack PS: I remembered another. There are at least seven to choose from.
  13. Yes, it is a circuit diagram. Isn't that a capital Gamma though? Yes, it is. I shouldn't have typed without looking back at the page. Jack
  14. Here's an easy one-- in several issues prior to the introduction of Ras al Ghul, Batman battled a number of agents from his organization. Name at least 2 of them. (I'm not counting the Sensei from the Deadman strip, only later ret-conned to be part of Ras' organization). Ebeneezer Darrk and Tejja Jack
  15. Yes, I'm afraid no one's going to argue that Audrey's not Short Bus material. Thanks for the page. Very odd structure fragment! Story inspired partly by Donald Duck, Mad Chemist? What's that thing after the lambda? Part of a circuit diagram? Jack
  16. based on the cheeziest clue ever! If someone had looked at my copy on the Silver Age war thread, they could have seen most of the answer where the cover is conveniently missing. Jack
  17. I didn't expect this one to be so hard! It sounds like he's got a tractor in his moccasin. Jack
  18. shockingly mid grade key book for you there jack! PS - I LOVE pre'65 Aquaman.... Thanks! I bet you even like Quisp! "shockingly mid grade" May I adopt that as my mantra? Jack
  19. Glad to see an old-timer (sorry Bill) is also stumped despite his vast comic knowledge. I'm not giving up but I've already gone down the Easter / Christmas and other stories with Mother Goose path and it's none of those. We should have given each other high fives as we crossed paths! Gotta stop thinking and start sleeping. Hopefully the experts will crack the case by morning. Jack
  20. You call that low grade??? My low grade could beat your low grade with one chip taped behind its back! That's a sharp-looking pre-hero Marvel to me! Jack
  21. As far as I know, he didn't appear until after Sgt. Rock. Someone correct me if there's a pre-Rock appearance. Jack
  22. Flash Gordon Tailspin Tommy Dan Dunn (maybe with an asterisk) Before Sergeant Rock appeared on the scene, Easy Company included a Native American soldier. What was his name? Jack
