  1. Congratulations, Jack. (thumbs u OH, YEAAHH! Which just happens to be the cry of Kool-Aid Man! When Kool-Aid Man traveled back in time, in what city and year did he land? Jack
  2. Here's another visual clue to the mystery cover. Boy Comics 4 Jack
  3. Wow, nice books! Apparently "hero falling backwards to the lower right" is your collecting theme this week. Fearless Flint is Harry Peter again, right? I thought that he was Man O'Metal at first glance. I wonder how the writer decided on a flint character. Great pages you posted, with sparks flying off Fearless Flint! Jack
  4. A lot of people find themselves looking that way. Unusual euphemism though, "my Vampirella's". Jack
  5. Persistence pays off. I stopped hunting at 183. JPS
  6. Ditto! Several other Archie series that were published as Giants too, but I'm striking out on all of them. Plenty of clues. Archie experts are few and far between. Jack
  7. James Foster That was fast. Superboy 71 Jack
  8. I didn't need a search engine for that one. Who was the principal that expelled Clark Kent from Smallville High School? (I hope there's only one answer.) Jack Sorry all. I just saw the our/your typo. (fixed above) I gots nothing to do with that groovy site. Now I understand your comment. I think the explanations that I wrote for the Doom Patrol pages were never posted, so there's nothing for the search engine to find. One of the many things that I'm behind on (as I sit answering comic book trivia questions). Jack
  9. Mister 103/4 Who is Mister 103/4? Element-based Doom Patrol villain. Pretty dumb to take a supervillain name that's guaranteed to go out of date, isn't it? "Real" name Jon Dubrovny (sometimes John, I think). Funny trivia: One of the proposed names for Element 104 (long after Mr. 104's time) was Dubnium (Db) after the Dubna Research Center. Surprisingly close! Here are a couple of covers: Find some pages here: Mr. 103 Copper pages Don't get me started on element characters! Jack
  10. One for me! Mister 103/4 Jack Yeah, I didn't find him on our site (must not be using the search engine properly), and thought I could slip this question past you. No such luck. Take it away selegue. I didn't need a search engine for that one. Who was the principal that expelled Clark Kent from Smallville High School? (I hope there's only one answer.) Jack
  11. Same here w/ Kirby. I scrounged around early 70s DC Kirby and such. Should have thought of Challengers! Jack
  12. Short Bus fans might enjoy these two pages and some info that I recently posted in the general quiz thread. A Thom McAn ad from Captain Midnight 44 inside cover. Iceman prototype, almost 20 years predating X-Men! I get a laugh out of the little elf named H too. A page from Richard Richard, Private , a comic detective strip in several Fawcett titles. Apparently a one-man operation by McKay. Here's a particularly silly page from Captain Midnight 44. Funny how Richard and the bad guy look sort of like Beavis and/or Butthead (I can never remember which one's which) and the dog looks suspiciously like Big Boy's dog, Nugget! Jack
  13. Fastest answer yet! Glad I checked before logging out for the night. I feared that it was too easy, but they can't all be masterpieces. I thought that people would get a kick out of this Iceman prototype, almost 20 years predating X-Men! Jack
  14. WOO-HOO! Rip Van Winkle and the Headless Horseman, in case the pumpkin didn't clue everyone in. Not enough time to write a great question. Let's try a fair-to-middlin' one. Thom McAn used his super-powered shoes to foil all sorts of criminals and nefarious schemes in the comic books. What were those shoes called? Jack
  15. This horse appeared on the cover, too. ...as did this pumpkin. D'oh! I looked right at it earlier. Classic Comics 12 Jack
  16. How about a hint who that dog is in the bottom right corner? He doesn't look familiar to me. Alright, it's a bit sneaky, since he is technically a prototype (although a key issue cover appearance to fans of the series), take a look at that collar... he sure ain't no poor kids mutt. And his name and coat has since changed. Are you looking for title/issue or just the dogs' names? Jack PS Never mind! I found the answer to my question in the instructions and meanwhile BZ beat me to the punch. I had found Buck! Jack
  17. Bob Montana. I read it (somewhere) from the other direction. Jack No, I don't recall Montana being mentioned. It may be true, but that's not the name I'm looking for. I keep coming up the the wrong right answer tonight! Montana wikipedia "During World War II, Montana spent four years in the Army Signal Corps, drawing coded maps and working on training films with William Saroyan and cartoonists Sam Cobean and Charles Addams. He was stationed at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, where, in 1944, he met a 19-year-old Army secretary, Peggy Wherett, from Asbury Park, New Jersey. Married in 1946, they moved to Manhattan, where Montana was soon drawing the daily and Sunday Archie comic strips for 700 newspapers." Jack
  18. Bob Montana. I read it (somewhere) from the other direction. Jack
  19. All were made into movies starring Buster Crabbe? I knew some one would know this. Yes, good ol' Buster Crabbe acted in serials featuring each of the above characters. The Frazetta guess, uncannily, was also pretty good but I don't recall any Frazetta Flash Gordon or does it exist? BZ, it's your turn now. Frazetta was going to be my answer too, but testinadical beat me to it. Lambiek (and other sources): "When he left M.E., Frazetta ghosted on Dan Barry's 'Flash Gordon' newspaper strip.." Jack
  20. Oooh! "The wrong silicon mixture" -- I can see why you couldn't resist it. (Do you have a reader copy? Any good element stuff in the story?) Nice catch for about the cost of the slab job. Jack
  21. Wonderful book with a story that raises its "value" to you way beyond consideration of price. I've never read Lovecraft and always wonder when I see the name. How is Cthulhu pronounced? Jack rat-CHEW! Gesundheit.
  22. Ah Choo and Flub Dub "Flub Dub the talking mutt", as he's called in the opening caption! *Goofy warning in case Scrooge is reading!* A comic detective strip in several Fawcett titles. Jack
  23. Tiger Girl's companions, a tiger and gorilla (guessing on the second). Jack That's close enough to be the They're both cats. Take it away selegue (from Fight Comics 53) Thanks -- even though I barely scored! Who were the two assistants of Richard Richard, Private ? Jack
