  2. Go to a store that has comics. Pick out some that look appealing and/or feature characters that you like. Take them home and read them. Unless you're looking to dive right in to the plastic crack habit. if that's the case, ignore what I wrote above.
  3. I've seen that sort of thing on new comics going back to the 90s when they started using the slicker paper stock
  4. Avoid Marvel and DC and go for independents instead. I'm not saying that everything being produced by Marvel and DC is *spoon* but there is a lot of quality stuff being produced right now by other companies. Sure, you won't get Spidey, or Batman, etc but you'll get some really good reads. If you're looking for comics like the ones you mention that you grew up with, you will be disappointed with most of what the big two are putting out these days. If you want and like the types of stories and art that they are putting out in 2019, then you might find some stuff you will enjoy.
  5. Good to see you guys popping your cherries
  6. Btw, 'rare' is a far more overused and abused word than grail is. I love it when I look on ebay and some idgit who clearly doesn't know their azz from their elbow lists a commonly found comic, describes it as rare (with gratuitous exclamation points) and puts a price on it that's at least 10-20 times what it's worth.
  7. This is my grail post, I've been searching for years- three sets of three s in one post. The search is over! I would have quoted Blowie's post if I didn't already have a really nice quoted one.
  8. Actually, this type of story was not uncommon years ago regarding mycomicshop. There was a time, based on experience, that I wouldn't order anything high grade from them. There are threads buried in the bowels of this message board that talk about their hit or miss, or just plain poor grading. HOWEVER, to their credit, they turned it around and are now much better. Better grading, better packaging and better customer service. Conan is always very responsive to questions and concerns posted here.
  9. Nope. He was made into a Turducken this past Thanksgiving
  10. True, but Bob is a little...extra. You're welcome to come sit with him for a while and experience the magic in person! I had a cat like that once. I swear it's brain wasn't wired correctly.
  11. Just cats being cats. They can go from a restive state to full on psycho in about 2 seconds.
  12. Hopefully finishing up my Richie Rich reader runs and other Bronze Marvel, DC, and Gold Key reader runs.
  13. The guy who ran the contest is named Tim. The guy who claimed my first donated book is named Tim. The guy who claimed my second donated book is named Tim.
  14. Patrick is a marketing genius. Much better than......
  15. Best four days of the year on the boards. Thanks to DrX for putting up with us knuckleheads.
