For those like me who weren't really impressed with Luc Besson's more well known offerings (i.e. Leon the Professional and Fifth Element) I highly recommend you see Nikita for it's perfect balancing act of emotion and well choreographed/slick action style (which may bring to mind later films such as Equilibrium, Underworld, John Wick, etc.). Heck, Besson has even tried to replicate this career starter for him twice.

(Final edit I swear) Kino Lorber also has an excellent Easter sale going on, ends April 22nd :gossip:https://kinolorber.com/collection/march-madness-sale-2024

Since you folks missed this physical collecting thread since 2017. Figured that physical media Disney news would strike a cord.

Sorry, I nearly had a brain aneurysm at the thought of Once Upon a Time in America, Sink the Bismarck, or Planet of the Apes having the slightest possibility of coming back into print. Christ almighty I really do hope this actually means the possibility of catalogue pulls and/or Disney would contemplate Kino or Criterion plundering the vault. (p.s. I know this is wildly over optimistic but I'm still riding from the high of Once Upon a Time in the West's 4K being announced today. :gossip:)

  3. Dark Passage is definitely my favorite of the Bogey and Bacall flicks. The tensions are definitely rife especially when he is hiding out in her apartment. Of course the iconic "escape" intro is also unmatched.

For his solo endeavors I definitely loved In A Lonely Place and the African Queen. One thing I've always noticed is that Bogart always had female co-stars that matched his acting style and I've never quite seen that again (at least in succession), with Gloria Grahame matching him with wit and Katherine Hepburn matching him in independence in each of those films.

As a co-star I could probably say the Roaring Twenties as being his best. Him and Cagney really let the scenes simmer with their characters' tension.

It is getting real hard to get physical disc these days compared to before.in Québec best buy is stoping, wallmart sint that great and most other shows are closing.

Am trying to buy from websit for first time this week.i know of criterion of course,i dont like vinegar syndrome much, arrow and second sights are solid!

But what of others i missed or buy from online stores, ebay is not that good got ripped off à few times with bootleg, and amazon im not sure.

Please share your expérience since collecting blu ray are becoming à niche thing!

Not only is it tough to get discs at brick and mortar but also trying to sell them is impossible too unless you're selling the aforementioned boutiques or collector's editions of popular movies. I've recently started to see DVDs joining VHS tapes in free/dollar bins as well which is rather saddening. To sort of pile on to what Axelrod was saying about discs becoming collectable it is my hope they'll become like vinyl where they stay niche but have their own collector culture and come in the really nice packaging that Shout and Arrow have been giving their limited editions. Paramount, Universal, Sony, and MGM (albeit solely through boutiques for MGM/UA) have done a commendable job keeping their catalogue titles flowing.

Talking to friends and such i notice that i have become à black sheep cause im not a streaming guy(whatever that is).i still buy my blu ray and 4k. Have i become i dinosaur?

Not at all. I'm 24 and I've been collecting physical media for six years with my collection spanning from the 1930s (The Sign of the Cross, 1932) to the 2020s (Spider-Man: No Way Home, 2022). I hope that even if the corporations stop releasing their own discs in house somehow the boutique labels will continue to prosper.

It's also a great way of future proofing your collection, just if you're looking to acquire 20th Century Fox titles be sure to do it now before prices really skyrocket! Also Barnes and Noble is currently having a 50% off sale on Arrow Video titles for you budding enthusiasts looking to amass your own theatrical catalogue.

Also feel free to check out the Criterion thread by @NewEnglandGothic

And for Australian Boardies regarding the release of Disney titles:

    What are you talking about?

Did Marvel do omnibus reprints? There have been various reprints over the years

Yes they reprinted Aliens/Predator's original respective runs from their Dark Horse years as indicated by the following links: https://www.instocktrades.com/products/oct200680/aliens-omnibus-hc-vol-01-nelson-dm-var

    https://www.instocktrades.com/products/mar221139/predator-orig-yrs-omnibus-hc-vol-01-warner-dm-var

To delve into specifics I'm specifically referring to the first AvP storyline with Machicko Noguchi. But I'm just curious as to why they stopped at just printing those stories when AvP is held in a relatively same regard?

  7. Potential home thread for discussion of the series and its subsequent entries...however!

I was wondering why the original Predator and Aliens comics from '86 and '87 have been reprinted in their respective omnibuses but this series has been left in the dust? Does "Mahvel" simply not think of it as profitable? Or is there some other reason that I might've glossed over? ???

    I appreciate the help.

Here's a Lego video while you hobby ... a YouTuber I subscribe to that mostly discusses Magic and collectible card games has revealed his horde of sealed product

He also does give some decent financial insights (again insights, not advice) and/or dialogues for those who appreciate some musings (and it's at least worth a gander since he was a stockbroker in the 2000s). I used to love watching his videos when I was a MTG player in 2016-2020.

  9. Once Upon a Time in the West was what got me started in westerns. Harmonica is just such a bad:censored:

Favorite duel (from For a Few Dollars More):

Honorable mentions to Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Josey Wales, and all the Anthony Mann films (that also happened to have Jimmy Stewart).

  10. Just to shed some light on the matter on what Cat is referring to: via the Digital Bits and Dark Horizons

This at first started with Australian retailer Sanity announcing the end of selling Disney titles before Disney officially confirmed that they're pulling out.

Also I've been hearing rumors of Disney Movie Club shutting down in Canada and that they might be pulling out of there as well. Can anybody substantiate these claims? Thanks.

    But yeah seriously. :censored: Disney.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a giant tub of bots, and spent the next week or so identifying everything in there. Out of every figure, part, piece and accessory, these are the only two I've not been able to track down. I've looked over the ID guide at Transformerland and tfu.info, but I am just not seeing these. There were Go-Bots and some other random bits and bobs in the lot, so very likely these aren't even TF, but any kind of assistance would be most appreciated!

That green guy you got there is a Bakugan (sadly I wish I could remember which that one is but it's been about fifteen years since I've played:tonofbricks:). It'll fully unfurl when you put it on one of the Bakugan cards (there's usually a magnet on the bottom of the toy and the cards are metal).

No idea about that second guy though.

  12. That truly is a shame to hear having grown up primarily with Dino Thunder but also the '94 series. Even though I didn't understand it in my four year old mind at the time him being sort of the "darker" power ranger always made him my favorite. Flash forward about twelve years I actually went into my local LCS (the same day I got my learner's permit) and what do I see?! :whatthe: This little beauty (it was a 1 in 50 variant and this was the second printing if my recollection of facts is trustworthy). Kind of made my childhood and "adult" life intersect on that day to certain degree. Rest in Peace, JDF. You had a profound impact on my childhood and you definitely will be missed.

  13. Somebody recommended it, you wanted to revel in some nostalgia, the trailer was spellbinding, or perhaps you're just catching up on your backlog? This thread is designated for showcasing the newest addition to your collection (be it on PC, PlayStation, XBOX, Nintendo, or perhaps something from the more obscure chapters of the video game hobby) and maybe with a little blurb as to why you decided to pursue it.

I'll start with my catching up of my backlog (which I'd started in 2017 after defecting from Xbox) with some Resident Evils and finally playing Shadow of Mordor due to wanting a bit of a survival horror fix and playing a new game with some fantasy motifs:

(P.S. @Namtak I'm sure some of us would love to see your PSOne and other acquisitions here just so it doesn't get buried in the Antique/Flea Market thread :gossip:)

  14.  I've definitely appreciated The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, Baldur's Gate, Wizardry 8, Fallout 1/2, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and the Mortal Kombat Trilogy.

Each of these games have exhibited traits that truly makes the video game experience one that should not be forsaken in a lifetime. Whether it's stat systems that spew out intriguing scenarios (Baldur's Gate for combat and dialogue, Wizardry just for combat/dungeon crawls), wonderful storytelling (RDR2's depiction of the slow decay of Dutch's gang, the Witcher's incorporation of fantasy and political intrigue in a nice intermingling), experiences of different worlds altogether (Morrowind full stop. The Interplay Fallout's exquisitely written worldbuilding whether it be Vault experiments, Junktown, the faction motives. The talking heads also are frickin' brilliant.), or just stupidly good fun (Kombats, the original DOOM).

PS4 and PC are so far the most commendable platforms I've found so far for gaming.

  15. GameCube as a kid. My personal favorite was Midway Arcade Treasures 2. Playing Gauntlet, Mortal Kombat, Total Carnage, and Rampage World Tour had a profound effect on my love of video games.

Some other gems were Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (the Y-Wing bombing campaigns and the Datooine missions were visually mesmerizing), Shrek 2 (simple enough RPG elements that reminded me of the Bard's Tale remake that came out around the same time.), and Mario Kart Double Dash.
