  1. WoW. i just saw the hammer price on the tec 411. :applause: it almost reached my CGC SS 9.0 price. the book is hot.

It is about time, IMHO. I started picking up copies a couple of years ago, but chickened out on that 9.6 that was sitting on Clink for a while. The ask price was $1500, but when I put in lowball offers it triggered a confirm purchase at $825. Wish I had done it, because a 9.6 might be a $1500 book now. lol

After selling these two all I am down to in hand ;) is this copy:

Top 5 Adams Batman cover IMO. Not easy to find in high grade either. I don't usually go after 9.8 insanity but this was too nice to pass up.

  2. I think the dead giveaway is when one of the cover corners overhangs the inner pages but is perfectly straight and square. It stands out to me on the books I've looked at. An unpressed book typically has a little bit of rounding on overhanging corner covers.

I think this is a telltale sign as well however it's not a guarantee of a pressed book. There are copies out there that exhibit the sharp corners even with overhang that are not pressed. Hence the guessing factor that CGC is trying to avoid.

  3. Don't get me wrong with this post, depending on which day you catch me on I actually think the high grade market might crash for all 3 (GA, SA and BA) and then on other days I think the prices are sustainable. :insane:

But my question is this, why would it crash because of the press and flip? There doesn't seem to be any lack of buyers at silly prices when they know the books are being pressed and flipped. What might "crash" based on your analysis, is the profit being made off the press and flip if the book isn't improved.

Further, why limit to the SA market? Hasn't there been several well documented cases of GA books being pressed up several grades and commanding considerably more money? Actually as far as SA goes, you are only talking about the top couple of grade tiers, 9.4 to 9.6 type stuff. Wasn't there a couple of cases of mid grade GA books being pressed up to NMish?

  4. It's still at $255 from what I can see. What I'm not sure about is whether the Batman 227 actually has tape or if he copy/pasted the wrong description from the Batman 171 that does have tape. Can't really tell what is going on with the top staple. It might have been replaced but there doesn't appear to be a second set of staple holes on the outside of the front cover (shrug) Either way, I wouldn't take the chance at the current bidding level.

  5. I remember when 234 used to be worth more than 232. Now 232 has taken over and you don't really see or 234 very often now, or at least it seems that way. I wonder if two face comes out in a movie soon if it will revive that book some?

Ummmm... two face was just in the last movie and that did nothing for the book. 232 is by far the easiest of these to find in high grade so even though it is probably the biggest key I think it has the least potential for upward movement.

  6. SCS?

Shaken comic syndrome. Damage like that happens during shipping when the book is loose in the well and slams into the side of the well.

Especially when the book has a bit of edge overhang as it appears this one does.

Yup, those are the most susceptible.

  7. That'll press out.

Yeah, I'm hoping. It was already pressed, so to do it again won't hurt anything.

I was surprised it was a 9.6, I thought the best it was going to do was a 9.4...so I'm nervous to put it back through the press again and then have it graded all over again.

It will be interesting to see what they say.

They didn't do it when they slabbed it. That is a classic case of SCS. Should press out as I doubt the paper is broken. I'm not sure what CGC does in cases of SCS when on the way back from CGC, should be interesting to see what their response is.

  8. They seem legit...lots of large, detailed photos in every listing and consistently good feedback from experienced buyers. They don't list specific grades so they can't be accused of overgrading. They do seem to get unusually high prices for raw books but also do a good job of always having multiple auctions for key issues and cross-promoting their other listings by keyword spamming which is against eBay policy but not enforced. Plus they take full advantage of the fact that in the right light, comics look much better (glossier and brighter) in photos than scans (shrug)

They buy from Cpadoli/lexerific... that scammer group, thru other new id's..and even thru their own collectors_comics as a buyer...

So you tell me,how would you feel about buying a previously undisclosed restored or overgraded book sold by Lexerific(bajubaby05 now) originally, now being sold third party....?

I've had Ebay message conversations about this with them, and they don't care....just passing the BURN forward...

Don't drink the KoolAid...this seller is has NO GOOD INTENTIONS.

It's hard to overgrade a book if you don't give it a grade. Which in and of itself is shady as far as I'm concerned. They call it high grade but fail to actually tell you the grade. Hoping for the gambling ebay masses to pay up big in the hopes of a 9.4 when in reality it's more like a 7.0. Dizneyart plays this same game and it annoys me to no end. :frustrated:

  9. Thanks for showing the scan. I think I remember this book now; nice! Show us your 9.4 too. My 9.4 is really pretty IIRC; I don't think there's any miswrap. Sad no one else has responded in 5 days since you posted the book...man it's deader than dead lol.

It's probably not the book you're thinking of. I bought this off ebay a few months ago. It was listed as a VF to NM along with most of the Adams run of HOM by one seller who I don't think regularly sells comics. I bought most of the run and they really did range from VF to NM, a couple were lower than VF and this was the nicest book in the bunch.

  10. I think it's funny everyone is basically talking about Marvels, but nobody mentioned DCs?

Want BA that will hold its value? Go for Neal Adams Batman books. Clear winners still.

That's like Batman 200-255, isn't it? Is that his whole run?

i think FK meant his detective run too.

    Any Adams Batman cover.

Tec 395-411 (roughly) some great Adams covers afterwords.

    Bats 227 (cover only) 243-245, 251, 255

These are the notable covers, but those are the major ones I think of.

Completely agree. If you can find a Tec 395, 397, 402, 404 or 411 in 9.6 for under a $1000, go for those. Batman 235, 243 as well. I would put HOM 179 on the list as well but you can't get a 9.4 for under $1000 if you can even find a 9.4 to begin with.

  11.

If it comes up for sale, any guesses as to what it might fetch?

    $100 BAZILLION Dollars! :insane:

Looks like it did not crack the $4,000 mark. Man, has this book tanked. 9.6 copies were selling for close to that just a few months ago.

What was the PQ and centering of it? Everyone wants white or ow-white and perfect wrap.

Front to back mis-wrap and not sur eof the PQ but I think it was OW/W.

The miswrap was severe, it had an effect on the sale price. Over-priced to begin with.

  12. I can't believe one of our awesome board detectives has not figured out who the seller is yet.

If it was a Danny Dupcak thread we would already have a Google image of the guys house so we would know where to throw the toilet paper. lol

I know the participants. I'm just waiting for a fair explanation before weighing in.

Is "I got a better offer and took it" a fair explanation? (shrug) Because all word-smithing aside, that's what it's probably going to boil down to.

If that is what happened, Chris...no it's not.

It's unethical, dishonest and downright shitty.

Remember Jeff's Batman #1, which he 'bought' from Silver Arse, only to discover they had decided to sell it elsewhere for more coin? Same thing...and Silver Arse rightly got pounded for breaking a deal.

Oh I completely agree Nick. Money changed hands, deal was done and the seller is a person_who_is_obnoxiously_self-impressed for renegging. I'd be pretty surprised if that isn't what went down though.

  13. If Bat-man bought the book, I cant imagine him doing it knowing that the book was allready sold. He seems like a stand up guy!

I hope he can help clear the mystery up.

Although he did remove the book from his sig line as soon as this thread started.

Wonder why that might be? hm

I would cut the owner some slack... I'd guess the pulled book was an attempt to head off the mob of torches headed towards the seller until he had a chance to respond. Not too hard to figure out the seller's ID from the clues here.

Very disappointed at the events presented in this thread and I do hope the seller will weigh in soon. :wishluck:

No clue who the seller is (shrug) There are some of us that don't pay attention to GA sales but do a fair bit of buying on the boards.
