  1. You're talking about it... that means you're thinking about it. Dude, you realize you have NO MARGIN FOR ERROR... if you miss with that tape, and have to peel it off... ugh...
  2. Yes, that is true. I was thinking scotch tape. And now I must be channeling my inner Tony Stark... because at 11am I'm thinking scotch. LOL
  3. I recently had this happen to a book. I understand the temptation. But dont.
  4. That is a prime candidate for a press.
  5. So first you look up the wrong book, and say GPA is too low... then you look up the RIGHT book and say GPA is too high. LOL... Look, choose whatever means you wish to guesstimate value of a book. But GPA goes off sales, and sales is the best way to figure out what your book is worth. And it could be worth more to one guy this month than it is to another next month, or vice versa.
  6. Absolutely you can. Have them screen for restoration.
  7. Maybe a meat slicer! LOL I believe that will get you a purple label, but maybe not... almost looks like an accident... it’s not what I would call “restoration”... perhaps “desecration”. Either way, that’s now missing a chunk of the book, so possibly a 3.0? Total guess on my part. Probably lower, sadly. Too bad, because without that it’s at least 6.0.
  8. You think a press would help it? What flaws would it reduce or remove? Just curious... I haven't been pressing lower grade books with flaws like this has, unless they have spine rolls.
  9. Dang. I’m gonna say 2.5. But that may be optimistic. Are the inner pages chunked too, or just the cover?
  10. I don’t doubt it. I actually bought a press for that same purpose. Turns out I don’t have the patience... plus most of my books are mid grade with flaws a press won’t fix. But as I said earlier on this thread, I definitely appreciate the value in this.
  11. Also, while the blue (Universal) grade is far preferable to the purple (Restored) or green (Qualified), the purple still has value. Someone buying a CGC'd restored comic knows exactly what happened to the book. A book that a seller claims is restored has nothing verified. So buyers in general will pay more for a purple label than for an unslabbed restored book. Assuming the presence of restoration has been disclosed to the buyer, of course.
  12. I thought I’d trained him to use the litter box.
  13. On the plus side, the pen is all on the whites of his eyes. But I don’t know what I gain... would removing it get me a .5? Maybe. Maybe not.
  14. I agree about the press. The crease in the front hurts, but maybe you go from a 6.0 to 6.5 with the spine cleaned up.
  15. Absolutely. Altho I have yet to find the situation that works best for slabbed books.
  16. I say gently, and with love, that maybe you should start a thread asking this question, rather than asking it multiple times on other people's threads.
  17. Well, maybe not for a basic press. But I bet if there's a spine roll or something complicated, you could tell. I've got a Hulk 181 with spine roll. It's not going to the shirt shack.
  18. Whoever thought of that has some issues anyway. LOL Nice! That said, I feel much better about sending mine to joeypost. If I was gonna actively buy and sell going forward, maybe it would be worth learning the skill. But I like the idea of handing my books to a professional, especially at joey's rates. I can see me getting a press, a humidity chamber and really ruining some books. LOL
  19. LMAO at Bob... and even if it's shorter, it can FEEL like an eternity. I've got a Hulk 1 with color touch that they're un-restoring... first, they unrestored, then they suggested pressing... okay... then they graded it... it's shown as "graded" for a half a day. And I keep going there every 1/2 hour or so and refreshing the page.
