*UPDATE* Picked the book up today from the post office and got to look at it in hand. While it does feel nice to have such a massive key for my favorite series, it does fair a little bit worse (in my opinion) than the photos suggested; but I'm the farthest thing from an expert, so here are some better images for you to decide.

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
SerialGrape replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Issue #5 of the current venom series has winged venom on the cover. Probably has something to do with it. -
Okay, I dont think I over spent too much including shipping and import tax then... If I were to have this book submitted for grading, would it be worth getting it pressed before hand. I know the term 'worth' is subjective in this regard, but would it have any impact on the grade at all? Paging @joeypost? I know the pictures make it hard to judge, I'll upload some better ones as soon as it's in hand. Thanks lads!

"I can't believe you spent that much on a comic book"
SerialGrape replied to Skeptic_Kepp's topic in Comics General
Funny you mention drugs. I recently bought a comic off of a boardie for a chunk of change. It was the most I had spent on a book (until today when I spent $800 on a book from ebay on accident, but theres another thread on that...) For a couple minutes after I made the purchase, I had a feeling of guilt/remorse. But then I realised up until mid last year I would easily blow a minimum of 300 every second or so weekend on a bender full of drugs, booze and bad manners, and be left with a headache and an empty wallet at the end of it all... and some good memories to be fair. I've calmed down alot since then, and feel much better in the long run to be spending money on something I can have and enjoy that will (hopefully) retain its value. Your mileage may vary however - but I find it easier to explain 'you spent how much on a comic book?!' Rather than 'You put how much money up your nose?!' -
So I had been eyeing this book on ebay for a couple days, just too see how it would go. It had a BIN price of $520 US (which works out to be roughly $700 Australian) I noticed eBay had a 5% site wide discount so I went to see how much that would bring it down by - long story short I'd never entered a discount code before and messed up and just hit confirm and pay. I'm totally at fault here, but I thought I'd plead my case to the seller, to no avail (and to be fair, I don't blame him, it was my stupidity) So now I'm the new owner of this Giant Size X-men 1 that was listed as a "Nice mid-grade copy" for a total price of $880 Australian including shipping and import charges. I would love to know an actual rough grade if possible so I know if and by how much I have stitched myself up by. (Excuse the images, this is just what the seller had listed)

I was contemplating getting some books graded from Halo as they're local to me here in Brisbane - not to flip, just so I could get a grade and have them protected. However after reading this thread I'm super wary of doing so. If I were to sell them in the future for whatever reason, I dont want to get stitched up like the above poster and find out theyre restored or missing pages or whatever. Any knowledge on the best and cheapest way to get the books to CGC from aus? Do they come to any cons? I've never seen any CGC reps over here.

My brother sent me the image as he moved into my old house and I hadnt changed my address yet. I'm not sure if he pulled it out of the letterbox or if they tried to fit it in, failed and just left it in the ground... either way it's pretty pathetic -

Nothing super important thankfully - a New Avengers 35 with the wolvie/venom cover that I just grabbed because it was cheap. Could certainly have been worse as I have a few other things coming that aren't so easily replaced... I was expecting the worst before I opened it. -
Just recieved this in the mail today... You can imagine my reaction Whats the worst condition you have recieved a comic in after transit?

I really don't like Ruby Rose... I'm an aussie, and even me hearing her accent makes me cringe. I don't have anything else to add to the conversation. -

Australian price variant information
SerialGrape posted a topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Today in an antique store I stumbled upon this (somewhat beat up) Silver Surfer #44 - the first app. Of the Infinity Gauntlet. I know nothing really about Aus pricing variants. By definition I guess they're rarer than the US counterparts (being newsstand editions for a much smaller market), but as for desirability and pricing, I'm clueless. Are they more sought after than the US editions? I know the UK variants certainly aren't, are we, down under, any different? -

Expect Venom Lethal Protector 5 to start punching above it's weight - about 20 copies sold from today and yesterday on eBay since the new trailer for the movie popped up showcasing a certain villain... -

Hahaha that's amazing. In a simmilar vain, I really enjoy going into cheap shops and browsing the bootleg Marvel and DC toys they have. Some of them are just brilliant, I'll try and snap a photo of some good ones this week and post them. -
