  1. I can't help you on your question, but I have a related question. Has anyone from CGC explained in a past thread exactly what the difference is between a Standard Press and a Quick Press? I had heard that the Quick Press was one shot through, and if something didn't come out, too bad. The Standard Press would include a retry. Then I thought I recall someone from CGC refuting that description. Also heard it was that one was cleaned and pressed, the other just pressed. Then saw that refuted. So what is the definition of these services??
  2. That's right, @kav. They send the refund, but don't credit the fee. If @silverweb refunded and got re-paid, he would again incur the fee. Not really out the fee twice, but one was deserved, so definitely a cost to @silverweb. Another good reason why you can't do it. @Turnando I think the buyer is just legitimately trying to turn back the clock to when he could have used the Discover card to get the bonus rewards. Doesn't seem too nefarious. Just dawned on him that he missed out on $40. So yeah, I guess imbecile fits, but a bit harsh. We're tough on stupidity here.
  3. Agree with @Motor City Rob. Doesn't sound like something you could do without huge risk. As soon as you refund, he has both the item and the money. That won't wok. I thought of sending him a PayPal invoice to be paid by Discover, then do the refund, but that has its problems, too. He would have to be willing to pay twice and hope for a refund. You also have no proof that the invoiced goods were delivered, no tracking (the original delivery predates payment), so you could get a chargeback. You're trying to save him $40 after the fact and risking $795. Maybe someone sees a solution, but I don't think there is one. Just too late to pull it off. Hopefully he doesn't want to do a return to force your hand.
  4. Maybe it was in there, but against the frame, blending in. Then it moved to where it was more visible. Just conjecture, as I am only suspecting that it is a loose piece of plastic riding along. The CGC cases are open on the sides a bit, usually. If you can get it to move toward a side, it might just slip out.
  5. Looks like a plastic fragment from the inner case, like a scrap piece, got encased along the way. I haven't had one come back like that, but probably another boardie will confirm or refute it.
  6. Sounds like you don't really view your slabbed comics regularly, so the slab is 99% for protection, versus 1% aesthetics. Since it has been suggested that they are fine, just the Newtonian effect (2 dissimilar plastics refracting light at different angles), you might just put them back in the box and be happy that they are safe. CGC will not pay to re-slab due to Newton rings. They would have to re-slab every book they ever slabbed. Maybe someday they will figure out a way around it.
  7. To my recollection, even though CGC collects your credit card data, you are not charged until they receive the submission in FL and open the package. At that time, they will see the $150 credit on your account and act accordingly. If you didn't use up the credit, it will just reduce. If your grading bill is over $150, it will be applied. I think I wrote a note on the submission last time, just to bring it to mind that I had a credit coming. The credit is applied to GRADING charges only, NOT to pressing, shipping, admin fees, etc. You have 1 year to use the credit.
  8. CGC already has an imaging option to photograph the front and back of your book for $5. So if they were to expand that to the whole comic, another 32 pages, $5 per 2 pages, you're at $85 including the covers. I'll pass.
  9. There are some variations in the holograms on most of the Fatal Attractions issues. They are supposed to all be an amber color, but you can see a lot of different tints to them - green, blue/green, blue, even a sort of rose color on X-Men 25. The deep blue on Wolverine 75 is a recognized variant, usually noted as "Distorted Hologram".
  10. Maybe, if you purchased a membership recently, you are receiving the free shipping kit offered now. You can check the status of your submission on your dashboard. The 2 things are probably not related.
  11. My last order looked like that, too. And only half of the contents were listed, like someone stopped in the middle. Then all of the contents were listed the next day, still most fields blank. Next day it was all completed, grades, notes, tier, etc. So maybe it is becoming visible during the process, instead of only at the very end. Like a work in progress.
  12. On the positive side, the comics code seal looks to be a decent distance away from the edge. Sometimes a bit of it is clipped when trimmed, or unusually snug to the edge. On the negative side, the page edges do look a bit ragged. Did you measure the width and compare to a book published at a similar time?
  13. Wow, another pitfall to watch out for. Thanks for alerting us @Buzzetta. I guess I'll be checking the address on the label more thoroughly from now on.
  14. Oops. Didn't see that post until I posted. Well, I had a good guess.
  15. Not entirely. Just figuring if that comic comes out of the case, it has lost its "chain of custody". Any similar comic could be substituted. But I know you have expertise in this area, so maybe you know of a situation that allows it to keep its authentication. Like if someone is authorized by CGC to do that process.
  16. It probably WAS a 9.6. It's likely "shaken comic syndrome". Maybe it took a jolt during shipping, the comic moves in the inner holder toward a corner, cover folds over if it was overhanging a bit. Do you have photos from before it got shipped to compare?
  17. Nice book! In this case, I think it's a bit of a gamble to get it pressed. I don't know its current value, but it has to be significant. That determines your pressing and grading cost, as the higher the declared value, the more it costs for both processes, due to it being insured by CGC while it's there. You can only have CGC press it, no other 3rd party, because if someone other than CGC takes it out of its current holder, you have lost your signature authentication completely. You would be paying the pressing and grading cost, shipping both ways, hoping for a better grade. The defects in the notes all involve color breaks, which pressing won't remove. Pressing might improve the overall appearance. The grade could go either way, or stay the same. No way to know until the moment of truth. Unless you are trying to sell it, maybe it's best to just leave it. It's safe in the holder, and if for your personal collection, there's no reason to grade it again. Unless it bothers you that you think it should definitely be higher, and looking at it "under-graded" is driving you crazy.
  18. I just did a simulated order and it seemed to work fine. On the first page I selected Mail-in to Headquarters, Grading, and Quick Press, 3 blocks highlighted, hit Next. On that page I added 15 copies of a single comic, clicked Next. It presented the Quick Press Tier, and a choice of $8 Modern and $15 Value, so I selected Modern, and hit Next. At the Grading Tier, I added Modern, and clicked Checkout. The price came out right, no messages of any kind, seemed to work as it should. It knew to charge $8 for Quick Press instead of the normal $12. On the very first comic you enter, it should show as $8, so that is a way to know if things are starting out right. I know I have done it before with multiple copies of multiple titles, so that should not be a factor. You can call customer service if you can't straighten it out. They could take a look at your Cart to see what is causing the issue.
  19. Maybe you chose to get custom labels for some? That creates a separate tier, and can split the order. Or maybe some other order option causing a similar problem.
  20. The thing is.....I don't lurk. Whatever I am following is visible, always has been, to my knowledge. I just wanted to know how the different settings work. I also like to skim through owner's manuals when I get a new device, or car, etc. I want to know what everything does. Lots of things we have don't get used to their full potential. But it was ASSUMED that I must be a lurker (not that there's anything wrong with that, as they say on Seinfeld). I just set my areas of interest, get notifications, check some out, skip some, reply if I can be of any help, provide an opinion if someone is "polling" something - maybe. I didn't have a reason to lurk, until maybe now. I've been into comics close to 60 years. Professional grading is relatively new to me, a year or so, picking up some info here. That's my whole involvement. Maybe get to buy and sell a couple of things down the road. And then there's this: "a 146 IQ and owning a business, I'm a competitive surfer who traveled the world for decades. I have an oceanfront home, probably bought and sold more this month in books than you do in 5 years" followed by " I don't puff my chest" THAT'S funny.
  21. In your notification preferences, https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/notifications/options/, there is a setting "Automatically follow content I reply to". I have that checked. So I reply to a post, and now following it. Also, the check box is checked - "Let others see that I follow this", by default. I can manually uncheck it, but not able to set the DEFAULT to anonymous. No big deal, just thought I was missing something. But I suspect it is one of those situations you mention. Thank you for offering assistance.
  22. I'm thinking that I shouldn't have to un-tick the box. It should be un-ticked by default. I know I can change it on the fly, or many at a time in Manage, but what if I preferred that it was blank from the get go? If I reply to a post, according to my Preferences, I am now following that post. It also automatically ticks the box "Allow others...." Maybe I don't want it to apply that.
  23. Interesting approach, @kav. What if the dot is silver where you covered it up, but bleeds through black where the original color touch was? Is it both a CT and a silver dot? Or is it a puzzle for the grader to figure out?
  24. Thank you for following up, @Get Marwood & I, but the action you show allows you to change your visibility status only AFTER you have followed something, instead of having it apply from the beginning. So if I reply to a post, I am a visible follower by default, when maybe I just want to be an anonymous follower. I don't have a problem with people seeing what I am following, at this time, just was curious how to have it set differently from the beginning. But it looks like you can't, unless you shut it off manually in the Manage Followed Content section. And despite being trampled on about it by @KryptoSpidey, I'll choose to toggle it either way.
  25. I guess everyone should do as you do, @KryptoSpidey. Why should anyone have a different take on things, a different opinion? Glad I'm not a closed-minded know-it-all.
