  1. Hi, I'm fairly new to the boards and have recently been offered a TMNT color error edition signed buy Eastman graded 9.8. I actually bidded on the copy on eBay didn't win and now over a month later the seller has sent me through an offer $210. Do you think the book is worth the offer? And do you also think it will hold its value, speculatively of course. I'v got until tomorrow until offer expires. Any advice would be much appriaciated thanks

You should subscribe to GPA which tracks actual sell prices for CGC graded comics. Here's all the data they have for that one.

    Mar-25-2012 $154 Cert# 1062041008

    Mar-11-2012 $346 Cert# 1062041012

Here's the one that sold for $346

    One just sold for $212

I think $210 is a fair price, and I think it will pretty much remain flat for the foreseeable future. But that's just my opinion.

    ++

I was watching that one that just ended at $212... I've been thinking they'll eventually come back closer to 150. If I see one at 175, I'll likely pull the trigger. If you've got a straight up offer for $210 tho, that seems pretty good. Especially if it includes shipping.

  2. Is this the walking dead thread?

Funny that this spike is happening when the comic is at an all time low. I quit reading it in trade because it was boring and only watched part of the first season of the show for the same reason.

If I had any of them I would have already sold them. Anyone left holding these a year from now is going to be kicking themselves.

All of these comics are reprinted 1000x over...trades, hardcovers, weeklies...anyone who just wants to read can do so without paying out the nose. This is being fueled by speculation not casual or new fans.

Sooo, what you're saying is that you haven't read the comics or watched the show in over a year. But you know that everything WD related is currently boring. hm

The show was only mediocre. I saw a recent episode by chance and it was even worse than the first season. The production values seemed much worse than I remembered.

The first 40 something issues of the comic were a decent read. It got really old after that and I kept going into the 80s hoping it would get better but it did not. It just got more tired. Maybe after a few more trades come out I'll check it out at the library and give it another chance, but probably not.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that isn't jizzing in their jeans over the book.

I do wish I had some to sell to some of the crazy mo fos buying them on eBay though.

I would never jizz over any of my books thats nasty!!! :o

1 I always wash my hands when I touch any of my books and 2 jizzing in ones pants is well to put in clean words just uncomfortable

What's the point deduction for jizz stains on books??? :shy:

depends on whether or not a CGC representative witnessed the jizzing.

  3. These are fun. Adaptations of the first two films. Signature Series -- Kevin Eastman, Ernie Reyes Jr. (Donatello Suit Actor - Movie I, Keno - Movie II), and Kenn Scott ("Talkative Foot" and Stunts - Movie I, Raph Suit Actor - Movie II). These are the first SS books Ernie and Ken have done.

That's really neat! (Now you just need to get Robbie Van Winkle to sign #2)

  4. I think I miss the time when just having a certain comic seemed to matter, as long as it was not falling apart. Now it seems having a certain key issue is not enough, but you have to have the issue In a really high grade. Maybe I'm misremembering how collecting was before CGC, But it seems like the strict condition of comics wasn't as big a concern.

Some of us never liked books that are falling apart.

    (shrug)

I like to have nice books as well, but I also really miss the time when just having the book was usually enough. I was looking at my Sandman set a while ago (that I'd had since high school) and realized that most of the earlier issues were maybe 9.0 at best... then I realized that I had hard cover collections of all of them. Then I realized that I had the Absolute editions of all of them... so keeping the original floppies in mediocre condition just seemed silly. I still wanted the originals, but I didn't see the need to keep a mid-grade run of a modern comic. Sold the set, and branget's helping me upgrade to a 9.8 run.

Similar story with my TMNT vol. 1 run... I had a bunch of bits and pieces but finally bit the bullet and just bought the full run on ebay. Looked like it's be a solid 9.0/9.4+ run, and I was really happy with the price. The freaking seller shipped all the comics w/o bag&board just wrapped up in plastic bags and jammed in a box with some newspaper. Needless to say I was none too pleased and am not overly interested in hanging on to this. (Especially if IDW keeps producing these Ultimate editions) I'll end up selling this run shortly and just continue working on my 9.8 run instead...

But there was definitely a time where upgrading my collection was the least of my concerns. Having a full run of Sandman and/or TMNT would have been awesome enough... even if only mid-grade readers. I totally blame CGC. :)

  5. I suppose you hit comic cons to make $$ these days by getting exclusive comics.

I think maybe I wasn't paying much attention to comics when this trend began. I guess it's maybe great for the industry to get more cash flowing around, but I remember just hating the idea... as well as retailer exclusives. I've warmed up to the idea a bit since then... still bugs me, but I guess there ain't no use in complaining.

  6. Not to get off the topic of the walking dead, but is Proof by Image still kind of "hot"? did not see much on ebay for the first couple issues; I just picked up 1 -5 and 7 -10 for a buck and a half each. Just curious and hope it is okay to ask in this forum

I never really got the feeling (sadly) that Proof ever got to be too hot. Seemed like Neg Burn 7 and Proof 1 topped out around $15 a while ago; don't really see either of them making much noise unless Riley and Alex get another series going...

  7. I was doing a search on Primer looking for an old post of mine and didn't realize there was a thread dedicated to primer so I thought I would post this #2.

I think it was cool that I saved this book from not being desired using a standard pressing technique.

Wow! I think that's really cool... well done :)

  8. RMA has a stack of those, doesn't he?

Love this book... I got my #2 (along with Grendel 1-3) signed by Wagner at HeroesCon a few years ago. Not SS, mind you, just signed... and they're extra worthless now b/c I asked him to write "To Jim" on them. :)

    Good luck with the hunt!

  9. wow... those are some pretty good scans... looks like a lot of those break color, but I guess there are a good number of NCB creases that we (or at least *I*) can't see so well? Good luck! I'm really interested to find out how this comes back... I think I might send my copy to Joey as well... wonder if he can get the "Slight Amateur Color Touch" on the cover off...

  10. Nonplayer 1 still seems to be selling pretty well ($15.00 to 25.00). This is even with the very long delay for the 2nd issue which still has not come out due to the artist recovering from an accident

The comic is just a few extra months late b/c of the car wreck (its supposed to be out 13 months after the 1st issue), in an interview Simpson indicates that he hopes to release it then and admits that the 2nd issue would have took him about 8 months had he not been injured. I just can't bring myself to follow a title that takes 8 months between issues.
