Sorry if this thread already exists.  If so, it needs a bump in my opinion. :bump:.  I always wondered why Chastity looked so different on the inside of this issue.

    Nice.

I had the first issue of this series for decades but never picked up the rest. Got the new hardcover a month or so ago and just started it... it's certainly a strange one, but so far so good.

Definitely, and the book is devoted fully to the crow with a full complete story, it's getting there. I'll never own, I don't think I can afford albedo, cerebus, or tmnt.

I do have caliber and the crow #1&2

I hear you. I feel *very* lucky to have gotten those when I did. I remember getting up really early to watch that TMNT auction close. At the time that was, by far, the most I'd ever spent on a single book, and I was pretty scared about it!

Is that Crow series a single story, or is each issue self-contained?

I think it was the news of Momoa once upon a time, and then perhaps after that movie news was cancelled, it at least got the info out about the book: how few are available or something?

That's the only thing I can think, and I justify my opinion by looking at Caliber Presents the 1st appearance has gone up but by smaller margins.....

    Otherwise I just don't know lol(shrug)

The cover to #1 is about a million times cooler than Presents too...

Awesome, a 9.8 on 1st app of Grendel is nothing to sneeze at though :whatthe: Awesome Experience!

Side note, the Crow #1 is breaking barriers of it's own @Wolverinex would have been nice to make that a "cat" club too :x

Wow... was the print run on that much smaller than the 1st appearance?  I don't have a #1, but I can join *that* cat club if we use Presents! :)

  5. Thanks!

Yep, Matt was at HeroesCon back in, like, 2007 or 2008, and I had him autograph that as well as the 3 issues of the original series. (#1 sig is on the inside)  I bought that at some local Con a few years prior to that for about $75 and had it graded as NM.  Definitely didn't think I was sitting on a 9.8, so I feel pretty stupid for not getting it certified.  At the time I was just really excited to meet Matt and get the signatures.  Thought that dealing with CGC would have been too much of a hassle. Oops.  I ended up getting it graded in 2018 once I finally got my own account.

The Albedo and TMNT were both ebay purchases in 2007... $770 for the TMNT and $350 for the Albedo.  How times have changed!

TMNT was a slabbed 9.0... I sent it in to see if the resto (small amount of color touch on the front cover) could be removed a couple of years ago, but it couldn't.  Got a tiny bump though, so I can't complain too much.  Or at all, really!  Peter Laird as at the same show as Matt, and I had him sign the original slab...

Albedo was a raw VF, and I had that graded in the same batch as the Primer.  Stan was at Heroes last year, and I got him to sign that hardcover collection that came out a while back instead of this... was too afraid to crack the Albedo, b/c I feel pretty lucky with a 9.0 on that one.

CGC sometimes grades this book, along with turtles one lighlty. I suppose it's due to the black cover and type of paper used. You never quite know what you're going to get.

That's interesting... I was definitely surprised when mine came back a 9.0 due to all the spine ticks. A couple of people around here commented the same... I had it around 8.0...

  7. So what's the percentage of "new" fans of the old stuff that is coming from current comics readers vs the nostalgia buyers who now find themselves with money? I generally hate IDW, but I can't deny they've done a great job with the property. Does this bubble only exist while the kids who grew up watching the show have interest, or will there be a new crowd of fans to keep this ball rolling who are coming up on the current crop of stories?

  8. I skipped a few pages, so apologies if this was mentioned, but I've wondered why Tales #6 never seems to get any love...

1st Leatherhead in a pretty solid story with always-stellar B&W art by Lawson, and some big names doing pinups.

Only 22 graded with 3 in 9.8 (1 SS). Wish I'd been paying attention this summer when it looks like someone graded and sold a stack... I'd love to give someone $60-something for a 9.8!

While on Tales... and although not Copper... vol 2 #70?

I had the only 9.8 copy for a while, and then one popped up and sold for 400. That brought a few out and down to 275. Does that book have any staying power?

Will any of volume 4 be $$, especially those last few with the super small print runs?

  9. Fun topic... I always enjoyed this title when I was younger too...

Just submitted an offer on a 9.0 raw... *fingers crossed* :)

These were two of the very first back issues I ever bought.  You can tell that I read them a couple of times... the 26 was my favorite though.

I managed to upgrade the 70 when Pedigree had a BUNCH of HG MTU's back in October of 2018.  I was in on the 26 too, but it went too high for me...

  10. Oh yeah... there was a footnote I thought was strange that had something to do with spectacular... ok...

But still... that whole "remove the costume so no one knows the truth" thing was just so wrong... i guess it does come back to bite him in the when Harry does the same thing a few issues later...

I also wonder... at what point did Conway (et al) know Gwen was about to die?

  11. I started reading Conway's ASM at 121 but stopped at 130 to go back to the beginning... just finished 118, and wtf.

Spidey trying to save face for Raleigh was an absolutely ridiculous turn of events. Seems out of character but was also just completely wrong! We need "symbols??" C'mon with that .

Did Conway ever address this? Either in the book or an interview somewhere? There's plenty of silly stuff in these books, but that was just beyond the pale...

  12. For some dumb reason I'm standing up holding a bag of comics trying to get the tape off... the tape comes off, I drop the bag, and the books land pretty solidly on one corner.  Each book is bag/boarded separately, so it could have been worse; the two on each end understandably got the worst of it.  It was just a bag of a half dozen moderns from DCBS, so no major worries or anything, but how would you grade an otherwise 9.6/9.8 book with a crushed upper-spine corner?

    Can they still be 9.2's?

Hard to see on the scans, but here are close-ups of the two worst books...

(Limited edition No Prize if you can tell what books they are... first shipment post-Covid)

Amazing Spider-Man 258 (in which Spidey discovered the true nature of his new costume and ditched it) - November 1984

right, yeah... I looked up those months a little bit ago... Am I completely making up some kind of argument about when the "true" first appearance was?  That was a long time ago, but I really thought I remembered something muddy about it first showing up.  Maybe it was just b/c the Secret Wars storyline came first?

Who knows... I barely remember going to bed last night, so who knows what's rattling around in my brain. :)
