Question for the group - how valuable/desirable at the TMNT Ultimate Collection Slipcased collections that IDW published a few years back?  I think only 25 were made of the 1st collection (volumes 1-3) and a similar amount of the 2nd collection (volumes 4-6)?  Do Turtles collectors care?

Follow-up... should that collected edition from Mirage in, like, 2009 (?) still commanding silly prices?

  2. Prices on these just keep going up... there's no way I'm going to ever be able to complete this set with the way things are going, so I'm going to go back to working on Daredevil. (If you've got a #7 9.0 or #111 9.8, holler at me!) I'd like to sell these as a lot, but if there is no interest in a week or so I'll look at breaking them up and going individual.

Books will be shipped from Charlotte, NC within 1 business day

No listings in GPA for the four SS's, so I just used the Universal values for those. Total "last sales" value according to GPA as of today (Jan 21):
Asking  for the lot including shipping and insurance to the lower 48 via FedEx ground in a CGC shipping box. (Happy to work with you if you're outside of that)

Jan 28: I've had a a couple of requests for a few specific issues... I will update the price for the remaining lot as soon as requests are sorted, but please feel free to hit me up.  My initial asking was, basically, 10% below last GPA...

Zelle, Venmo, Cash, Check, Cash app, or Paypal all work for me.

No returns as these are all CGC graded and will be sent insured.

    Lot includes:

    Michealangelo #1

    Donatello #1

Onslaught junk.  But they tried to come back to it being Bishop when they did that terrible Hope/Cable story not too long ago.

    Patrick

So was that it? I remember waiting for the payoff to that storyline for a long time too... I stopped reading for a few years and came back around #350, which is where I think they were still blaming Gambit? Man... that was so long ago... (Going upstairs to see if I still have 350... couldn't Rogue touch people back then?)

This was a great series, though IIRC the DC issues were reprints of an earlier indie title.

Hmmm... I know there was a sequel from Slave Labor, but I thought these were original? (The SL books were still good, but I really liked the DC books much better!) ((Or DC reprints?))

Its funny to think back on how regional finding books was.  I was in suburban Philly and I bought the first Albedo #2 I ever saw at a show and Im not sure I recall seeing one again for quite some time.  There were a fair amount of cons in Philly back then, especially considering what a fringe hobby comic book collecting was in the mid-80s.  But I always imagined NYC was the mecca where if you lived in that city, no matter what book you were looking for, you were going to find a copy without much of a struggle.

Was Stan based on the West Coast back then too? Where was T&I based?

If the Trivia Question were "Where did Spider-Man first Kick Superman's A**?", then the answer would be outside the NY Coliseum (or maybe if you were a diehard DC fan you would say, it's a trick question, it never happened) on Columbus Circle in Manhattan.

At first, I didn't think I would really be into digging into Ross's references for the Superman vs. the Amazing Spider-Man Treasury.  Yeah, the Empire State Building, but that's kind of easy.  But the more I dug into it, the more I enjoyed it.  Yesterday, I put up the USS Maine Monument from this issue.  Today, let's look at what Ross portrayed when Spidey first met Superman.

The gang and Clark Kent's crew were attending the World News Convention in the New York Coliseum, when they first interacted.  How do we know that?  Well, page 30 tell us (I did all my research finding these places, then actually read the story and said, oh, it's right there in black and white).  Bedlam erupts as Superman disappears Lois and MJ.  Not standing for it, Peter changes to Spidey and rushes to the roof, where he encounters the Man of Steel for the first time.

Ross depicts a good outside shot of the Coliseum later in the issue, which is my first reference.  My photograph shows this view from the USS Maine Monument.  I assumed Spidey knocked him further in those pics yesterday, but hell, he is Superman.

I didn't find many references to the interior of the NY Coliseum, but the escalators Ross drew were spot on.

My next reference is of Columbus Circle itself, and you can see Ross really wanted to get it correct.  This montage shows the relationship of the action as it would translate to real life.

The building with a GW on it is the Gulf Western Building.  It was originally the headquarters for the Gulf Western company.  It's been changed today.

The cool building Spider-Man gets knocked through is now the Museum of Arts and Design, and was a real museum back in the day.  The building itself was simply called 2 Columbus Circle and has been modernized as well.

Lastly, Ross throws in an apartment building, 240 Central Park South, it add to the location.  It's little stuff like this that makes Ross the best.

I still have to do the Spider-Man stuff from the front of the book, but the Spider-Man vs Superman battle was a lot of fun to track down.

Big jump. A little context for previous 9.2's:

The last one sold was a purple label on 9/20/20 for $15.5K on ebay. Previous copies sold for $11.5K and $9K of blue labels back on 11/20/19 and 8/20/19 respectively.

Not sure how I missed that PLOD as that's still what I'm sitting on. That's the first PLOD comp in a long long time. Thanks!

  8. I just finished season 9 of Dallas...spoiler alert, it's a freaking dream?? I didn't know that going in... what an annoying waste!

I also didn't know that about the final episode of Newhart when I saw it, but that one was actually pretty awesome. Never saw St. Elsewhere, but... snow globe or whatever. I guess there's also that season of Roseanne...

So are there any long running comic stories that pulled this trope at the end? I can't even think of any specific minor arcs that did it ATM, but I feel like I've definitely come across them... (One More Day is all that comes to mind even though it's not exactly the same... and that was awful.)

Remembering back to 1986/87, we had dealers in the DC area charging $200 for Albedo #2 back then.  At the time, there wasn't a lot of recognition of the different printings of #0 and #1 (except for the "Yellow" #0 which was selling for $800 if you could find one).  At the time, I think #0's were selling between $35-50 for 3rd and 2nd printings.  1st printings you didn't see very often, but imagine they were going for $125-150.  #1's were going for $60-100 from what I remember.  So, even back then, people were valuing the #2 a bit more, but occasionally you'd find them in boxes for cheaper as the price guides weren't keeping up with the market.

#3's were plentiful as the print run on those jumped to 10,000 with that issue (from 2,000 on issues #2).  American Comics (the mail order company) had bought out the inventory of those.  At one point, I remember they were blowing them out for $.20/copy because they had so many.  Crazy to see the prices on them today.

    Ah... American Comics!

The closest store I had growing up was over an hour away, so I did a lot of orders through them. I loved getting those orders and still have a couple boxes kicking around here almost 30 years later. :)

I certainly didn't know anything about b&w indies back then. It was all McFarlane, Lee, Larson, Marvel, and Image until I finally got my license...

  10. I really appreciate the DH over sized hardcover collections too. Would like to be able to have the whole story in that format, but it's not quite complete, right? I haven't looked in a while...

War Child is the first I ever read due to that badass Biz cover on #1. For a long time that's all I knew of Grendel... but Hunter is the shiz, and I'd love to see his story adapted. Seems like it'd be a fairly cost-friendly story to make too...

But either way... don't need it on TV for it to still be great! I should really upgrade my 1-3 before that happens though...
