Creative OA Portfolio cover art
Captain ShipWreck replied to Adam_savage's topic in Original Comic Art
A few years ago I saw a guy at Heroes Con getting Neal Adams to draw a giant bust of Cyclops on his 11x17. I imagine he was going to get it colored eventually. If you theme your portfolios it could be cool to get someone to draw on the outside to match. -
Michael Turner Fathom swimsuit cover hits $22+k on CLink

I'm not a Turner collector but I thought this would end in the 15k-17.5k range because it's such a well-known image. IMO it went high -

It's their "Intranet" system. If a package seems lost or hasn't moved in 3-5 days call and ask if there is any movement on that end and they can check. You still need to find a non lazy employee to look but if you request it there's a better chance.

Heritage Auctions June 20-23 Auction is unreal !
Captain ShipWreck replied to batman_fan's topic in Original Comic Art
I didn't know Roger well but spoke to him a few times in the past four years. He was a great guy, from my experience. I initially asked him about a specific piece of art I was looking for, and he took the time to see if he could locate it. I was a random, and he took a good amount of time to try to help me. Gave me a ton of history on it, which wasn't public knowledge. He knew the original owner of the piece, funny enough. From my short interactions, he was a real gem. -

I know the card and am familiar with both versions. A lot of the roughs looked different from the finished versions. Here's a better scan of what I posted before. It could be something different but it is marked as card 11 and aliens are killing humans with guns. -

I agree with you, I believe it to be the best as well - I will not be surprised if it ends up in the Halperin collection. It will be a crazy and fun auction to watch from the sidelines. -

So this is the same comp that came to mind since it's the same type of classic image Black Cat is to comics. However, I think 250k is where this will fall roughly. I could be completely wrong, but I remember the talk when Chamber of Chills was coming up for sale. A lot of collectors were saying 500-750k. When that auction ended many said it was such a deal. If it was, I feel like plenty of offers would have been made, but when you look at the listing, there aren't any pending/rejected. -
At this point, you've put it out there and brought some attention to the situation. Not much more you can do at this point. At the end of the day he will see your information and feel how he feels about the piece (which you can't change) and the community will decide what they feel is the "legitimate piece". You could ask him to change his description or talk to his friends but I wouldn't expect much from that.

Heritage Auctions Apr 4-7 2024

The result is high, but you're getting one of Mignola's best drawing pieces from a prime era. It's by far the best Dracula image there is. For context, I don't care much for the Dracula comic but I threw 40k at it in hopes of taking it down because it is an amazing example. I agree that for the money I'd also rather have Hellboy but I felt that way with the Death in the Family cover results. You could buy a couple of good vintage Hellboy covers for this price, but for the same dollar amount, you couldn't take down one of the best Hellboy covers at this point. -
Feels right to me.

Where do you think this should have landed at? I wasn't aware of the previous sale but thought it was worth 35k

He's one of the best guys out there. I hope he has a great future in the industry. He's too talented not to. -

Not much of a commission collector, but this is my favorite piece I've commissioned. Cthulhu by Jonathan Wayshak. Size is 11x17 and was done a few years back. Jon liked it so much that he eventually made it into prints, shirts and I believe some promo stuff. -
Comunication problem with Cadence Comic Art
Captain ShipWreck replied to Xouman's topic in Original Comic Art
To follow up on my previous comment. About 5 weeks ago I ordered a cover from Paolo. He was very responsive for a couple of days when I wanted to purchase the piece, but after payment was made it was radio silence on when the art would ship. After 3 weeks of sending an email a week, I contacted the artist for advice. I was suggested to do whatever I felt was needed to receive the art or money back. At the 4-week mark I opened a PayPal claim for a full refund. It took the full 7 days without any fighting or prolonging the claim from Paolo's end. This afternoon was the 7th day of the claim being opened with PayPal siding with me. The artist said if they receive the art back from Cadence I can purchase it from them. If that ever happens I'll do another update. -

Bought a piece last week from them. Hasn't shipped out yet but I'll keep you posted when I get it. -
Thank you! The timing was perfect and I live in a smaller tourist town so prices weren’t insane yet. My neighbor, who has a similar layout to mine, just sold theirs for 140k more than what I paid. If I were in the market today it would have been practically impossible without selling off some of the best pieces in my collection.
