I've found out that if you find a helpful USPS worker at the store they have an enhanced tracking system that allows them to see way more detail than what customers see on tracking sites. I've had items in customs limbo before and my local USPS has been able to help track down the package and get it moving again.

Finding a helpful postal employee is not easy though!

It's their "Intranet" system. If a package seems lost or hasn't moved in 3-5 days call and ask if there is any movement on that end and they can check. You still need to find a non lazy employee to look but if you request it there's a better chance.

Unfortunately, I didn’t know about Roger Hill until seeing his amazing collection in this auction thread. I dug around and found a couple of nice articles about him and his collecting journey:

    https://www.tcj.com/roger-hill-early-comics-fan-historian-and-scholar-dies-at-75/

there is also a nice thread about Roger Hill here on CGC:

Sounds like a he was true gem in our hobby!

I didn't know Roger well but spoke to him a few times in the past four years. He was a great guy, from my experience. I initially asked him about a specific piece of art I was looking for, and he took the time to see if he could locate it. I was a random, and he took a good amount of time to try to help me. Gave me a ton of history on it, which wasn't public knowledge. He knew the original owner of the piece, funny enough. From my short interactions, he was a real gem.

    For reference

I know the card and am familiar with both versions. A lot of the roughs looked different from the finished versions. Here's a better scan of what I posted before. It could be something different but it is marked as card 11 and aliens are killing humans with guns.

    Right, I understand, and remember.

I guess I'm thinking 174 now means less than 174 then, and I also personally place BC50 at the top of the Harvey covers Elias did, but not everyone will agree.   Will be fun to watch.

I agree with you, I believe it to be the best as well - I will not be surprised if it ends up in the Halperin collection. It will be a crazy and fun auction to watch from the sidelines.

I'll throw my hat in the ring with 500 on black cat and 225 on the other one.    I think the best direct comp to these is the Chamber of Chills 19 cover that sold for 174k in 2020.

    https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/covers/lee-elias-chamber-of-chills-19-cover-original-art-harvey-1953-/a/7234-91009.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515

So this is the same comp that came to mind since it's the same type of classic image Black Cat is to comics. However, I think 250k is where this will fall roughly. I could be completely wrong, but I remember the talk when Chamber of Chills was coming up for sale. A lot of collectors were saying 500-750k. When that auction ended many said it was such a deal. If it was, I feel like plenty of offers would have been made, but when you look at the listing, there aren't any pending/rejected.

  6. At this point, you've put it out there and brought some attention to the situation. Not much more you can do at this point. At the end of the day he will see your information and feel how he feels about the piece (which you can't change) and the community will decide what they feel is the "legitimate piece". You could ask him to change his description or talk to his friends but I wouldn't expect much from that.

I don't get this one. You could by 3 good Hellboy covers for that. It's really cool, and all, but if you're going to spend that kind of money on a Mignola, you want Hellboy. Just my opinion, FWIW.

The result is high, but you're getting one of Mignola's best drawing pieces from a prime era. It's by far the best Dracula image there is. For context, I don't care much for the Dracula comic but I threw 40k at it in hopes of taking it down because it is an amazing example. I agree that for the money I'd also rather have Hellboy but I felt that way with the Death in the Family cover results. You could buy a couple of good vintage Hellboy covers for this price, but for the same dollar amount, you couldn't take down one of the best Hellboy covers at this point.

I think Bill (William) Woo was the last person I know for sure owned it. It was never a secret, and was or still is on his CAF gallery. It's a cool cover, but is somewhat odd in composition. I used to own a killer half splash from FF 55 (where the Thing punches Silver Surfer out of Alicia's house). Traded it away unfortunately.

Not sure if the current owner is public knowledge, but I got to see the cover in person about a year and a half ago at a collector's house. It's a cool piece. Gotta agree with you on the composition.

A surprising low result for one of the most memorable pieces from Byrne’s Champions run. Somehow it feels as if it flew under a lot of collectors’ radars!

Where do you think this should have landed at? I wasn't aware of the previous sale but thought it was worth 35k

I know why people avoid the brothers but what's the beef with the guy from Boston?

I've bought from Bechara twice over the years. Even though my last interaction left a sour taste in my mouth I may buy again depending on what it is. Not to get into it, but I was offered a piece and the price kept changing with the end result being 2x from what I was originally told.

  11. To follow up on my previous comment. About 5 weeks ago I ordered a cover from Paolo. He was very responsive for a couple of days when I wanted to purchase the piece, but after payment was made it was radio silence on when the art would ship. After 3 weeks of sending an email a week, I contacted the artist for advice. I was suggested to do whatever I felt was needed to receive the art or money back. At the 4-week mark I opened a PayPal claim for a full refund. It took the full 7 days without any fighting or prolonging the claim from Paolo's end. This afternoon was the 7th day of the claim being opened with PayPal siding with me. The artist said if they receive the art back from Cadence I can purchase it from them. If that ever happens I'll do another update.

Plus, at 30 you want to live a little. Congrats on being 30 and buying a house. That has gone from 'challenging' to 'practically impossible' in the past few years - you are one of the fortunate ones to have locked that in. Good on you for gettin' it done.

Thank you! The timing was perfect and I live in a smaller tourist town so prices weren’t insane yet. My neighbor, who has a similar layout to mine, just sold theirs for 140k more than what I paid. If I were in the market today it would have been practically impossible without selling off some of the best pieces in my collection.
