Kinda funny that people call it the "Rosen" variant considering that guy never existed. The marketing for the Sentry was awesome. Also, makes sense that the Rosen (actually also a Jae Lee cover) was an incentive variant and the SDCC was a show variant. The Rosen is a much cooler cover IMO and goes with the marketing theme they went for with it being a lost character that they discovered in an old filing cabinet. This series is one of my absolute favorites. I own the OA for the #2 and #3 covers.

I think the "Rosen" variant was drawn by John Romita Sr. In fact, not to give myself any credit at all, but I think I knew it was a farce from the start since the doctored "Artie Rosen" sketch in Wizard was very obviously late stage Romita Sr, that I mostly chalked up to a Wizard gag. The SDCC variant is by Lee though- I actually like that one better with all the pulpy blue printing dots, the incentive is just one of those white background things Marvel liked to do a la Ultimate Spider-Man 1, but to each his own.

I hadn't noticed that Sentry 1 was crazy again.  Prob for a bit.

Surprising part for me is the flip flop of interest for Cover B over the San Diego Comic Con version.  Anyone know what's driving that?

One of the 1st books that I enjoyed so much I bought quite a few copies when it came out (was still buying via mail service!).

I love all of the covers, so no real horse in the game.

Is Sentry really heating up beyond the CBSI list though? They seem to artificially inflate the market and people just believe it. But if true that's a shame, I have 2 of the SDCC variant. I'd think that would be more as I recall it wasn't too easy to find when it came out. Story of my life- always a day late and a dollar short (or always a bridesmaid, never a bride, I guess).

Distributor ink refers to the printing process or over spray from the printer, is my understanding. So if its "distributor ink" it's most likely to have happened at manufacturing and cgc shouldn't count against it  :) when it's being graded (thumbsu

For sure, thanks. I just have no idea what's going on with this book though as I don't know what a "normal" distributor ink mark looks like.

Except the 5th print was under 50K, so why would folks care about an 8th print with a significantly larger one? 75K is yuuuuuuge for a late print like this. between all the different prints there are a lot of #1s floating around. that this

Sure, late prints of TNMT 1 and Bone 1 are now worth something, but it took a loooong time and those titles have some staying power. Why is the 8th print selling for $15-20? Save your money and buy the first print. the frison variant is gorgeous and is still often under $150.

I paid double cover for the Frison variant when release week because I thought it would be worth more and passed on the regular, still salty at the store for doing that when they were in equal ratios. Is the regular that much more valuable and desirable? Don't know why this one is left in the dust since it's technically a first print.

Looks like distributer ink to me. Although it looks a bit odd. One little dot like that

If it is then it shouldn't affect the grade on this book.

I think it's like a marker someone used on the top, be it a distributor or vendor. Check out the back cover. In any event I was just curious if that particular book went over or under the price it should be. Is it 6.5 before the ink? I don't know about that.

  6. I didn't really want to make a new topic but there isn't really a bronze general discussion. How much does a small marker stain on top affect the grade and value? For this auction as an example, seller says it would be a 6.5-7 with a press. I have no idea if it went for more than it was worth based on the present info, looks reasonable otherwise but that marker ain't coming off...

Actually youre both right and wrong. I did some digging. Here’s what actually happened. Tynion dropped his news letter on January 20th, 2020. If you go read that letter, he says the first full appearance is going to be Batman #92 and that Hell Arisen 3 is Punchlines second cameo. On February 7th, 2020, DC officially puts out a press release saying Hell Arisen 3 is a “First Full Appearance”. This press release that disputes Tynion’s claim of Hell Arisen 3 being another cameo came out AFTER FOC for the book. So I mixed up Tynion’s Letter with DC’s official correction of the info within his blog. This led to mass confusion and people freaking out due to FOC for the book already having passed, driving the book to reach sales on EBay prior to release that we’re pretty nutty. The reason it was under ordered is because everyone was going by Tynions news letter and thought Hell Arisen 3 was just another cameo, and no one was buying the first two issues of Hell Arisen on top of that as it was a low print, fart in the wind mini series so barely any of #3 were ordered and THIS is what caused the shortage. It was so bad that many believed Tynion intentionally lied about Hell Arisen 3 being her first full in order to create More Hype for a book that he knew would have a quarter of the print run of Batman TOPS, if that. So I was wrong in that Tynions letter DID come out prior to that FOC, you are absolutely correct on this and thank you for correcting me on this as it drove me to go back over it all. he simply gave inaccurate info within it that everyone took at face value. But you are incorrect in that it had anything to do with people thinking she wouldn’t be worth it. Batman 89’s insane sales prove exactly the opposite. It was all about Tynions news letter and the info within that caused the mass under ordering of the book. I mean Hell Arisen 3 has been the hottest single book of both 2020 and 2021. Nothing has come out since that generated that kind of hype and I don’t know that you’ll see something so similar anytime soon as with Tynion giving bad info, it was the perfect storm. It’s more likely that Tynion thought Hell Arisen 3 actually would end up being considered a cameo. He simply was mistaken in that regard as the market and CGC said otherwise.

I get what you're saying, I meant that people were unprepared to spec on Punchline even with advance knowledge. I mean, *I* snapped them up before FOC based on the rumor just in case, but I'm sure it wasn't the home run to other people the 'warnings' seemed to indicate it would be. They learned their lesson and now even the slightest whisper of something makes it sold out before the on sale date.

I do recall the Hell Arisen 3/Batman 89 thing was about equal as I tried to get both at the same time; I don't think it was a matter of everyone went all in on Bats 89, and were caught with their pants down on HA 3. Matter of fact, I think I thought 89 was the 'rare' one and HA 3 was an also-ran dud until you said something just now.

Batman 89 was heavily ordered. Not talking about the Punchline one shot. I’m referring to her first full appearance: Hell Arisen #3. 35k print run, most of the run damaged with dull knife, and every shop under ordered or didn’t order at all because Tynion didn’t drop the news about her being in that book until after FOC for Hell Arisen #3. People lined up outside shops trying to get a copy. It was a spec wet dream, really. WB picked up the rights to use her on tv and film and she’s a really hot char for DC. But the buy in on a 9.8 is around 400 now and it’s only going up so I’m not sure it’s worth it to get in now unless you have the cash. Her book will only increase though. Hottest new char of the last couple years

Not to be contrary but it was announced before FOC, people just didn't think the character was going to be what it became. I know for sure because I got it before FOC based on a Bleeding Cool article, which was reporting Tynion's newsletter. Of course, that was when DCBS was a little nicer so they may have just done a re-order for me; they seem to have changed management and gotten super anal/snotty about that thing, not willing to even try for a re-order with a week in between email replies now.

Re: MCP 72 - Probably a lot of spec that Disney will make a film or series around Weapon X. There were some articles a week or so ago. All of which hit a day or so after I sold a couple copies for around $20 each. :tonofbricks:

I honestly think when they do Wolvie, they'll skip Weapon X entirely a la Spider-Man's origin. We saw that and Major Stryker done to death in the previous series, it feels like they showed him getting the claws 4 different times!

  10. Does this seem like shill bidding to anybody else?

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/333968525692?hash=item4dc213497c:g:BeUAAOSwBC1gf2fY

For context, the comic is in horrible condition (see the cuts along the right side of the front), but with three days to go it's already higher than the other NM copies up for bid. An unequivocally better copy ending sooner sits at 60 atm. I could see *maybe* it getting a burst at the last minute, but as this stage? There's only two bidders at present pushing it up, one of which has zero feedback. Very suspect.

It's already bearing major fruit if you look at the prices of Silk keys. IMO at least. I have been picking up her first app around $100 copies and have 5 9.8 candidates. And her first solo story in Silk 1 2015 is cashing in right around $30 pretty consistently right now and I bought my copies way under cover price. Those books I picked up between $80-$120 would probably go for $225+ raw right now and if even one comes back 9.8 I've done well. Really think I'll get a few 9.8s out of them.

We'll see. I like a lot of the Spider-characters because we know Sony wants to develop stuff related to the Spider-Man license they have that doesn't feature Spider-Man himself. Venom has already been a hit. They're working on Morbius and Kraven movies, both confirmed(I can't stockpile ASM #15 but I do have 2 copies, one to sell, and I've been picking up any part of Kraven's Last Hunt I see at a good price... think there will be at least a small jump on those because IMO there aren't many good Kraven stories but we'll see). AFAIK there have been persistent rumors about Sony wanting to develop one or more properties around the women in the Spider-Man universe.... we've heard rumors about Black Cat, Madame Webb, Spider-Girl, Arana, Silver Sable, Jackpot of all characters... and Silk. The prevailing rumor on her right now is that there is an Amazon show about Silk in development. I certainly don't know if that's true but I think all of those first apps are great plays. My #194's are taking off like crazy right now, wish I could hold them a bit longer but trying to stretch for a major key soon so they must go go go lol

I meant the solo series or anything other than her first app. I can see her making an appearance in Spider-verse 2 or whatever, but I have time seeing her in a solo project. I have a REALLY hard time seeing a Madame Web or Kraven movie ever happening. I'm gutted Sony is insisting on that instead of making him the big bad of SM3- he's the last 'major' villain or Sinister Six member that hasn't been a main villain of a Spider-film. I have not seen ASM 265 or 194 jump at all lately (and I own both), but we'll see.

Maybe Cates was thinking he cared more about the story than whether people were speculating on a book.

I'm actually shocked it dropped as much as it did. Do people really think Knull will never return? Really? Plus Dylan is separate from Venom #3 spec. I can't think of a single other book that has dropped since last year. Even unfounded spec like Monstress or whatever will be permanently raised on every comic site/ebay/dealer wall.

  13. Finally got Darth Vader 3 in a 9.2. Eh. It's alright, it's no 9.8 but I wanted to get one before it got any more expensive, and also not break the bank. I do feel it's a book that won't somehow take a huge hit like the Donny Cates Venom stuff inexplicably has, because let's face it Disney will probably use her for SOMETHING instead of make up a random character someday.

I'm always curious to see what people have that they might have to sit on for a year or three to maybe turn around. I personally like a lot of the Marvel Now stuff and have been picking that up for a while. Spider-Gwen's first solo book, Sam Alexander Nova's first solo, Silk's first solo, have been grabbing Miles' first solo since the first Spider-verse movie, I have so many copies and variants of Champions V2 #1... stuff like that. Is there anything that you think may be coming down the road in the MCU that you've been picking up for a while? Is anyone buying up DC while their books seem to be responding significantly less to the overall hot market? I've been picking at my Batman run here and there, I may regret not going more after those while the getting was good...

Does anyone enjoy speculation? Hate it? I love the books and the stories and many of my favorite books are worthless(Spider-Man(1990) #75!, Osborn Journals) but the buy sell trade elements of the hobby also provide me with a ton of entertainment :cloud9:

I still think Spider-Man 75 is awesome. I like the Clone Saga in general but even though I hate Howard Mackie's writing, I thought Howard and Romita Jr. knocked it out of the park on that one.

I don't know about something worthless that'll one day hit pay dirt, but things I feel can get a big bump years down the road might be Secret Wars, Batman Beyond '99 mini, Totally Awesome Hulk, Dark Avengers, etc. I agree on the Marvel Point One and Champions books. I'm far less convinced about the Silk spec ever bearing fruit, or the New Agents of Atlas thing. Of course the way the market works now, if they made Spider-Man 3 today, that one Peter Parker Romita Jr. issue with Sandman and Venom teaming up would somehow become $50+ overnight...

I ordered this comic because I like reading and collecting Batman stuff.  My son loves Fortnite so I figured it would be a cool thing to add to the collection and pass off to him.  I had no clue there were skins included or that people were selling them for $25-$40.

I got the first issue because I thought that would be the only one that would pop. I wonder if 2-6 will be as much? Wish I had ordered them too.

    It's a Disney+ series, so it might be a one-season affair.

I haven't read it but I have the 8 issues + variants. Could they tell whole story in about 8 episodes?

Just announced: Emilia Clarke from "Game of Thrones" is set to join the cast

Any idea what character she might be playing?

Maybe Veranke the Skrull Queen. I think Spider Woman is tied up with Sony or the Olivia Wilde solo film.

Captain America #25 Is popping and will probably go nuclear Friday.

    Cap 25 Fleabay

Department of Truth #1 is selling well.

    Department #1 Fleabay

    Uncanny X-men #282

    Uncanny Fleabay

It is so weird how these things work. Cap 25 popped the first week, then I got a so-so copy for $10 down the line. I then got a NM about a year ago on a well known mail order site from the back issues, it was just sitting there for less than cover and nobody wanted it. Now it's heating up again. Why couldn't I ever get a cheap copy of something like Teen Titans 12, or whatever? None of it makes any sense how the market cools and then increases tenfold.
