  1. I was always in love with Joannie. Sad how things ended: addicted to drugs and died in a trailer. The news said heart attack, but hinted at OD.
  2. I cull thru these reports and try to separate the wheat from the chaff. It’s still interesting and informative. There are spots that strike me as manipulative, but I read em anyway. I think you may be in a better position than most to spot the manipulation
  3. Regrettably, no. It was a long, strange story involving Robert roter at Pacific Comic Exchange (PCE).
  4. I owned an Action 1 in the 1980’s. Bought it for under $7k and sold it for under $20k. Today I’m not willing to do what it takes to reacquire the book, and this checks the box for me today
  5. Of course there’s room. My enthusiasm presumes the books were so far gone that there was no loss to the world by removing a page from the rubble. Beyond that, this is a philosophical discussion I’ll leave to others
  6. There are a lot of posts about single pages scattered across the boards, but I have found no thread dedicated to them. That makes the hunt for these posts a bit problematic. I myself have talked about my belief that as keys grow more expensive, people will more and more resort to the collecting of single pages. But there’s another dimension to the pursuit of single pages. Even for those lucky enough to own a key book, it’s usually going to be slabbed and therefore impossible to see the interior. In order to enjoy the book, maybe we satisfy ourselves with a reprint. personally, I find the collection of single pages to be another way to bring a slabbed key to life. So, let this thread be safe haven for those of us who possess single pages. Let’s see your single pages. ill start . . .
  7. Funny. As memorable as the cover is to USA 7, I never realized he handled the interior art as well
  8. There’s a lot to unpack here. first of all, an artistic team of Jerry Siegel and Alex schomburg? I would never have imagined such a thing. second of all, it seems apparent that Alex schomburg’s brilliance shone more brightly in his cover work than in his interior work. Or maybe that’s too limited a view. Maybe his brilliance shone more brightly in WWII war themes than in romance/intrigue.
  9. does anyone here collect arrowheads? does anyone know anyone who collects arrowheads? I know this is off topic, but I'm curious
  10. I get that, and I respect that. But there have been some books that have been hot for so long (think Cap 3), that his reluctance is hard to understand.
  11. Hey @SOTIcollector. Until I read your post, I didn’t truly realize that Wertham’s poison-pill message got into so much mainstream media. I now can better understand why my parents threw out my collection(and created the monster you see here today). Until now, I regarded his antics as just history. Now, my feelings against the guy just got a lot more real. I understand that some books maybe were a bit too much for some kid’s sensibilities, but Wertham’s approach painted all books with too broad of a brush, and I lost a ton of late 50’s Detectives.
  12. I first posted this under “Water Cooler”, but it wasn’t getting much notice. I am hoping to hear the thoughts of others as to where Overstreet is missing the boat. My motivation is probably mostly focused on Planet Comics, but surely there are other pockets of inaccuracies. What do you guys see? oh, here is my original post: Just got mine. The usual suspects got some small bumps - like lower grade Cap 1 and Bat 1 and pre-Robin tecs. I’m a little surprised there was such little movement on Cap 3, and NO movement on Planets. Why no movement on Planets? Maybe I’m the only one who likes em. Here’s another thing surprised me. AA 16 slipped ahead of Batman 1 in the Top 100 Golden Age comics. AA 16 is now #4, and Bat 1 dropped back to #5. I realize the final hammer is days away, but in the upcoming Heritage auction, AA 16 is currently losing to a lower grade Bat 1. How about you guys? What changes do you see? What changes don’t you see that you would have expected?
  13. No love for Planets in the 50th Overstreet Guide. Or maybe it’s just mine there’s no love for
