  1. As long as no deception is being attempted, I think it's kind of neat when a piece is in multiple CAF galleries. It can let you trace ownership and often tells an interesting story.
  2. I heard $10,000 but I'm not certain. Whatever the price was, it would have been a give away to most here it wasn't the original - not too hard to imagine someone less informed on the OA market thinking it was the real deal though.
  3. This article says there was a misunderstanding and that he returned it. https://bleedingcool.com/comics/donny-cates-did-not-buy-original-cover-art-to-miracleman-1-after-all/
  4. Thanks Felix! That's some great background. I was shocked when I saw the images of it on Albert's wall at NYCC - I wouldn't expect such a prestigious piece to be sold any where other than auction. I hope Cates knows what he bought and enjoys the heck out of it. It's definitely an incredibly well done recreation.
  5. This would be really disappointing too. I'd feel really bad for him.
  6. That's disappointing. Almost as disappointing as Cates' tweet seeming to imply he bought the original...
  7. I agree the other cover/splash is better, but it seems reprint covers always go for less than main covers due to wide recognition of the main covers. I would expect this to go for more.
  8. Yes. This is why. I believe Mike and Felix have both explicitly stated they do this. You used to not be able to find Felix commission costs and other non-drop sales in CAF dealer data. Now they're all there. Re: quality of entries on ComicArtTracker - I find it's gotten pretty useless for big name artists like Jack Kirby, Frazetta, etc. So many listings use their names on non-related items that the CAT results aren't very helpful. I've still found it helpful for less renowned artists - there are just fewer hits because their body of work is smaller and thus comes up for sale less often. But when there is a result, it's a real piece.
  9. I heard from multiple folks that $2.5M was turned down, so I'm assuming it was for more. But everything is just hearsay how this has been handled. Really frustrating moment for OA that could've been a true milestone.
  10. Do we know if the cover sold? 9/15 was the cut-off, right?
  11. Venom: LP pages are really heating up. Ok Venom action pages seem to be $5-10k now. No Venom on this one, but I'm sure 1st app spec makes up for it.
  12. Oh man, it would be really sad to see these broken up. I really hope whoever they end up with is an excellent caretaker.
  13. Can vouch for the value of premium + market data. The market data is one of the few ways to pull legitimate comps for pieces.
  14. Why does it matter what the complete issue is worth if you're never going to break it up?
  15. I don't have an art wall yet, but I'm working on setting one up and thought this might be a good thread to get opinions before I commit to anything. The wall should be able to hold 24 pieces if I want. I have 16 covers I know I want to display together, but wouldn't mind displaying more pieces. The installation will be semi-permanent - each piece will have 3 anchors; 2 on top and one on the bottom to prevent misalignment. I'll be able to switch pieces around, but the mounts on the wall won't be able to be moved. All my art will be framed in the same size frames allowing for standardization and switch outs. All that said, I've prototyped the 3 attached layouts so far. Curious what others think of this or if there are other layouts folks would suggest. I think there are a lot of pros and cons at play with anyway I put this together.
  16. I feel bad this is distracting me from the fantastic art, but how do you use that electrical outlet near the ceiling and whatever would it be for?
  17. Tradd Moore is generally considered the most desirable modern artist among original art collectors. Everyone obviously has their own preferences, but I feel his work is absolutely extraordinary. Here are some other examples of his work. These are splashes, but happy to share sequential examples too if storytelling is in question.
  18. Not sure many would agree with that assessment.
  19. Daniel Warren Johnson, Geoff Shaw, Tradd Moore, Gerardo Zaffino, and Dylan Burnett.
  20. The comp being used here has to be the pre-snap Perez page which sold on ComicLink a few months back for 31k. As far as I'm aware, that is a record for a IG page public sale. Perez + page before the snap make the ComicLink page worlds more desirable than this page. Likely just an attempt to leverage the sales of better pages and the movies to try and move the goal posts for the market again. This one is so out of line though that I sincerely doubt it will succeed.
  21. For somebody out there, the Gaiman sig + sketch is going to mean a lot. If you ever sell, definitely send to auction. Most all private offers will likely ascribe no value to the sketch.
  22. Thanos #17 cover by Geoff Shaw. Homage to Steranko's famous Hulk Annual #1 cover.
  23. I sold a piece in one of their auctions and it took a month+ to get the check. They're definitely backlogged, as most collectibles related venues are nowadays with the rise in popularity of collectibles.
  24. A few massive adds this week for me: Cosmic Ghost Rider #3 Cover by Geoff Shaw Thanos #17 Complete Issue by Geoff Shaw My collection is heavily focused on Cosmic Ghost Rider and Shaw's work on the character, so these are enormously meaningful additions to me. Thanos #17 might be the best issue from the arc which introduced Cosmic Ghost Rider. It's hard to imagine a bigger addition to my collection. I've included images of some of the best pages from Thanos #17, but check out the links above to see the full issue and additional details.
