  1. It never went live. I don't know anymore than that though. Would love to hear more details as to why it didn't go live.
  2. I think 5k-6k is the floor for "C" pages (is anything a C page in this book?). "A" level interior pages are in the 10k-20k range. I remember Felix mentioning the last page of issue 5 re-sold for 5 figures privately post-drop, I've seen asks for at least one DPS that sold privately, and I know the offers I've turned down for my page (Issue #5, Page 1). I wouldn't be shocked if the "A" pages are moving north of that range. edit: clarified that the sales I know of were private sales post-drops

  4. That's a fair point. It's interesting that the floor seems higher and ceiling lower than comic art.
  5. I find it incredibly hard to imagine someone seriously interested in this piece wouldn't have bid at auction out of principle. I guess people have done weirder things, but blowing your one chance at a $150k+ piece you'd pay $250k for because it's at auction seems wild to me. I kind of feel the MtG Art FB group is just trying to legitimize a narrative as to why this iconic piece should be worth more than $168k.

  7. There are over 20,000 different cards with somewhere around 1,000 likely added each year. Your point is probably still valid though; much more than 1,000 pages of comic art are produced a year. A good portion of Magic art has also shifted to digital, not unlike comic art. Scarcity and media (i.e.; paint) are likely what creates the high floor. There are often sketches available for less, but those are usually prelims.
  8. The Magic art market is interesting. The floor for decent pieces is much, much higher than OA from what I've seen. This could be because most decent pieces are paintings, but it's hard to get in for less than $3,000. There are also a lot of pieces that sell for 10's of thousands of dollars right out the gate. Particularly art for lands and some artifacts.
  9. I’m not familiar with the specifics, but I know they are not ideal for indefinite storage like Mylar is. My bigger issue with them is they tend to fit 11x17 art way too tightly. It can be difficult to place and remove the art safely. If I’m spending $500+ on something, I’m not going to hesitate spending the $10 it costs for the guaranteed protection solution of a Mylar and board.
  10. I've heard that too. Thus book fairs. I can't imagine they stop all or even most printed material entirely. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are some of the world's biggest IPs. You have to do more than movies and merch with them.

My interpretation of the speculation is DC is planning to focus future printed materials on graphic novels for sale through book stores, book fairs, etc and will end the production of monthly single issues. This feels like a long time coming as the demand has generally shifted that direction for the last several years. I think this will make it much easier to market and sell products and will generally be a boon for comic readership long term. I think it will be miserable for LCS's and potentially comic collectors. I think it will be somewhere between good and irrelevant for OA. Art will still be produced and the characters are still massive IPs with enormous demand for content and collectibles. I think it could catalyze the comic collecting populace to move into OA as they lose modern singles as a collectible. It may also drive up the market for out of print or original printing collected editions - which I believe has already been going up over the years. It seems unbelievable to me they would cease the production of all comic media entirely. I expect they view the comics as a ripe opportunity for a new business model.
  12. It's been a little while since I've posted here or to CAF! Have quite a few pieces left to share, but thought I'd start with these. I've been a big fan of Marco Rudy's unique work ever since I randomly happened upon a page on CAF from his Bucky run. Each page is fully painted and completely eschews traditional paneling. I absolutely love these trippy, colorful Doctor Strange action pages from the 2014 New Avengers annual. I bought these to support Marco's recently funded Kickstarter. The Kickstarter is over now, but I definitely encourage you to check it out to see some more of Marco's work.

  16. I think the fear is if he can see pieces users have posted to CAF but not made active and/or private purchase price info entered for pieces. Not sure it stresses me much at all, but do think it'd be kind of lame to give someone access to what is portrayed as private data (even if not legally private).
  17. Great event! I thought the second art drop and the save feature were great. I missed out by a couple minutes on the only piece that got my interest, but I had fun browsing. I really enjoyed the Tradd/Felix panel and the shout out of sorts from Felix for the SSB page I own. I think the one thing I’d like next time is some sort of social feature. It’d be really fun to connect with other collectors like one would at a con. Maybe a discord server or chat function during the event?

  19. I'm curious what the more experienced collectors here think the staining could have been caused by. That's more severe than sunlight damage from being hung on a wall for 50 years, right?
  20. It sounds like your friend doesn’t know it yet, but he is the one Disney guy. That’s why it’s so important to invest in quality. Quality pieces always sell. Middle of the road pieces need the right buyer. Quality = liquidity.
  21. General consensus will be to leave as is. Some people really care about word balloons on OA, so you'll be diminishing the value by altering it in any way.

If I'm well off enough to buy something so much a luxury as comic art, I can only hope I'm well off enough by the time I pass that the sale of the art will be relatively insignificant to the well-being of any I leave behind. As long as my loved ones are cared for, I can't imagine anywhere better for the art to go then a museum. Again, this is all predicated on the assumption that museums of the future will care about comic art (I think they will) and more specifically, Cosmic Ghost Rider (a much more dubious proposition).
  23. This is exactly how I feel. I'm not sure the world is going to care about Cosmic Ghost Rider in 40 years, but if they do, museum is definitely near the top of my exit strategies list.
  24. How much do the other WW head shots go for? I'm definitely not the best to advise on the Timm market, but my gut reaction is it would price at just above the typical head shot. I would not expect the shading to elevate it to a higher tier, but rather would differentiate the piece against similar pieces in the same tier.
