  1. Sold two years ago on Black Line Fever for $1050, now up on Will's Comic Art Page for $8050.
  2. Just got this Alexis Ziritt Doom Patrol commission. I asked for Sixties Doom Patrol, very pleased he went with this homage to the cover of #89.
  3. I don't know that alienating of other potential buyers matters much to the dealers to be honest. The moment I got really turned off the claim sales was during one of the amateur dueling dealer battles where pretty much every reasonably priced piece was snapped up by a dealer. It really undermined the spirit of the whole thing as far as I was concerned. Also, while I doubt any show would care to implement a "no dealers" policy, it's not like it would be impossible. Felix has asked dealers not to buy pieces in his art drops and presumably he's serious about it.
  4. Agreed with this. I'm not wealthy, and am likely forever out of the market for most Silver and Bronze art of note. That said there's still plenty of fun stuff under the radar within my price range, and there's still lots of cool new artists on the rise whose work I like and am happy to add to my collection. All a matter of perspective and taste.
  5. He also wrote Silver Surfer Black which I recall was a big deal 'round these parts...
  6. That's lovely! Yeah, he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who half-asses things.
  7. Wow! I've been waiting for DWJ's commision list to reopen for a minute. Super curious how this will effect the pricing, or if he'll even be doing standard commissions going forward.
  8. I mean I'm just gonna say it: it's easy for people plugged in to the OA market to know at a glance how and why there's no way this would be the original cover for MM #1 at the price, but most comics fans have no visibility into this market unless they are collectors themselves. Ask a non-oa collector comics fan how much they think something like the original piece would cost and I'm sure you'd get guesses as low as a few k. Should Cates have done some more due diligence before being ready to eff around and drop 10k? Absolutely. But it's not like he's an insufficiently_thoughtful_person for thinking there was a possibility this was the original at the price, especially given the hyper-inflation in the market over the course of the pandemic. Just my two cents.
  9. I bought this piece from Dean Motter and Michael Lark's Terminal City way back in 2003 at Comicon. Always enjoyed the comic, and thought this was a memorable moment from it.
  10. I support Evan Dorkin and it's like a firehose of content; current work in progress, older pitches for animation work and comics projects, stories, some general musings. He has been very forthright about how much Patreon has helped him and his family out, and I'm happy to offer him the support for all the laughs he's given me over the years.
  11. From what I understand Kelley Jones doesn't let much of his original art go, is that a factor here as well?
  12. Sandman pages aren't exactly easy to come by, and with the show well into production I'd say chances are this will go up quite a lot between now and whenever the first episode airs.
  13. I could be nuts, but it seems to me as an idle viewer that the majority of the art sold is purchased by the same handful of buyers. Can that be sustainable? Is it possible this entire model is being propped up by a few well to do collectors?
  14. I'd like to think if the person was passionate they wouldn't have made the $625 counteroffer and risked losing the deal over a matter of $25, but I guess it could have been an in-the-moment reaction.
  15. The thought had crossed my mind that I might try to sell a few things while the market was hot to make a run at a grail piece... but that was tempered by the realization that if all art is going up ludicrously, I'm no better off selling-to-buy now than when/if things calm down.
  16. No danger of anyone getting a sunburn after that move, because it was some serious shade.
  17. Very happy to add the title page from the recent Morbius: Bond of Blood one shot by Tom Reilly to my collection. I love Tom's stuff, and classic Morbs, so this was a no brainer.
  18. Any thoughts on the two Y: The Last Man pages going for $1900 and $1800 respectively? They're both nice pages with Yorrick on them from early in the series, but that price seems to be unprecedented. TV show bump?
  19. 100%. The instantaneous sell through when they did one of the recent amateur dealers was due to the excellent price to quality ratio of the pieces on offer. Of course half the pieces went immediately to dealers who were buying them sight unseen to add to their inventory, which left a bad taste in my mouth.
  20. The one I had high bid on tripled in the last ten seconds. Hard to feel bad about it when you were never really in the race to begin with.
  21. So pleased to add this page from Seth Fisher's two issues of Doom Patrol volume 3 to the collection. After reading it so many times over the years it's a trip to get to look at the art up close and see Seth's crazy level of detail.
  22. I'm small time as colectors go, and no expert, but here's how I think about it: Do some research on the people you're looking to buy from - you can find mounds of threads on message boards and FB groups for pretty much every dealer of note out there, and if they're known for doing anything hinky, you'll read about it quick. Also consider the nature of the piece and the price being asked. Most faker/forgers depend on the ignorance (and sometimes greed) of their marks to rip them off, so if something seems like a total grail at a too good to be true price, ask yourself why no other big fish collector has snapped it up yet. Be very wary of unpublished pieces labeled as sketches and pinups. These are favorites of fakers. If you're unsure about the legitimacy of a piece, post here and ask. Lastly, relax. Most panel page art on the marketplace is legit.
