I’m not sure about DC’s decision to rerelease these s-shield covers. There are so many copies of the originals out there that comic shops can’t even give them away, even 30 years later.

I assume these are die-cut covers like the originals?

Yeah, they are pretty much the style same book but I have the orginals and I have to have these as well.  It's not about resell value, it's about having "all of them"  in the collection.  Stuff comes in and it goes into "The Collection"  Even if I buy something with the intention of reselling it for a bit of a profit, I just end up keeping it.  Having it brings me more joy than selling it ever would.

I can understand why DC wants to look back though, the current Superman books struggle to tell a decent story and the art is pretty bad with "artists" turning in rough sketches and calling it a style. (See Action Comics, Last Azreal series for examples)  To me, if I could draw it with my wrong hand that's also fractured, it shouldn't be getting published.  There is a lot wrong with current books that make many wish for the WAY better days of the 1990's.

Hello!  I picked up some of the Death of Supes 30th Anniversary issues but am not “planning” on continuing down the rabbit hole with the Return 30th Anniversary issues… will see if anything pops up for sale already graded 9.8 that I can’t resist 😁

Check out the last few pages of my Custom Set’s Gallery to see a few if you want.  Link here:

    Thanks for the tag @ADAMANTIUM!

Yeah, I'm a sucker for their marketing.  Marking the 30th year of something that I was around for when it actually happend.  I'm not a fan of the price tag per book but no one said that collecting comics made sense. I'm buying variants raw and getting them CGC'd in my next shipment. Hoping for high scores but you never know, I've been getting a lot of 9.6's on books that I was sure would be 9.8's.

    Thanks for sharing the Link.

  3. So it's been 30 years since the Return of Superman storyline, DC continues to milk the start of the 90's Golden Age of Comics for all it's worth with this most recent release.  As they marked the Death and Reign anniversary issues already.

So who is picking this up?  I'm buying the main plus variants but I have to say I'm a little annoyed at the $15.09 CND price tag per issue.  But as they say you have to pay to play.  I'm planning on sending an issue or two off to get CGC'd hoping to get a 9.9 score just because I have never submitted a book and had it returned with that score.

Just nerve racking to send your comics off for weeks and have to not worry that you will get it back. Just nervous i guess

A quote I always remind myself of when I'm waiting for books to come back.

'The soufflé will either rise or it won't — there's not a damn thing you can do about it, so you might as well just sit back and wait and see what happens."

  5. You have to keep a sense of humour when it comes to selling stuff on Ebay.  Yes, lowball offers can be annoying but at the same time it's part of the song and dance  What bothers me is when people post a low price on Ebay  but then jack up the shipping and handling cost to get the actual price that they want for the item/book.

  6. I'm not an expert but I think you should be fine if you store your slabs in a cool and dry area that is away from direct sunlight.  If you are worried about scratches or scuffs on the plastic I would put them in an unsealed plastic bag with peices of thin foam between each CGC graded book. You should also take extra care whenever you are moving or handling the books.  As someone mentioned above if CGC offered a special UV protective option that would be awesome. Anyway, I hope this helps.

I'm in EXACTLY the same boat.  I loved tracking my CGC collection on GoCollect, but that's no longer a free service  :(

CLZ is an excellent app that works with GoCollect but they have been having some issues with updates, etc so GoCollect might be going bye bye.  Anyways, my advice drop the $1.99 per month for the CLZ subscription.  It makes your collecting easier and it's a record of your collection if anything happens to it.

This is what the Google tells me:

"Polyethylene has a lower melting point compared to the higher melting point of polypropylene. ... Polypropylene is stiffer and resistant to chemicals and organic solvents compared to polyethylene. Polypropylene is pure, non-stretching and generally more rigid than polyethylene."

Does that make it better for comics? hm

Going off on a typo correction...Comic genius. Side note 15, 556 posts in 3 years...I'm guessing you don't get out much.

If your collection is all from the 20th century, or you want bags that you'll never have to change, then yes it is the case.

Re-bagging comics has a potential damaging factor that does not exist when you do not have to re-bag your comics.

They're "good enough" for uninformed or misinformed collectors, yes.

Your disagreement with factual information is duly noted.

-I hope wasting your money brings you increased enjoyment out of your comics

-"Uninformed or misinformed collectors" those are judgment calls on your part. Ones that most people try to avoid making I might add.

    - Have we determined the facts or have you just decided to present your opinion as "factual information"?

It's not a matter of disagreement. You can have your own opinion, but you cannot have your own facts. Another member has already given you factually correct information, which you have promptly disregarded. Why would I contribute the exact same message when you didn't listen the first time? His messages are concretely here for you to re-read.

My contribution: You're wrong, you've been told you're wrong once, and I am here to tell you that you're wrong a 2nd time.

-I never disputed that Mylar bags last longer, they do. However the disagreement was if it was worth the initial investment to purchase them for every comic book in your collection. It simply isn't the case.

-It was also stated that rebaging comics somehow damages comic books, unless a person is careless that is false.

-polyurethane comic bags are "good enough" for most comic book collectors for common books with replacement if deemed necessary by the collector.

    -I disagree with your contribution.

Look it, I wasn't trying to be disrespectful and you can disagree with me if you want, whatever it's your collection you can do what you want. However when you chime in on a thread and then refuse to give follow up information when engaged in the thread.  That sort of defeats the purpose of a discussion board.

You've already been corrected. Why would I bother trying to reason with someone unreasonable?

-You were given an opportunity to make your case and add to the conversation, you choose to forgo that opportunity. That's on you.

Posting the same nonsense over and over does not make it true

Mylar is over time cheaper and the books last longer

Your logic is flawed. But I don’t think your desire to have the last word is going to persuade anyone.  So have at it

-You seem to lack logic or understanding of what I've said to you.  Mylar is overkill.  You don't need your books to last 150 years.  The market just isn't there and more importantly you'll be dead so it won't matter.

Your point was money vs preservation.

Mylar is proven to offer better preservation and the money saved is negated by time spent rebagging - which I assume time is worth something.

If you are all about cheap, get the TPB

-My point was regarding allocation of resources, is every book in your collection worth the initial investment? No, they are not. Not every book has to be mint condition as the demand of the market simply will never be there.

-Mylar is over kill.  150 years from now no one be willing to pay big bucks for a common book that isn't noteworthy for some reason. As for time, collecting comics is a hobby that the time invested in it should be part that you enjoy, sometimes bagging, boarding, cataloging isn't a chore.

-Saving money on unnecessary Mylar bags for commons allows you to spend that money on larger ticket items. (Ex: Art works, Statues, Signature Series CGC)
