  1. I have been asked where this Tec 31 came from as they have never seen it before. Until about 30 days ago it sat in a box for the last 60 years along with other GA comics.

This and probably a low grade Sup #2 were the best comics in the box. They were bought by a friend of mine and he thought of me when he saw this comic.

Most of the comics have been sold already.

  2. Last year I was contacted about some comics and toys from the guy handling his deceased friends estate. Very sad the way he passed away. The article makes it sound like he could not afford to pay for his heat. I believe the Toys and comics belonged to his Dad.

From the items pulled from the house it's obvious he was sitting on a small fortune but was just a recluse. I remember seeing over 100 gallons of water, cases of MRE's and as the article states over 100 guns were discovered.

Here is a link to the article and a couple pics of the toys.

  3. I know Comic Link does not report to GPA but this year on GPA only one Cap #1 has sold. It was a restored 6.0 signature for $15K.

In comparison Batman #1 has 5 recorded GPA sales for 2011.

Back in 2010 unrestored Cap #1 had GPA sales of

4.5 OW/W 1 small piece of tape on interior cover. Sold $21,500. Decent price as guide at the time was $20,500

    Then a

6.5 OFF-WHITE (blue label) Very minor amount of color touch on cover. Very minor amount of glue on cover. Sold for $23,500. Not good as guide was $36,400. I'm sure CT and glue played a factor with the low price.

Now in the last few weeks a C-Link 6.5 has sold for $36,400 and this Cap #1 CGC 4.5 is already at a whopping $33,400 with over 2 weeks to go.

Plus the 9.2 now on Comic Connect could be off the charts when it finishes. (It will crush the Tec #33 9.2)

Is the uptick in price due to the Cap movie or are collectors starting to realize that Cap #1 is a relative bargain compared to other major GA #1's?

  4. I'm looking at a collection tomorrow that has a New Adv #22. Hopefully I'll have a scan in the next few days. :wishluck:

Small piece at top rt fc appears to be lightly glued back in place, top staple detached from cover.

Low grade but obviously a tough book to find in any grade.

A quick story about New Comics #1 that I picked up from an auctioneer in 1986 while I lived in Bakersfield CA.

I had shopped the comic around for trade of a low grade Batman #1. The New Comics #1 was a solid VF (yes it was) but had a top staple pull. This is a 3 staple comic.

At the time I contacted Fantasia (at the time he seemed legit) and we worked a deal for a 2.0 Bat #1 in even trade. I shipped the New Comics 1 and about 10 days later a mangled restored Batman 1 in 1.0 showed up.

I returned the Batman 1 expecting to get my comic back but a couple days later Fishler calls me and offers $1800. Guide was $1200 so I accepted.

I don't know how it went from Dupcak to Fishler and at the time didn't bother to ask

  5. What else was in the collection?

    Here is the story.

Apparently this could have been a monster collection but 70% of the older comics were destroyed by basement flooding. How the X-men 1 survived is not really known.

The guy who was the owner passed away and his sister was selling the comics. She contacted a friend who was knowledgeable in comics to help her sell.

Still available was about 12 long boxes of 70's and 80's comics but not in the best of shape that I passed on.

Probably about 150 1960's comics were to be had but they were expecting 75% of guide so I picked out a handful of comics, FF ann1, Avg 16, Secret Origins 1, Marvel Tales 2, Cap America 109, and Transformer 1-80 near complete.

  6. OK first off I found this thread without starting a new scanner thread. This may have already been discussed but here is my problem.

My problem is I just yesterday connected my new computer with windows 7 and it will act like it wants to scan but will not. You can hear it try to move a couple of times then quits and says "An error occurred while setting scanner properties"

It detected my HP C7710A as a HP 7400C series. The picture that it shows in the printers and devices area does not look like my scanner. I tried a scan and the screen with my scanner options looks totally different than with my old XP system when I would scan.

I then went to HP and loaded the program that automatically detects your HP devices. It said I need 7400C drivers. The 7490C looks more like my scanner but neither of these allow me to pick install for Windows 7 system. The page says if you don't see your system then HP does not support drivers for it.

Do I basically need to get a newer scanner? If so that is fine just point me to a good legal size scanner that is compatible with Windows 7.

    Any help is appreciated.

  8. Last October I sold purecomics72 an Avengers #1 which was never paid for. I emailed about the auction and got a reply from Greg Jortner saying that one of his buddies had bid on the comic and was sorry but he couldn't pay for it since he already had several Avenger #1's.

He then went into a spill about a great GA collection in east TN. that he needed $10K so his buddie who lived in Atlanta could go and get. I asked what was in the collection and he rattled off comics that would make the collection worth 100K+. I asked him why he didn't fly down to get the comics and he said the seller was strange and didn't want "no damn Yankees showing up at his door" thus the reason for the buddie in Atlanta to go get the comics. It was excuse after excuse why I couldn't go with the Atlanta buddy and get the comics. So, sorry to say I missed out on that deal. hm

Since I never sent any money he then wanted to know about other GA comics that I had for sale. He told me he worked for Silver Age Comics and he could pay guide prices on my comics. I gave him a list and sent some scans but the money offered on the comics never arrived.

I then noticed that Silver Age Comics had left him feedback on a few auctions and that purecomics72 was shilling Silver Age comics auctions. I filed a NPB alert and got credit in the Avengers #1 then reported the shill bidding to ebay but you all know what ebay does to shill bidders, nothing!

That's my dealing with Greg. If I had just sent him $10K then I would probably know Mr Zaid a lot better than I do. (thumbs u
