  1. Three for three I am on your books! Ya know I can just grade them for ya for cheaper
  2. The market is so wild right now because, and I mean this with no disrespect, but a lot of the "younger" collectors are not the brightest. Same for older collectors who stopped in the 90s but within the last decade have gotten back into comics. They see a movie announcement of some kind, bam, they buy that book. Little thought, just the hope for more money in terms of a sale down the road. These are the people who paid $35-50 for the first time Cap lifted Thor's hammer in Thor whatever issue it was when it happened in the movie. Those books you see alerted to you on whatever app or feature you use as having gone from dollar bin stuff to $15-20 books is ridiculous. I fear that too much of that could hurt the hobby when you have people who, 8 months later try to make a profit of such a book that is no longer worth that at all. Instead, this overpricing drives collectors towards other things and can serve as a deterrent for new collectors. A new collector or future collector upon reminiscing about the movie could be like "hey, that moment in the movie was cool, I want the comic" and find people trying to sell it for a crazy amount which only deters them from buying or getting into the hobby.
  3. A question I have... Do shop owners have a lot of young teens buying comics? Have they for the past couple decades? Kids really aren't buying comics but if generations of young teens are consistently jumping into the hobby when they hit 16-19 or whatever (and have their first jobs and some cash to burn) then I can see this hobby sustaining itself for a long time. That being said, "old and cool" to these kids it stuff from the 90s, like first Venom or Carnage. Going further back does not peak the interest of them as much, for the most part. Now, there are a LOT of 90s kids like me with money and comics were still a big thing back then and part of our childhood. I fear that the group of people in the next gen who grew up in the 2000s will not find as much of a childhood connection to comics, meaning it could really drop off once us 90s kids get old and stop or pass away. There might become a point in 2070 where there are a whackload of collectors trying to sell stuff (like me) and the demand/interest may not be there for those books, outside of keys and characters they connect with most.
  4. Definitely a cool one to have a double cover on. As mentioned, post pics in the grading forum for grade guestimates from fellow collectors. Personally, I like looking at my double covers but I know lots of people like to slab em especially for resale.
  5. ^ Very true Unfortunately, the terminology is very misleading in the comic world. No one person has ever really bothered to clarify or make it consistent to the point where a lot of it is just meaningless words. Why do you think CGC does not include grader notes on a lot of higher grade books? They just "go by the ole eye test" and really there is only these minor imperfections that make it a 9.4 and not a 9.6 or 9.8. So they don't even bother naming these for fear of having pushback on what that defect actually should be called. To me, a bend is something that pressing could improve greatly, if not almost eliminate. A crease you can see. It is a line in the book, it breaks colour. It cannot be undone and most often a press will do nothing to improve it. I hate the term "non colour breaking crease". Either call it an indentation if it is linear in shape or a bend if it appears near a corner or edge.
  6. For me, - Make sure I post in the right forum!
  7. Close but not quite my vision. All white front and back but they thinly drawn webbing in black in various patterns in the costume.
  8. Get rid of the Android pupils, make the white a different reddish shade (darker) and I would enjoy much more. That or instead of an all black suit, how about and all white one with black webbing lines. Would look sick!
  9. So in previous years, I had tried to keep track of how much I "spent" yearly on comics. I am farrrrrr from someone who buys and sells to the extent of some but I do enough selling and have for years to fund the hobby. This year, I wanted to see what that would look like and I want to continue this in future years. After all is said and done, this year I spent a total of $671 CAD (or about $524 USD) on comics. Below are some highlights added to the PC from within that spending... -Terrors of the Jungle 17 - Suspense Comics 19 -A large Dave Stevens lot -Jumbo Comics 83 - 15-20 or so ASM issues including #32, 61 (signed), 80, 86, 129 and a handful I upgraded including 194 - a dozen Moon Knight issues from the first series - 3 30 cent variant Conan comics - Full Warlock run from the 70s - full Long Halloween run -GI Joe #1 - She Hulk #1 - several X-Men books from the Claremont/Byrne run including #129 - full Inhumans run from 70's - full Champions run from 70's -all of the Starlin books from the his run on Captain Marvel -Haunt of Fear #17 -Sex Criminals #1-17 -CGC 9.2 Next Men #21 -Descender and Wytches full run - around 100-150 other filler books from the silver/bronze/copper eras and a handful of new books (finally started buying Ice Cream Man) - Oh and a vintage comic standing display rack that I hope to have in my actual home sometime in 2021! Overall, I would have to estimate that close to 300 or so books made their way into my PC this past year. Works out to around $2.25 per book Canadian, or $1.76 USD. I think overall for the quality/quantity combination, this was a very strong year. It was helped by a large collection purchase for sure but I also found many a great deal by switching how I was buying my comics from ebay to other avenues. It will be interesting to see how 2021 stacks up. On one hand, I might eventually be able to pick up stuff stateside but I might just wait out another year until this whole COVID thing is under more control, just to be safe. Value wise, I estimate the value of the books I bought to be worth in the $2000-2500 range total. To only spend $671 and essentially get triple the value on books I want is great and likely better than I will do in future years but hey...set the bar high and I will see what I can do.
  10. I would much rather buy a book with a replaced staple (era correct) than a trimmed book. It would not bother me in the slightest. Trimming would.
  11. Safely gonna say 6.0 The slight halo tan around the edges tends to get hit. It’s def nicer than a 5.5 but I am not sure if it hits 6.5 so 6.0 sounds right.
  12. I’ll post my pic as I may get called away here. Ill take the Jungle lot as I am a big Sheena fan:) If that’s taken, I’ll go Savage Avengers.
  13. I might be limited in my choices since many remaining are US only. If that be the case I will defer my pick to someone if allowed.
  14. I never even realized......tomorrow I am giving up the sauce. Tomorrow.....
  15. You mean some people donated only??? Or multiple? I’m lost. The generosity in this group is sobering and much appreciated!
  16. Did I miss something...I get TWO picks? This brandy egg nog is killing me
  17. Thanks @The Sledder for organizing and to everyone involved who donated, gifted, regrifted, mystery made and spread the holiday spirit in this raffle. An event I have enjoyed since i joined and hope to continue to for years to come.
  18. You pick my pick and I’ll upchuck my eggnog and schnapps on ya!
  19. A healthy nerd swear alternative that’s also a Pokémon
  20. I’m fifty something or who knows and I count a dozen prizes I want still!!
  21. See? Time machine folks. Guy just zips back and nabs em off the racks.
