  1. 7.5-8.0 from me. That small crease at bottom of FC keeps from higher, as does what appears to be the slightest sun shadow on the back cover (unless its the lighting. From experience, CGC tends to hammer that.
  2. Yes def have that spot looked at...even if its amateur colour removal or touch or whatever, that could be the different between a blue and a purple
  3. So I have grades ranging from 1.0 to 2.5 here...quite the range but I expected as much with a book in this territory and it is hard to pinpoint. It is definitely be added to the pile of "to grade" books, as part of my first CGC submission which will hopefully happen this calendar year.
  4. On the 5.5's, the best I can see is a press maybe getting them to 6.0. You got hammered for the things that others already mentioned plus any staining always seems to hurt. And on a buys cover like that, staining can be hard to see. The right light, even the proper light, would reveal some of what CGC mentioned in their notes. When in doubt, hit up the "Hey buddy can ya spare a grade" forum here for feedback from fellow collectors. Sometimes they give ya the harsh reality, sometimes they confirm your beliefs and occasionally they cause even more confusion . Either way, it's great fun!
  5. As for your books, #28- 5.5-6.0 mainly due to the edge wear and the stain on back corner #41- 7.0 mainly due to the slight discolouration to the back cover #134- 8.0ish due to waviness to top corner. Press might help this book hit 9.0 or so
  6. That’s better, although per the thread rules if you want feedback on a potential grade for a book, post one book per topics. Usually people title their topic “Please grade my ASM 28” for example and then within the topic created, they share the pictures. Also per the forums guidelines, you want to post no more than three comics per day for feedback on. Why? My guess it’s to prevent someone from listing hundreds of books at once to try to get feedback on.
  7. Are you asking us to grade them? If so, more pictures are needed. If you are just sharing what you are sending out, this is not the best thread for that...
  8. I don’t have 30000 books but I feel the same way anytime I get the slight urge to send some in. I get the books out and go so far as to see the cost and think “why am I really doing this?”...I love my raw books and I could spend $$$ right now on books instead of slabbing stuff I have.
  9. Here is a 1.8 on ebay currently....I can't help but feel this appears worse than my copy but then again, I am not a fan of tape or a detached cover...so maybe my flaws are just different but still result in the same grade....I was personally thinking 1.8 but now I wonder if 2.0 or even 2.5 is possible.
  10. Tell your friend you are 100% right with this statement. Can the CGC census be used to determine rarity? Sure but I moreso refer to the census for Golden Age books. Everything else was printed en masse and a lot has survived. Golden Age books, specifically books from the 40s, are harder to come by, having had to survive the war and the effects of it, not to mention that comics weren't established as a hobby yet. Reality is, I am sure you can find a LOT of comics with 0 books on the census. Does not equal rarity or value at all. And even if it does indicate rarity, does not mean its worth it. As to your question about at what point does slabbing make sense, I am going to answer this question from a "I might want to make money" perspective. Also, my answer is coming from a small time collector and someone who sells to support the hobby, not some big time buyer/flipper of comics. For me, I think it is pretty simply. If I am fairly confident in the grade the book will get and I think getting that grade (or a half grade lower thinking worst case scenario) will allow me to make money, I would do it if the potential profit was $50 and up. Example....raw book in VF sells for $75-125 depending on the day, listing, etc I am confident in VF, at worst, VF- VF- slabbed sells for average of $200 or so. I would get likely get this comic graded as even after costs to do so, I am going to come out ahead by the margin I would like. That is enough of a margin for me, as a small collector, to make it worth my time. Anything less, and I would probably be more likely to sell raw in the interest of saving time. I could understand people sending stuff en mass being happier with smaller gains per comic but that is where I would be. Also, I would also grade several books I own with zero interest in value...simply to better display/protect/possibly preserve a little better than my current method of storing.
  11. Yeah the Joe book is the worst of the two. I would keep as readers until ya upgrade (if upgrading is in the plans) or as you said, use them for what I call personal experiments. It's books like these I keep to practice cleaning, tap removal and, if my life permits, other experiments.
  12. 9.0-9.2 mainly because of that impact drop mark on the bottom left corner of the cover. If not for that, you could have a 9.6 or better but it is a noticeable flaw.
  13. Correct me if I am wrong, but a wrap like this can be hard to fix with a press because of how everything was aligned incorrectly from the moment it was printed. Definitely something you would want someone with experience to do either way. As for grade, 7.5-8.0 as is. Production flaws factor in and I see other small flaws that put it into this range anyways so that is where I would expect it to fall. If fixable, maybe 8.5
  14. People are too mean. I mean I hate stains as much as the next guy but I don't find these on here that bad. Not like a huge stain that covers 1/8th of the entire cover....much worse. Anyyywaaayyy I think it is nice than some 3.0's I have seen but I don't believe it hits 4.0 because of those stains so 3.5 seems the right grade to settle on.
  15. Seems 7.5ish to me, but an 8.0 would not surprise me.
  16. Ok but what are you implying it would take to get to a 2.5? I’m not interested in any resto if that’s what you were thinking. If I do ever grade it, a clean and press would be all I would invest in as I’m not aware of anything else people offer that would serve to help this book....
  17. You think it would cost more than $40-50 to press and clean enough to get it there?
  18. Personally, if I bought slabbed books, I would be more than fine saving tons of money on 9.6 books versus chasing 9.8s. Several reasons.. - they look almost the same - there is always a chance that with some "love", a 9.6 could BECOME a 9.8 (whereas I have never EVER seen anyone submit a 9.8 and get a 9.9 or 10.0 - at the end of the day, I would rather pay for 100 issues of 9.6 books than get only 20 of those books in 9.8
  19. Are you saying after this time, date stamps don't appear or are just much much fewer? Because I do have this from earlier in the thread which I should think would be VERY late
  20. This is what I was curious about the most, is whether or not a press would be safe enough to maybe smooth it out. I am not concerned with the alignment, although I know a lot of guys care and would try that but my worry (unless they are a great presser) is that they could run the risk of tearing or loosening the staples from the cover, to which they are still attached very well
  21. Just so you know there are no rust stains. The staples are fine. That stain you see is just that, a regular stain of some kind
