  1. I just got one too from a boardie Also, for all you EC diehards....anyone know the first time "Ghastly" appears as Ingels' calling card? Curious is all
  2. Unfortunately no GA warthogs in the PC but this thread needs a theme song so here...
  3. Put it this way, someone buying that SA 12 knows they are getting the best looking copy in existence (most likely). Those ticks and off center staples (the top one mostly but seems common on this ish) are the only flaws.
  4. Yowza! Nice! See, this is where I feel CGC gets a tad generous with Golden Age books. But, I honestly don't have a problem with it. Thing is, that probably is the nicest copy in existence. Yes, there are two spine ticks but that is it. The paper maaaayyyyy be more off-white but still. And while the guidelines say staples are generally well centered, GA books are notorious for having them off centered. That book looks like it was just printed. Better than some that were just printed (actually better than most things just printed). I think 9.4-9.6 more understanding but hey, that is an awesome copy!
  5. That black ink spot is not a printing defect. It is from distributor spray. Some info can be found here It appears like you have some of it pooling on the back, hence the black. And it appears in the banner that above "Comics" there is some colour loss, likely from that ink being wet and then hardening and then peeled off when the comic stacked on top was removed. It does affect the grade and here you can see how a major overspray can do so However, yours is minor hence why it should still be able to garner a VF grade.
  6. Is there some colour loss near the top edge above/on the Marvel banner? The ink seems to be from distributor spray and if there is colour loss, it is probably from that ink sticking to a comic on top and being peeled off back in the day. 8.5 from me. You have a wiggly staple...haha, I have a couple bronze age books with similar lil wigglers.
  7. That edge tear will hurt it, mainly because it is so noticeable. That and the spine ticks. 8.0-8.5 seems more likely.
  8. I will second 8.0, 8.5 at best. Nice copy.
  9. I think at worse, 5.5 but I believe this book is moreso a 6.0-6.5. I do think a press and clean would help ensure that!
  10. I think there is a general consensus if a collection is quality. For example, someone with a collection of Silver and Bronze age books in decent shape would definitely be considered quality, assuming there were a number of commonly collected titles in there. A collection of 2000-3000 comics that came out between 1985 and 1995...I feel one would be hard pressed to have a collection that large consisting of desired books. Maybe desirable condition but unlikely to have 2000-3000 desirable books from that era. As for the original question of how many is too many...however many makes a collector happy if the right amount. If you are someone who has 6 long boxes of keys only and that is your thing, awesome. If you are someone who collected runs of Bronze Age titles only, awesome. I have met people with collections like mine (around 3000) and I have met people whose entire basements are filled (60000-70000 comics). I think the only way it can become a lot is if it burdens your life in some way. If you are hording comics and barely scraping by, you may want to re-evaluate your spending. Is there an average size? I feel like there are a large number of collectors with 1000 books or less. These collectors are focused and just have what they truly love and this is generally the size of a collection that someone sells when and if they do. So the most common size is in that range. I feel that as it starts to climb closer to 10000, you will find fewer and fewer collectors with that many books. Once you exceed 10000, I feel like there are not as many and that you are in a totally different tier.
  11. If they were colour breaking creases a press wouldn’t do a lick of good so they’d still be there.
  12. I don't think it is 1.0 and I wonder if 1.8 is too high. I will say though 1.5 seems worse case and the potential is there for 1.8.
  13. If you want to avoid fees, there is a strong likelihood that selling some (especially the $100-500 range books) would move quick and earn you the most buck if sold here. For the bigger books I can understand wanting to reach the top market with cash to spend and perhaps even overpay for.
  14. This A reholder would be desired only if you really like the new cases. That is a 4.5 and the popped staple should keep from 5.0.
  15. I bought because I love his work and it was one I didn't have. Doesn't have the glasses although I have a pair from another 3-D comic from that time...plus I'll take the extra cover! It was funny the seller did not notice because he did list saying the glasses were missing which means the book was opened
  16. Bought this a while back. Gonna display nice on my Halloween/horror comic wall when the time comes:)
  17. So a couple books I had sitting stateside finally got to me. These were purchased back in March and I kinda just waited thinking I would go get them when things got better but here we are. So I just had them sent to me... First, some Golden Age goodness. Bought these because the price seemed right and I was in a GA mood at the time. The date stamp and date on the Jumbo had me wanting it more than a normal copy. And this....with a pleasant surprise inside!!! And round it out with some ho gym ASM as an upgrade on my current copy
  18. 8.0-8.5 seems right. I don't see anything glaring that a press could help but on a book like that, I would spend the smidge extra if I wanted it slabbed with dreams of guaranteeing a 8.5 or maybe 9.0
  19. Ahhh did not read that. Good catch, I was just checking out of curiosity to see if there had been any movement for this book in the past year.
  20. Last sale of this ish on the bay was couple days ago, VG copy for $287.
  21. In all honesty, I view this as a comic collecting community forum...the largest one with some of the most knowledgeable people. You can't get this type of response or reply anywhere. Other avenues are not "policed" and you can end up dealing with a lot of people who don't have basic common sense and kindness when talking. Granted, the odd grudge match happens on here but I feel in general, it is much more professional and understanding, as it should be.
