  1. I grew up on his stories well after most grew up on them. Sad to hear this, rest in peace Denny.
  2. Others I will throw in for the buyer, all in 3.0-4.0 range
  3. Hi all, So this seems like it would be better off with someone who can appreciate it more than I. I’m open to offers so don’t hesitate to message. Payment via PayPal. Returns accepted within 10 days of receiving the book. Now on to the book! Girls’ Romances 105 features the image that Lichtenstein used for one of his famous paintings. As for condition, I will list the flaws: - small hole top right corner, not sure if bug chew or what but it’s the cover only - foxing and discolouring to top right, left and bottom right of cover - back cover also has discolouring to it as seen in photo. I grade it somewhere in the VG/FN range personally. If you would like more pictures please feel free to ask. I will also throw in some other Romance books from this series to the buyer. Price is $250 USD shipped. Again, I am open to offers. Thanks for looking!
  4. Yeah CGC hits browning, tanning and discolouring to paper harder, especially on Bronze age books and up. They seem a little more lenient with Golden Age and some Silver Age which is where this falls....I'd be interested to see how they grade it. I do think $1225 is high considering a 6.0 sells for less. If whoever bought it gets 7.5 or better then they made out okay.
  5. My recent find. Will likely sell as it seems more desired by others than myself!
  6. I mean it’s a 9.8. I’d send to CGC for a reholder and request the seller reimburse that cost. If they decline, I leave feedback and eat the cost myself if the book was that great of a deal
  7. I think it was posted on Instagram, but someone had copies of Marvel Spotlight 5 and some other key book from that time period that were still in their mailers, folded. I wonder what those books would grade. Probably worth more in the mailers. But to my knowledge, they had opened them up.
  8. I have a feeling where I would put this but am wondering what the masses think. Weird hole in top right corner (insect chew? Acid? Extreme tape pull?). Bottom right has some fixing or discolouring, back cover also has some discolouring or foxing. Centrefold is tight.
  9. My wife also is fine with it. I mean, she made sure my shelves where I store them in the basement look nice so she can still bring company downstairs. She also gave me a display wall in the one basement hallway. I consider that a win. I mean, she doesn't know that once our kids are grown (this is a looooong ways off as we only have one now who is 2), the basement will eventually become my lair. Muahahhhhhhahaha
  10. In twenty years, books I could have picked up now for dollars will be worth ten or twenty times that.
  11. I generally don’t even look at listings where they are self graded as 9.6. Or if there is anything like the words Rare or Scarce or something clearly designed to grab eyes. Why? Well I’m not hunting for high grade and I know these auctions will get bid up to high heavens anyway so it’s a waste of my time. And really, good dealers and sellers of comics should know not to go for such auctions either but obviously some are. That FF issue originally posted clearly has slight browning or discolouring on the cover and a competent collector or dealer should see that and know that’s not a 9.4 or 9.6 book.
  12. I disagree that collecting today is hard. Sure it’s hard to get old books dirt cheap but that applies to any collectible. If you don’t like a new book getting expensive or even an older back issue going from dollar bins to $10-20, wait and they usually come down somewhat after movie hype. Mind you if you really liked a certain character or story or whatever you would have bought it before it became expensive. If you shop and put effort into the hunt you get rewarded. Everyone finds good stuff all the time. Doesn’t fall into your lap though. For me that’s part of the fun. I know what I want to pay and if I don’t see a price I like I wait. Eventually I find it and if I don’t well it wasn’t meant to be!
  13. Nah, yours had tighter spine and nicer back cover. I would be surprised if this copy here was higher. Close but the spine wear is heavy and the rip on the back will hurt it. Still a solid low grader! Probably all I will only ever be able to afford some day.....
  14. Videos are tough. 9.0 at least from what I see, possibly higher.
  15. 9.4-9.6 I know CGC says production flaws don't hurt a book but I think they will look at that back cover with that slight miscut along the bottom plus the light scuff along the back spine and hit it with a 9.6. Hope I am wrong but mentally, I would prepare for that if you do sub it.
  16. 2.0-2.5. Too bad about that corner otherwise would be closer to VG
  17. Comic Tropes- great analysis of key moments and stories in comics as well as analysis of artists. Comictom101- does a weekly trending list with Nick who created the key collector app. Used to have a podcast that wasn’t terrible but also wasn’t the most informative in terms of new info. I still watch just to know what’s selling and what certain masses are after. Comic Book Palace- the best. Great discussion, authentic, funny. You literally watch people in a comic store and it’s well done IMO. Very Gary Comics- good if you like unboxing videos and to see books before and after submitted to CGC. Also are some found collection videos. There are a couple more I watch occasionally. Initially I had more but most jus showed off what they had bought or found which is great but rather than sit through a 10-15 minute video I’d rather come here and scroll through forums and see just as many cool finds in a quicker time span.
  18. When you make a purchase for an issue you needed in your run and find a pleasant unknown about surprise inside!!! The guy I bought from told me after it was signed. Said he got it signed 35 years ago. Appear legit? Either way it’s a book I needed and the signature was a great bonus!
  19. Keep sealed. Awesome piece of history! How did you acquire it!?!
  20. Yup Def rare and an oddity but not a 1.2 million dollar one. As many have said though, someone might pay a decent amount for it by both those issues' standards (being $2 books and the potential to earn between $100-1000 for it) If you are selling and want to maximize profit and ensure credibility so that buyers feel they are getting a legit printing error, having graded is your best bet. Both books came out at the same time like the other printing error. If you inspect the spine you should be able to tell if a cover and interior were put together. Rarely do staple holes line up, the book is usually looser and you can tell something is off. That is not to say someone who is good at it couldn't make it look legitimate. And maybe someone professional could pull the wool over CGC's eyes?
  21. Everyone else has pretty much nailed the answer to the question. A big thing is condition. You can have an old book that is 50-60 years old and according to a value guide or website, can be worth $200. However, if it is torn, worn and beat, it does not matter what it could be. What it is is a $5 comic at best in the shape it is in. So in addition to knowing which books can be more valuable than others, to truly educate one's self in comics, you also have to understand condition. It comes with years of collecting but generally, one can find answers about condition on boards like these if they want other more experienced advice. It is why I ocassionally post here because even I sometimes wonder is this book more 4.0 or 5.0??
  22. I agree that doing this would likely be detected if you were to have it graded. However, as someone who prefers raw comics, I would definitely do this for my own collection. Especially on a book I like. If I felt I could connect the nicer cover with the nicer interior, I would definitely do so.
