To Tape or Not To Tape....

Maybe I will tape the loonie over the piece that is sticking up! There, that's the solution! -

To Tape or Not To Tape....
comicginger1789 replied to comicginger1789's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I appreciate the replies...I won't tape and if I do grade, I will take @Funnybooks advice and clearly note on the bag. And I'll do them better than some dirty paper dollar and give them a dirty Canadian loonie!!! -

To Tape or Not To Tape....
comicginger1789 replied to comicginger1789's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I probably will slab it eventually. My worry being CGC damaging it more if careless. I’ve heard some bad stories within the last year.... -
I am curious about whether or not I should use a small piece of tape to hold this piece down. Why you ask? Well while I’m unlikely to remove the book a lot from its bag and board, I worry such a piece could catch and rip and cause it to be worse. ‘What about the grade!’ you cry? Well the book is a 2.0, perhaps a generous person would say 2.5 so I doubt a small piece of tape would even hurt...I am just curious what you would do and if you would tape it, what you would use?

Hi all, A Tank Girl lot here. Descriptions of each are as follows: #1- 7.0-7.5, some indents on cover that might press out. Corner ding on back top left corner. Trading cards still inside. #2- 7.0 range. Light overall wear #3- 8.0 best of the bunch as is #4- 5.5-6.0 worst of the bunch due to inch or so of spine split. Paypal for payment. Price includes shipping. Returns? Talk to me and I will always make it right if you are unhappy. Price is $125USD shipped. Open to offers as always! But I do want to sell as a set so I won’t be willing to break them up!

PGM Iron Man 55 - Grade is In!
comicginger1789 replied to Crops068's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I would have opted to clean the back. As it sits, 5.5-6.0. Pressing might guarantee the 6.0 and maybe 6.5. -
I am also in the 7.5-8.0 camp...purely because of the number of spine ticks. Its definitely out of the Fine range though.

Off-White to White vs. White?
comicginger1789 replied to Greatwhite's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I mean, I know there are some die hard 9.8 guys who want the white pages...they want it to be as new as new can be. But I would call that a very small fraction of the population. I would be more than fine with one of my books coming back 9.8 with off-white to white pages. Reason being I have seen enough instances where books have been submitted and resubmitted and the page quality changes. So clearly, the whiteness barometer that CGC uses varies from grader to grader (or at least their view of what is white changes). Meaning, I think there are plenty of great off-white to white books out there that when compared to ones labelled "white pages" (not that you could because they are slabbed but if you did) I think are just as white. But again, those who are die hard 9.8 white pagers want CGC's word on that and will pay a premium for it. -
PGM my TMNT 7
comicginger1789 replied to SellinMyCollection's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
-
Strongly disagree Common to see this with books, especially with the miswrap present. Lots of books are miscut and this one I can guarantee would be a blue label. As for grade, I am 8.0ish mainly for that impact ding. I feel 8.5 is not out of the question but I believe 9.0 and higher is because of it

Buying Raws on EBay???
comicginger1789 replied to Mike_1's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Exactly. I am not saying the people listing are wrong. I am saying frenzies erupt and books get bid higher than (I believe) they should be compared to some copies actually graded out at what these books would land at. -
Buying Raws on EBay???
comicginger1789 replied to Mike_1's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
There are SOOO many books on ebay that I see listed as NEAR MINT!!! HIGH GRADE!!!! WOWZA that, upon inspection, are maybe 8.5-9.0. People go nuts on certain listings and often times, end up paying more. They think it is a 9.6, submit and get a 9.0 and for the hassle, should have just bought a 9.0. -
Advice Welcomed . To keep or not to keep this JIM 83?
comicginger1789 replied to serling1978's topic in Comics General
I mean I don’t see Antman ever blowing up. Sure movies may continue and allow that book to maintain interest but Thor is a much more desired character. If you have to sell, sell the Ant Man. UNLESS you really love Ant Man. But if you want the better book visually and investment wise my vote is for Jimmers 83 -

The "I can't believe I just sold it for that much" thread....
comicginger1789 replied to Xenosmilus's topic in Comics General
I feel like people buying these books are in another league.....for some I want to know why...do they really see some of these books growing even more? Do they love 9.8s that much? My worry for a handful of the books posted (except maybe that 9.9 TOD 10), is that in the wake of a likely economic crash, comics will dip (not crash but dip hard) and the road to profiting on those books even more will be a steep and slow climb. -
Do semi common printer defects affect your buying a book?
comicginger1789 replied to Venomous72's topic in Comics General
Umm shame on you for passing up on a great book because of THAT! Printing defects I don’t care at all about if they appear on my comics include: 1. Printing creases 2. small marks like the ones originally posted, be they ink spots or colour loss spots 3. Small holes at bottom of interior page 4. Ink overspray (so long as half the comics isn’t soaked) 5. Miswrap ill take the above flaws any day over some I despise like stains, detached cover and or page,
