Ebay would be what I use to buy if in Ireland. As for telling the difference between a 9.6 and a 9.8, that comes with experience. Like I said, if you are willing to put in the time to really learn grading, flaws, what to look for, scanning images of existing 9.6 and 9.8s, you can find them online. Things to always examine up close (and ask for more pics if needed) are the spine, the corners and have the sellers take a pic of the book on an angle, to catch if there are any other imperfections like faint indents that are often missed from a straight overhead photo. Like I said, might take some time and patience but you can get there if you don't want to drop over a grand on a copy.

Marvel announced plans for Wolverine to be the first mutant introduced into the MCU. They plan on doing two separate origin types shows...one which will follow his time as Patch (hence why this ish is expensive) and the other looking into how he became Wolverine (a la the Weapon X storyline from the Marvel Comics Presents run).

Are you buying the book or the grade? Sounds like you care more about the 9.8 Will it go down? Time will tell...one would think this collectibles boom will have to peak and dip at some point, as things do, especially if economies crash a bit in the next couple years. Tis the way. Nothing really rises and gains and grows steadily forever without experiencing some dips and doodles. Suggestion? At that price, be patient and secure yourself 5-10 raw copies you think are worthy of the 9.8. This book had a HUGE print run (15 years ago I would find collections with dozens of copies) so chances are you can get your own 9.8 with a little bit of patience and work and, if you grade all the raws and sell the ones you get back that are not 9.8, you might even turn a profit or cover your costs! But nah....why do that when I can click, pay, ship, get.

Hmm maybe it is just a real nice looking 2.5. I mean you could gamble on it. All depends on what you have in it, whether risking "x" dollars for "x" grade bump is worth it.

How old is the slab? I know for a period of time in the last decade, they seemed to get really strict on stuff. The tears are they referring to the Marvel Chipping? If so I have seen worse chipping on higher graded books. This is a very nice 2.5 and I think could bump up a half grade to a grade...

ASM 20 from O'Kennon back in early 80s
comicginger1789 replied to Terry E. Gibbs's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I think the boards are on the mark. The edge wear and tanning to page edges hurts the most. If that was not there, easily a VF+ book or better -

Books are from '86 which from what I kinda know, was a period when distribution of newsstands and direct copies were pretty much 50/50. Maybe they had an overstock of newsstand copies in the warehouse and those were used to fullfill order? I am not sure at all how the process would have went. I do know that the brown envelopes I have seen (a friend had some from when he ordered him X-Men comics back in the 80s), and the copies he received were direct editions. Cool little treasures. Keep the envelopes for fun! -
I agree with what has been said. Clean and press that one for sure.

3.5-4.0 seems right. The amount of corner creases seems plentiful, along with the wrinkling/creasing near the Loki blurb. Unless there is something interior going on keeping it from this grade, I think this is the range for this book.

The masses saying 8.0-8.5 seem on point -
Too many spine ticks for a 9.0 from me...maybe though. Definitely in the 8.0-8.5 range and a press will ensure the higher I believe.

Seven pages in and no one has mentioned Thunderbunny? For shame.... The next TMNT if I am not mistaken And I mean come on? If there is a super power I want, it is to turn into giant pink space bunny that is lamer than Jaxxon. -

Maybe more postal workers cared then? I have seen the brown envelopes before too. Sometimes they got folded... ...but what is weird is aren't those copies you have newsstand copies?? If they came from Marvel, should they not be direct editions?? -
Lots of faint spine ticks on the back there in addition to that ding. 7.5-8.0 from me.

Comicgingers CGC Conundrum Contest!!!! Phase 1

An update! Currently, X-Men 129 seems a sure fire send in! As does ASM Annual 1! But still lots of time for people to get votes in and shake things up! To help diversify the grades, I have 2 books that are MYSTERYYYYY BOOOOOKKKSSS! First book has a unique flaw that should cause much debate, debauchery and discussion as to where it might grade. The interestingly odd second book has some funky fresh flaws itself AND will be the book I enter as part of the prize. Again, we shall iron out the details eventually about whether we should all do a "submit a prize" or not. That's all for now! Oh and consider this a HINT at what the one of the two mystery books are... ....and the hints will come into playyyy with the contest! -

Yea of course tell your friends! Or foes! -
I'll be conservative at 7.0-7.5 mainly due to the stain (fairly noticeable) and the wear to the bottom edge plus the slight disclouration/tanning to the back cover edges. Great copy though!

PGM very low grade ASM #1
comicginger1789 replied to Motor City Rob's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
It's def missing more than a remainder copy. Plus, remainder copies are missing the title. This is missing a lot of the key artwork. I guess it is a toss up what one prefers more...the classic logo or the image. Either way, it will either be a 0.5 (expect this) or a 1.0 (hope for this). -
That blue ink is distributors ink. Google it and you will see that unless it is extremely messy and all over the book, it has minimal affect on grade. Press the book. It appears wavy but that may be because of that ink spray. I have a Tomb of Dracula 1 that has similar wavyness to the bottom edge...it is on the docket to be pressed and I believe that can be fixed. As is, safely a 7.5. I do see potential for 8.0 though.
