  1. Group shot to come! I’ll be cleaning some over the next little bit and doing all the prep work for the eventual grading contest! Might be a bit so don’t wait up folks!
  2. I lied, I made up my mind real quick....the two other books going in to round things out a bit are AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #18 AND HAUNT OF FEAR #17! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  3. THE RESULTS ARE IN! First book, with 23 votes is......X-MEN #129! Next, with 21 votes is....THOR #337! Next, also with 21 votes is...AVENGERS #196! Next, with 20 votes is...MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #28! Next, with 19 votes is...SHE HULK #1! Next, with 17 votes is...SECRET WARS #8! Next, with 16 votes is...GI JOE #21 CPV! Also with 16 votes is...AVENGERS ANNUAL #10! Next, with 15 votes is...USAGI YOJIMBO #1! And finally, there were two books tied with 14 votes...both X-Men books, issues 96 and issue 130. I have decided to go with.....X-MEN #130! And the big boys are as follows...... In first, with 22 votes is....ASM ANNUAL #1! In second place, with 18 votes is...FANTASTIC FOUR #49! And again, for third, a tie between ASM 129 and FF 6....so once again, I shall break the tie and I say....FANTASTIC FOUR #6! Thanks to all who voted and helped decide. In addition to these books, I have two MYSTERRRRYYYY BOOOOOKS going in. I also am looking through the PC this week for two others just to really round out this batch of books. I will share what these are in a couple days!
  4. Missed these by thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssss much
  5. You might be able, with a dry q-tip, to gently brush it off. Just a bit of pressure as opposed to using a fingernail to scrape it off.
  6. This...this right here...is what keeps me hunting around my area. On the surface, no comics. We dont even have a shop where I live but I KNOW back in the day there were 2-3 stores and every kid in town went to them. I've talked to people who said "Oh yeah, I remember ASM 129s marked down for 10 cents...and other older stuff even cheaper." That "stuff" is somewhere....and I will find it!
  7. 4.0 from me. Definitely better than a 3.0 and I don't think it is a 5.0 because of the creasing. So 4.0 is where I fall.
  8. And if you are asking why no one wants to give it a 9.6 or 9.8 its because we are cautious folks here
  9. First, yes, that is 100% a printing crease...common on many Bronze Agers As for other flaws, the back cover along spine has some light contact dirt. The top left corner also shows light wear and there is light staple stress. I would think this is a 9.2 to 9.4 range book myself.
  10. I agree with the masses and the 8.5s that they proclaim!
  11. Nope. A dust or sun shadow is something that has affected the paper quality and cannot be undone. As for grade, 6.0-6.5 which, if you spend money to grade it, would mean you are spending more money than the book us worth.
  12. Generally, bends are pressable. On a book like that, personally, I would do it even if it came back the same. The payoff is worth it if it does.
  13. A press could minimize that crease a fair bit I think...even still, I think 7.0 mayyybbbbeeee 7.5 would be the highest to expect after said press.
  14. If it is dry (like something dry and crusty that you can feel has texture), sure it can come off. Youtube has plenty of people doing stuff like that. .Practice on junk comics then go for it. Or have someone who is pro do it.
  15. Yeah I feel like a lot of "younger fellas" think books 50-100 years old need white gloves and to be stored behind glass. I mean, you cant toss it around like a People magazine but you can read and handle with clean, bare hands and be fine. Oh and how dare you crush the dreams I have that somewhere, there is a pile of comics from the 40s sitting in a perfectly temperature controlled basement waiting for me to find them
  16. Last day folks! This weekend I will tally up the results and share here! It will probably be a little bit before the actual grading contest begins but when it does, it should be a lot of fun! Thanks for all who voted and hey...tell some friends! Still time to get in on this! Plus, mysterrrryyyyyy booooooooooooookssssss ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I've left clues and these will be needed...eventually. Are they too cryptic? Are they kung-fu kicking ya in the head with their mysteriousness? Rest assured, I shall premiere these mystery books in due time. One of the books features an artist that has had a hughes influence on many people!
  17. People seem to think that once a comic hits "x" years old, it will disintigrate! Yes the paper used is fragile but generally on a lot of GA books it is thicker and as long as semi-decent storing conditions (more important than what they are in) are met, these books can last a very long time. Slabbing them may help reduce the chances of handling wear or damage in that regard but in no way is that a guarantee to prolong their life from natural degradation.
  18. I find Go Collect not as up to date as some other sites (sometimes thats a good thing....sometimes its a bad thing). Not that I have graded books, but I use it as a general idea. And a lot of the time, if I say I have a VF book (raw) and GoCollect says it is worth $120, usually VF raws are going for 80% or higher of their graded value anyways at the time so its not a terrible indicator for me. I am also not one trying to nail down the exact value of my stuff (as I am not selling it) but it helps to know that certain random silver/bronze age books have grown more than I had expected.
  19. Cool! All kinds of wonky with the colours and inks and a double cover on top of that...love it!
  20. I’m sure you can make a great history pun to use instead!
  21. How about a comic classroom? This is my bulletin board....had to put all the coverless, water damage, ripped apart comics to use somehow!
  22. You mean you are witty and funny as all Don heck :P
  23. Once again my harshness causes me to consider sending in some of my own stuff as I am clearly under grading. nice grade on a great book!
  24. I'd be curious how CGC would grade this...not your fault the printer cut them in this way...does it mean there is a copy out there with part of its pages ripped off? Either way, folded in they might have little to no effect (I mean if the book was 9.6-9.8 and had that, maybe it dings it a bit but this book appears to be in the 6.5-7.0 range to begin with).
