I just assume 4-5 months before I see my books again. Maybe six. I hope not seven. Eight would make me sad. Nine is too long. Ten would incur slight rage. Eleven would have me consider never doing again. Twelve would cause Dylan level rage.

Spider-Man is a top tier character, arguably the company’s best and top 3 across all pop culture. So he will always have fans. And as long as there are fans, they will seek out early appearances of the best rogues gallery in all of comics. Ditko was a great artist and it seems he resonates well even with newer younger collectors. I would say the early ASM books are some of the best in terms of stories. The best in terms of artwork. And because it is part of the hobby, the best to invest in and speculate around. I would pick these books any day over certain “hot books of the moment” like say Daredevil 9, 10 or even Hulk 449. With those books, sure you have some interesting characters/teams but you don’t have enough of a die hard fan base to care long term for those characters like you do Spidey. Those are books that if you are dropping $200-500 on high grade raw/graded copies, you are betting on a show/movie to make those characters more and to have longevity. Reality is they may just appear once in a movie and be gone. And while it seems like Marvel hits on most things, they are bound to have some misses and it’s the third and fourth tier characters that that will likely happen to. Remember Thor the Dark World? I sold a raw copy of Thor 344 (first Malekith) for $100. Now? That book can be had for under $10 easily. That person would have been much better off spending that $100 on a low grade (or even mid grade) lower ASM book at that has most definitely increased in value.

PGM slabbed Hulk 3
comicginger1789 replied to Westy Steve's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
4.5 (Was thinking 4.0-4.5 before I squinted and saw the grade) I wouldn’t press. I haven’t seen a 5.0 with that much chilling before and think this is the perfect grade on this book. -
Mind you I think the Omega Red rumours started with the Black Widow flick, as he was supposed to be in that. Maybe because the movie got delayed they cut his appearance in this show and replaced it with that throwaway lady that gets killed three minutes after she gives info about that Nagle scientist?

Episode 3 I liked but there is still a lot I dont like. None of the actors seem right. John Walker seemed weird but that may be intentional so that’s ok. Falcon I can’t get a read in and I feel is suffering from terrible writing. Bucky has moments but even he seems lost. Zemo was great but a far cry from past Zemo. Sharon was fun to see but like can she do all that stuff she did!?!? I guess! Lots of Xmen nods in this episode. I believe Buckys (which used to be Caps) notebook said Claremont and Barry Windsor Smith in JT, nods to the guy responsible for really making the Xmen what they are and the guy who did the art for the Weapon X stuff during that Marvel Presents run. Originally, the internet was a buzz about this episode because supposedly Omega Red was to be revealed. This buzz came back in October I believe after a photo showed Zemo working with Bucky and Falcon (which has happened) and a -script leak. If you go back, the -script leak has definitely been changed. The Power Broker name is different (I forget what the -script called the character) and originally they were supposed to meet Batroc and Omega Red in Madripoor. Well we did get Batroc at the start so maybe he comes back but I’m guessing they removed Omega red or altered that. Having him be the first mutant in the MCU just doesn’t make a lot of sense. Was not expecting the Wakanda tie in at the end. So far every episode has revealed a person at the end....interested to see if that continues.

I agree its not terrible but it’s nowhere near as polished or intriguing or well acted as Wandavision. That show left me loving Wanda and Vision and wanting more. This so far has left me caring even less for Falcon and Bucky. Altho Zemos character seems promising, he is a total departure from the Zemo we knew.

I feel like the reason why people care about the tatooz now compared to years ago when it was listed in guides as having no effect on value, is because CGC and grading companies have gotten much better now than back then at catching this “marriage”.

Percent of collectors who would pay more for...
comicginger1789 replied to thunsicker's topic in Comics General
If I am buying a comic, or even looking in my collection to see if the copy I found is better than the one I have, I try to keep the price variant or newsstand copy BUT ONLY if it is in better condition. For example, I upgraded my VG copy of a Batman issue that was a CPV with a VF/NM regular direct copy because that meant more to me. As for paying more, I won’t. Presentation matters little to me. If the staples are slightly off or the book is slightly miscut, I am fine with it. I won’t pay more for perfection unless it’s a couple bucks max. Page quality...I just avoid certain types like severe tanning if possible and brittle pages. The only thing I could justify paying more for is a Pedigree book over a regular one. -
PGM Incredible Hulk #5
comicginger1789 replied to Albert Thurgood's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
With a stain that large I have a hard time going higher than 4.5 -
Please grade this Blue Bolt #119!
comicginger1789 replied to Point Five's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Yeah 5.0 from me too. Outside shot at 5.5 and I think 6.0 is out of range. -
PGM Incredible Hulk #5
comicginger1789 replied to Albert Thurgood's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Is that a stain running down the opening edge of the book? I can kinda see it in the girls red dress too. If it is, def not near mint. And it seems like a weird stain/discolouration. Hard to pinpoint how that affects the grade. -
PGM Fight Against Crime 10
comicginger1789 replied to gadzukes's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I’ll be harsher at 4.5-5.0 but I always am and usually when people share their grades they get back on golden agers, I’m always a half to an whole grade lower.... -

Comicgingers CGC Conundrum Contest!!!! Phase 1
comicginger1789 replied to comicginger1789's topic in Comics General
An early update! X-Men 129 leads the way for the first grouping while FF49 leads for the big big group. Still lots of time to join and help me pick! -
FOMO actually got me on this one...or at least it propelled me to acquire. But the condition was advertised as VG and to me it’s a good grade higher so the price was right.

Huge score for me, a near complete run of Vampirella. Missing 5 issues but all of the great Frazetta covers are there! And issue 1 of course!

Have you ever given the wrong one that made it hurt?????
comicginger1789 replied to god503's topic in Comics General
I was bidding on two eBay lots from a seller and won one but lost the other. When the lot I won arrived, it was the lot I had lost. I messaged the guy about the mix up (it was the better lot and I assumed the other guy would be upset) but he said the other guy left positive feedback and was happy so to keep it. I can’t remember what was in the lot though....was a number of years back. -

Is this rust or am I just going crazy?
comicginger1789 replied to BlackTerror98's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
If (and it’s a big if) the staple shown is starting to deteriorate, I’d wager a healthy sum that you are a good 50-100 years away before you see red rust that starts to damage your book in any way. -
