  1. What burned me the most about this was that Godzilla felt like an actual character in the 1st Godzilla movie and KOTM regardless of what you thought overall about those movies. Here only Kong felt like an actual character. The human scenes were mostly dumb
  2. The reason I started collecting (in the late 70's) was due to one night when my father returned home from work, walked down the basement and tossed me a Flash comic. So my Grail was
  3. As I mentioned earlier, I was a huge Neal Adams fan (and still am) so I was always on the lookup for big books of his that I could afford back then. Here are 2 of my fav slabbed ones of his work (and the only slabbed 2 from that GL/GA run though I eventually found reader copies of most of the rest)
  4. Amateur slight color touch - Someone took a black maker and colored in some light spots on the cover. According to my presser, it was in the upper right corner region of the front cover
  5. I collected from the late 70's to the late 80's off of either a paperboy or Burger King salary. Back then I started collecting DC and was big into Neal Adams' work. Then I started collecting Marvel and initially got into the X-Men, Silver Surfer & Galactus. So every week I'd see the big issues hanging on the wall and wishing I'd had the money to buy all the gems I wanted but I could only pick them up slowly. X-Men 94 & GL 76 were the big ones back then that I initially wanted but the GL 76's must have been in better shape as it was always more expensive than the 94's I would see. So my 1st 'grail' was a mid grade X-Men 94 30-40 years later I submitted it and found out it had some minor color touch. Then I found a post from someone who frequented the same LCS and mentioned how the owner would touch up some of the comics. Luckily none of the others I bought from there & submitted had any. Even though it's a PLOD it'll always be my 1st big buy. Eventually I saved up enough and picked up GSX 1, FF48-50, Hulk 181 & others. One day I even found a beat up GL 76 in the dollar bins and scooped it up faster than the Flash would have. Dollar wise the Hulk 181 8.5 I bought from them would be the winner
  6. some 40 years ago I bought an X-Men 94 off the wall of my LCS for something like $10 Two years ago I submitted it as part of a batch to CGC. It came back as C-1 restored A few months ago another poster, who happened to go to the same LCS back then, told me one of the owners used to touch up some of the books before putting them out for sale. Luckily any of the rest that I bought from there were clean. Obviously having bought it that long ago means I'm not taking a loss from grading it but it would've been nice to have a clean copy.
  7. As a proud owner of a 8.5. I was quite happy about a month ago when they were selling for 7-7.5 k A few days ago one went for 12k.
  8. when I go to eBay sold listings, the 6.5 Hulk 181 has 7,999 crossed out and indicates best off accepted. Tried listing the page source and searching for "TaxEx" to see the accepted price but nothing found.
  9. Don't buy the version with the Jack Kirby signature. It's a fake - everybody knows his wife signed it for him....
  10. How are the signatures on the Declaration of Independence holding up?
  11. I am certainly not a power seller so I can't say if Pirate Ship is better than whatever discount you get. They have never been more than what Ebay was going to charge me. It's a good backup to have if you do sales outside of Ebay. Boardies here have mentioned them which is how I found out. I've used them multiple times.
  12. well their old chart for registered mail starts at $57 for 11-15 books and $38 for 5 books. Maybe a $40 diff insurance cost if a small submission keeps you under 1K and a large submission puts you at 10K It's $40 to ships 5 books back in the $500-1K range so 3 shipments of 5 books doesn't seem to make it worth it. All depends on what you expected value is. Anyway I would not ship comics to CGC in a bubble mailer w cardboard. I'll ship dollar book to Ebay buyers that way as it's adequate protection for that, but Priority Mail boxes are free so I say double box them and pay Priority Mail (check out Pirate Shipping as they have good discounts) vs trying to get by with bubble mailers & 1st class postage
  13. When making scans, I just slide one backing board under it and another on top and flip it over.
  14. wow I have a 9.4 #113 - I wonder how much of an overpayment I could get for that?
  15. post here instead https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/50-comics-market-want-to-buy/ though it helps to establish a presence first, especially with an expensive comic
  16. Saw this ~2 years ago. It's in the vein of Spinal Tap (which all the older boardies should know but if you're one of the younger ones and never heard of it - it is a must see) It's about 4 young adult Scandanavians who have a heavy metal band and are just getting thru life while they are trying to get to the big outdoor metal festival where it's their dream to play in. That description won't make you run for the remote but the movie has a big heart, quite funny and just a very very enjoyable watch.
  17. Wife was out of town for the night due to a wedding shower and wouldn't be interested in a 4 hr JL movie, so I signed up for HBO Max figuring I can at least get 1 months worth with that, WW84 & Godzilla (not that there isn't plenty to watch - just not enough free time) Anyway what a diff between it and the theatrical version. I'd be hard pressed to cut 2 hours out of this one for another theatrical version. I'm glad the dopey stuff was cut out (like the trapped russian family). Steppenwolf was a better villian now and of course Cyborg was greatly improved
  18. A friend in work told to watch this and I'm quite glad he did. This is a hillybilly horror spoof with a big heart - not stupid funny like in many other cheap spoofs. Even my wife, who wouldn't normally watch movies like this, got big laughs out of it when I told her to sit down and watch it with me cause I wasn't turning it off.
  19. A cat burglar, played by the always interesting Dennis Leary, holds what turns out to be an unhappily marred couple hostage. You can imagine how it goes from there. Another one I saw a loooong time ago
  20. I thought the Urban version was lightyears better than the Stallone version. I hope they do another one
  21. I think Brazil was mentioned in the early pages. This is another Terry Gilliam film which was popular when it came out. I've watched it exactly once and about all I can remember is that I liked it.
  22. I collected late 70's to late 80's so my ideas are from that period. #2 would be Frank Miller's Daredevil. Janson's inks were great as was the panel layouts.
  23. Alan Moore Swamp Thing- totally revamped the character. Plus it had fabulous artwork
  24. Been a long time since I've seen Holes - plus that's 2 in a row with Sigourney Weaver! Now for the trifecta! This one was out a decade ago and I see it as just a love letter to the Horror film genre. I can watch it every time I come across it Plus I try to speed read the "odds board" where the bets are posted in that one scene to catch Easter Eggs.
