  1. I've been slowly adding back to my collection since I sold off a chunk a few years ago, but in the last week or so, I've been ramping that up a bit :)

I used to have a 9.8w of this and now do again thanks to Qualitycomix :)

    Good to see you, bud!

Good to see you too...looks like at least a few familiar faces are still around

  2. Jortner update:

I've been trying to get my money owed to me from Jortner since August 2007. You would not believe the number of lies that I was told along the way. Typical lies included "check is in the mail" or "I got this great silver age collection for you.". So I was shocked last week, when he called me and subsequently deposited slightly MORE than he owed me into my bank account after 11 months of dodging and evading.

Methinks that my good friend Mark Zaid deserves more than a little bit of recognition for the hard work in tracking down Jortner's multiple victims and getting everything organized for a possible court date. (worship)(worship)(worship)

I can think of no other reason why Jortner would finally make good on payment.

    Congrats Brent!

Let's hope he somehow got the money by legitimate means and isn't still robbing Paul to pay Peter. Seems like he got in over his head at one point and had a deal that didn't recoup his money owed, then continued to scam others playing a sad game of catch up, that never really caught up.

Hope all the others get theirs soon too and great job Mark for helping and bringing this to light!

  3. Posting here is similar to posting to your myspace page or any other public site. Remember employers are actively doing internet searches to "Dig up the dirt" on potential hires; so what you say online does not go unnoticed.

    "Big Brother is always watching"

That said I haven't seen anything revolting posted here that would really mean much to anyone else. I'm here for the comics, not the arrogant attitudes or dirt.

Fortunately I love my job, my boss is the greatest guy in the world, all my co-workers are swell, and I never go onto these boards during work hours.

  4. Really, really wierd. I just had a deja vu. That was strange.

Well, anyways, back on topic, I've probably gone just beyong some people's line and stayed well behind other's.

For me, who I am is not a big secret to share, nor are pics of me and my family. That doesn't reall cross my personal line. I can respect others not doing so though. Usually, if I feel I want to share some personal stuff, I'll do so via PMs with members.

I worried a lot more having my daughter out playing around and greeting people comming to our garage sale this last summer. I couldn't help having to consider that anyone of those people could be some sexual predator and now knowing where my daughter lived. I actually tried to keep her inside as much as possible during the sale, but there were times I had to tend to her and the sale simultaniously.

Danger is all around us, and we always have to be weary whether online or not.

  5. I have a hard time with a lot of Timelys because they all look the same. You'd have to give "classic" notation to about 2/3 of the Schomburg covers.

Classic should imply a run that stands out above the others. When someone mentions the title, that cover should pop into your head. When someone mentions the issue you should know it instantly. With a lot of Timelys, I still say, "which one is that?"

Not that they're not great covers, it's just saturation.

Same goes for moderns. There are a LOT of great images out there....every month. They can't all be classic.

Yeah, I feel the same way about 2/3rds of Neal Adams' covers. Looking through Batman titles he did covers for, I kept thinking, "Wow, that's not a classic? It should be".

  6. The more I think about it...Will every "bondage cover" eventually become a "classic bondage cover" as it becomes older - thus becomming "classic" as in "old"?

Like take Spider-Woman #6. It says "Bondage Cover". Now fast forward 50 or 60 years. Will it them become a "classic bondage cover"? Just struck me looking at those.

What makes a cover "classic"? It's impact at the time, over the years or it's age?

That's really hard to say. Even when it comes to golden age books, I'd say less than 5% of the bondage covers are designated as "classic". Again, I really don't know what the criteria is in choosing one book over the other.

Yeah, I have to admit I'm not familiar with a vast amount of GA material. It was just seeing that from issues #89-94 CGC designated 3 classic bondage covers for one series. I wonder what made each one classic in CGC's opinion?

  8. Im no rookie to shipping fragile items.[ Im sorry Ray is unhappy but I dont feel its due to anything Ive done. The pics he posted show a jumbled mess which more points to mishandling.

So shipping hundreds of unbagged, unboarded books loose in a box with newspaper packing is how the professionals do it? :screwy:

Well, I know 1 boardie I won't be buying from in the future.

No doubt! The guy spent some serious coin to buy these books and no way should they have just been loosely stacked (face-up or sideways) surrounded by crumpled newspaper. If you weren't going to bag and board them, then atleast place them in small groups between heavy cardboard surrounded by bubblewrap. This would have been much better. Everyone knows, or should know, that items get very shuffled going through the mail.

These were doomed from the beginning.

  9. This has got to be the most inane thread I've read in the five years I've been here, and all the more reason to never venture out from the Golden Age and Marketplace sections.

Personally, I think Borock should boot all of us. Save him and the Mods from having to deal with such juvenille nonsense.

I get too much a kick out of these kind of threads to ever kick you folks off :baiting::devil::kidaround:

Besides, I like you all too much to see you go :acclaim:

BTW......I personally do not mind OT threads if they are few and far between in CG ONLY. I like talking music and movies with fellow COMIC collectors because I care what they think. I do not care what sports or coin fans think. I love the charity threads and Secrect Santa/Chanukh Harrry/Athiest Andy/Budda Barry/etc. threads. And I really love the OT threads when one of is in trouble where we help out or where one of us needs advice as long as they do not turn into trash someone or something threads.

We get to know each other and become more of a community. The fact that I know so much about many of you, is the reason some of us have become friends and the reason I love this community so very much.

That said, the mods seem to leave it alone as long as you keep it to a minimum and use OT to begin you thread. If the title states OT, anyone who wants can just simply avoid it.

At the end of the day, we have always been a bit flexible on these boards, and I think the mods do a great job that they work very hard at! (worship)They also do not get the credit they deserve (tsk) The rules are the rules, but even I have broken them once in a blue moon.

    That's my 2c (worthless lol )

And, hey, let's be careful out there!
