Here is my 8.0 for comparison, the front is close to flawless, there is tiny chip at the lower staple and there is a slight bindery tear at the bottom. On the back, some of the discoloration is just due to the slab, but the fingerprints along the spine and on Frankenstein's face are there as is the color break in the lower left corner.

    That is a beautiful copy!
Thank you so much for posting this!  What an awesome piece and an incredible grading reference!

    Great book :headbang:

I submitted the single highest graded copy ( SS 9.2 W signed on the interior by Byrne).  Been looking for a NM copy ever since I sold that one. :(

Front cover looks great, but I think the back cover on this one will keep it from grading higher than VF

Thanks for the feedback!  The back has some minor wear for sure (I'm thinking the back is more VF, maybe VF+, but I'm truly hoping the totality of the book sends it a bit higher, but you are in a much better position to be objective :).

A Signed Nightmare 20?!?!  That's phenomenal!!! That age old question arises for me (but insert signed Nightmare 20)...Tis better to have love and lost than never to have loved at all?

If this was a comic, I'd say very little chance at a 9.0. It seems to me that magazines are judged on a different scale, but I don't have a lot of data points to prove my thesis. This is definitely nicer than a magazine I have graded at 8.0, so I'll say 8.5-9.2 is possible. IDK what your experience is sending magazines to CGC, but it is glacially slow recently, even by their standards. I have a magazine in limbo from the Claremont signing (4 months since he was there), while the comics were mailed at the beginning of June. I have seen no movement of any magazine in my queue. Just be forewarned.

Thank you for this!  Magazines with their greater surface area tend to be graded with greater leniency by my experience.  And you’re right! It’s very slow- I’m considering fast track and May even shoot for a press but not sure- but when I look at cost my wallet cries out in pain 😂

Well brother, congratulations on such a great find! This looks like a very nice copy. (thumbsu

Some of the common flaws on this issue are small tears at the staples---your copy looks like it's confined to the bottom staple only. And the back cover often has numerous small edge tears, presumably from a dull paper cutter at the factory.

And when looking for a 9.0, you have a chance if the front cover is Near Mint and the back cover is Very Fine...

Gosh! I always appreciate your insight!  Thank you!

  5. Greatly appreciate thoughts on grade.  Was excited to find a copy of this magazine in such nice shape and considering having it graded- may benefit from a press .  .really  curious if this has a shot at 9 or higher. Back has some minor wear-e.g  minor bottom left corner rub - not a color breaking crease. Hoping the totality of condition will bring it up. Thanks again!

Added a batch of new Skywalds.

Big thanks to Richard and Bedrock City Comic Co.!

    Sorry for the crappy pics.

    The Scream 10 is a sweet 9.6 W Top 1 of 1.

Scream 5 is a small upgrade. Still one of my favorite Skywald Covers, and was my first Skywald book many years ago.

Never had a decent Scream 9 or a Scream 6.

Definitely would have been a buyer  on the 1, 12,13,14 and 18- those prices were crazy low in my eyes.  Not sure why someone would have listed so low considering the recent trend up on Vamps- but as stated, someone had a good day. Have to tell myself that I can’t always get every good deal but a bit of remorse seeing this thread that I didn’t look yesterday- stupid work got in the way 😂

Vamp 7 at under $600 was another great price.

I hear you Greg… if I had a buck for how many times I was a few minutes too late.  It’s quite impressive the surgical precision and laser quickness they sniff out treasures

Barely missed some great skywalds the other day- literally just by minutes but alas, just wasn’t meant to be.  I have to remind myself that I’ve been on the end of some poor chap feeling like he missed a gold mine by but a few minutes because I got there first or got a winning bid—I say this only to try and make myself feel better LOL

itll be fun to see if/when some nice slabbed skywalds are put up on display on the threads- kudos to the guy who got there first👍🏻

What are the chances these show up in the famous, Bounty's Halloween Harvest of Horrors??? Asking for a friend .   Man those are sharp...I'd say we all needs us some friends like the one who picked those up for you.  That's a solid buddy right there.

Lets bump this up with something cool: Not the best copy but an extremely tough grail to find

This is awesome.  I happened to be staying in Astoria Oregon on National Goonies Day (June 7th).   When I was scheduling my trip, I had no idea I'd landed on the 37th anniversary of the Goonies release in theaters.  Has to be one of the most serendipitous situations I've ever experienced.  What a cool place to visit/explore.

Managed to snag these 2 Skywalds.

I've never seen Nightmare 16 in decent shape for sale, like EVER!

So I had to grab it.

Nightmare 17 is another one I've needed as well.

(Edit yep, just checked the CGC census. Nightmare 16 has 1 in 9.0 and 2 in 8.0, that's it)

    Man RIp,

That 16 is What I would consider the best of the most overlooked Skywald mags…and I’m sure it’s only overlooked because you just don’t see them come up like the one you got there. Amazing find!

You had to have dug deep to find that 16…you could go a lifetime or two without finding one near as nice -bravo Guy👍🏻(worship)

  11. to answer you, “Has he been banned from this Board?? :whatthe:

Nope!  He is just not on the boards-

no one asked you to protect all of us hobbyists. Your rant sounds like a personal problem and so again I’ll suggest that you reach out to the seller directly if you have an issue

Ah, so the seller is a shady SOB. They're going on the "Do Not Buy From" list (thumbsu

WHY DOES DAVE'S BUSINESS PRACTICE BOTHER YOU SO MUCH ? - WHY DIDN'T YOU SUBMIT A BID TO BUY THE MAGAZINE ? WHY ARE YOU CARRYING ON ABOUT THINGS THAT DON'T CONCERN YOU ?  This isn’t the kind of forum where we tear each other down.  Dave is a longtime seller, has demonstrated being a person of integrity and has some of the most incredible magazines that can be found.  If you have a problem with him, I would suggest speaking with him directly instead of airing your rants on a forum where he is unable to even defend himself

NO -  This Seller is not a SOB - His stellar Feedback as a seller speaks for itself.  He sells locally in his area as well as on eBay and where ever the right offer is submitted is where the item sells - Also the listing on eBay was "Best Offer" Not an auction so everybody had an equal opportunity.

Sounds right to me given it's relatively low distribution in higher grades. It's been a tough book in high grade for a while now.1179938077_ScreenShot2022-07-04at2_52_26PM.thumb.png.307e70b6832c610b8ade11bcb3368bdd.png

I wonder what a 9.8 would go for these days.  Possibly $5k or more.

With the price point of a 9.2....I think I'll be able to swim in the Fine range...maybe
