  1. I usually prefer to show the listings I've actually bought, but again, this is pretty mind blowing...I just don't know where Dave In Detroit gets his stuff, but 4 Eerie Tales in amazing condition!

Sounds like he's got a sense of humor too if you read the description.  I just don't have deep enough pockets for books of this caliber, but he's also very clear that the listed price is not what he's expecting.

If he's able to pull four Eerie Tales out of his hat, what else is in the hat?!?!?! :ohnoez:

Reading the Seller's Description: first thing it says... "{ The Price Posted Is "Not" The Price } - Pictures are not the best, they have glare reflection on the plastic case."  Unlike some sellers, I guess when he added Best Offer, he meant it...

But that said, If anyone has a 9.2 copy to sell at 381 or somewhere in that ballpark, please give me the first shot!  (thumbsu  I was just shocked to see a slabbed high grade copy come up, as they seldom seem to ever come to market:cheers:

  3. If I know the seller, like I think I do, he's probably not expecting that.  But then again, Ebay is the Wild West and for some of these crazy hard to find books, slabbed in high grade .... Well, Let's just say I've seen some things in my day while on ThEBAY:preach:

But if anyone's seriously interested, they should totally reach out to him.  Never hurts to ask for what you want :headbang: And that is a nice book to say the least.

  4. I guess this post might better fit in a thread of "this could be in your this week in your magazine collection", but there's a REALLY nice high grade copy of Creepy 32 CGC.  I've done business with the seller--his feedback speaks for itself, but I can vouch that he's honest, and I know he'd prefer an offline sale to save everyone money as Ebay has gone off the deep end.  But If interested you ought to reach out to him or send an offer https://www.ebay.com/itm/195154418417?hash=item2d701c1af1:g:f0oAAOSwQFBisR8m&autorefresh=true

In my experience, Overstreet is grossly out of touch with the current market on pretty much every single book with regard to valuations.  Pricing many of these books in higher grades (especially Eerie Publications, Stanleys, and Skywalds), is pretty much a toss up.  The market on them is still volatile and high grade copies show up haphazardly, at times in venues in which very few magazine collectors are looking (Heritage, etc.).  Which unfortunately, just leaves having to search sold listings at various venues but even that isn't a very good barometer.

As an example, there was an exceptionally rare copy of a non-Warren comic magazine up for auction with a high minimum bid.  But the minimum bid was still a fraction of what that magazine should go for considering how scarce it is in high grade.  I picked it up for the minimum bid but I would never sell it for that much and it could be another 10 years or so before a similar copy shows up.  So, if you had another copy for sale in the same grade, and you used that sale as a guide, you'd be selling cheap.

Wish I had a better answer for you.  Perhaps other seasoned collectors can impart more wisdom than I have.  I would suggest @oakman29 but that man never sells anything so he's no help.

Randall, as always, GREATLY appreciate the insight you're willing to impart.  Thanks so much!

The marriage remains as long as I can settle for electronic versions of any un-WARREN-ted interests--and so far, that's working quite nicely. ).

Somebody threw in an electronic copy of the Psycho 1972 Annual when I was buying something else, but so far, that's my only Skywald.

…that fateful day someone slipped me an electronic version of a skywald mag…down the rabbit hole…😎.

That's as I understand it, and yes, it would be totally completist and nothing but completist.  I really wasn't targeting ANY of these movie specials and other specials at all--until I accidentally got four of them in this last batch that I thought was a complete Warren Presents set.  So what, I'm going to stop with four out of nine?  Fuhgeddaboudit...

Btw, How’s the marriage? Still considering Skywald?

I guess I should have waited to post a "beginning of May" update instead of yesterday's "end-of-April" update, because it was kind of a profitable day for me (going back to yesterday evening's poker games).

Today, I managed to wrangle deals for:

CREEPY #29:  My CREEPY run is now complete, as are the EERIEs and the VAMPIs (pending the safe arrival of #10, #29, and the VAMPI Annual, of course).  (Except for EERIE #1, but NOBODY has EERIE #1.)

I saw an auction for 29 that was winding down today and was quietly rooting for you.👍. Glad you nabbed one- congrats!

This might be old news but Who's going to pony up for this baby?

    Vampirella 19 9.9

So that was on Clink, but a couple months ago I believe...not sure what it sold for then, but I'll confidently say it's listed as being more now.  By my recollection it went for less than what I anticipated.  It's the most iconic vampi cover IMHO.

Thought that might have been the one that’s been on eBay listed at $1,195. Nope, that one is still there. What did this one close at?

scream 1 such an awesome cover—hardly ever comes up and in the last month there have been several high grades at auction.
in general I’ve been told high grade skywalds are not only few and far between but the ones out there are buried deep in peoples collections so with several of these comin up recently  wondering if these were from estate sales - yikes.  But that one above seemed to be a really sharp copy- white pages even.

itd be nice if a raw in the wild presented itself as I’m finding slabbed higher grades keep climbing.  Not sure what the long time members think of this and other recent prices. If the above was a surprise - high or low or just as expected? But that cover is awesome

Given the endless number of emails I receive each week promoting exclusive private signing events, I don't see them temporarily halting new submissions to get caught up.  Companies usually imagine themselves being "agile" from a business perspective so they are probably going to try to enact changes while continuing to operate business as usual.

Building the plane while in flight is what I think I'm hearing you say.  I can dig it...but I'll be watching from the ground

Halting submissions right now might be akin to handing out coupons to the grading services across the street.

I don't disagree, but if the voiced concerns in this thread are merely a small percentage of a choir of concerns, one has to be thinking long-game for brand sustainability...that's where a targeted approach may be called for in terms of whether they enact moratoriums
