  1. Off the top of my head, without much refined thought....

Anything 1978 or newer, with a few expectations are only worth a lot in high grade.

BA keys can have value in any grade, but the rest generally won't. Some genres like BA horror and BA romance might command a premium in high grade.

SA keys are obviously valuable in any grade. Popular SA marvel (FF, ASM...) is usually worth something in any grade.

Atomic age can be a mixed bag. They usually are worth something, but not as much as you might think.

GA isn't always a slam dunk. Heros, war, Horror and romance usually do well. Westerns and funny animals not so much.

I think it depends on what I'm collecting.  I have a run of High grade Bronze horror. For SA keys I've bought lower grade copies and slowly upgraded over time.  And then GA books I'm generally open to lower grade.

These days I'm primarily buying raw books from the 50s. Post code and pre code mostly and usually nothing crazy expensive.  I'm perfectly happy with low grade readers. I do like to have presentable covers because I honestly just enjoy flipping through boxes of old books and occasionally reading some stories.

    Thx man.

Interesting, so if you search in gallery you also see a picture of the Item.

But what is the difference between searching in gallery and in census? - because in census there are no pictures of the Items.

Also I am at the moment starting to collecting some comics that I loved in my childhood and I think I would still buy this one because
I am a fan of Spawn and I want it in my collection.
    - but I have also seen a youtube video where a guy always lists investible comics for the future and
he also listet this Spawn #1 Comic.

With 33K in the census can this still be a high valuable product in the late future (30-50 years or even later)

    What do you think?

It was a big deal when I was a kid too and I actually bought my brother a 9.8 for Christmas years ago.

As @Grendel72 said, there see 33k on the census and 50% of those are in 9.8 (16k+).  I don't see it ever being worth a ton just because there are so many.

I also suspect alot of people have had this book tucked away for 30 years and all those haven't hit the census. Which means in 20 years that 33k will likely be much higher.

I think you should buy a nice copy because it's sentimental to you. But I wouldn't expect it to grow a ton.

  4. I'm a big fan of Dick Ayers and think he played in an important role in Atlas and Marvel.

I also like the original Ghost Rider and have paid up for the 40s version. The Western Genre has really never garnered a lot of demand. And when I think about my collection, the only two Westerns I've bought, have been a wonderful Baker cover and an Ayers Ghost Rider.

Thanks for all the info. I am not new to this though, I have 3 other books signed by Stan, and one other he had nothing to do with but it's a newer comic and it is going for about 650 and it is through dynamic forces. The reason I was asking about my ghost rider comic was because I could not find the book with either one of their signatures on it let alone both of them. So I figured for that reason alone it would be worth significantly more than my other ones. Stan Lee was the editor on the book, I know he didn't create the character. I am a ghost rider fan, he is my #2 favorite character. I wouldn't have got it signed by him if I thought it would depreciate the value, which is why I got it signed by both of them. Plus seeing that it can not find it with both sigs shouldn't that make it more valuable? I found a copy about a year ago, same grade, starting bid 1500, signed by just Roy Thomas.

Stan's signatures generally increase the value a bit, but he signed so many books it doesn't appreciate the way one would expect.

As for "Darlin" Dick Ayers, I'm not sure how much demand is out there, but personally I would be more excited to own an Ayers signature than Stan's.

There just aren't as many Ayer's signatures out there.

  6. Sales data is a little tough.

There are no recent signature series sales in 7.0. The last one was in 2017 and only signed by Stan.  That went for $230.

A blue label 7.0 sold for $550 this month. If it's CGC signature witnessed I could see $800-$900.

If is the other guys and unwitnessed it's likely less.

It's a very cool book! Always loved Ayers!

Sounds like an auction house might be the way to go. Any recommendations guys? In the past I have dealt with Profiles in History on other kinds of items. Do they do comics?

I would call around and talk with each of them.  They will all have different fees and timeliness and you can figure out what is right for you.

    Comiclink.com

    Comicconnect.com

    Mycomicshop.com

    HeritageAuctions.com

Those are the big 4 for comics. Heritage is the biggest and usually gets the best results, but they will charge the highest fees.  You may be able to negotiate the fees away, but for these books, I probably wouldn't go with them.

Comiclink and comicconnect are both great and easy to work with. Fees are very similar.  I believe they'll both help you with grading, but i would call for specifics.

Mycomicshop, has a bit of a more personalized feel.  It's family run and they will make things easy. I would still call and ask about fees. They have weekly auctions and featured auctions. You'll want to be in the featured (which these will be).  They will yield the strongest results.

    Good luck!

What do you guys think about the idea of selling it all as a package deal or several package deals compared to single issue offerings? Just curious because some of the Batman, Superman, Brave and the Bold, Blackhawk, Doom Patrol, Sea Devils, Justice League, Challengers of the Unknown, Flash, Green Lantern, S.H.I.E.L.D, Dr. Strange, Tales of Astonish and of this era don't seem to be too much in demand.

It will be harder to sell as a package and you likely won't maximize the value.

These books are worth a good amount. So finding someone with the capital and desire to buy them all will be hard.

Realistically you'll end up selling to dealers (who would love to buy them).  And while I can recommend trustworthy dealers who will give a fair offer, they will need to make money too!  Which means you'll be looking at $.50 on the dollar. Maybe a little better.

If you leave them unslabbed (which I would also love), unfortunately they'll be harder to sell as well. The average collector wants the assurance that they aren't restored or trimmed or missing pages.  That is the value of CGC.

There are other options though. If you want to sell them, you could consign them to Mycomicshop. They can take care of grading and then sell them for you at auction. I believe you would pay a 10% auction fee + the cost of grading.

If that is route your interested in, they are pretty active on these boards and could answer questions.

In my opinion, it's the easiest way to get a fair return with minimal work.
