I still am not sure that's even a $5k comic, though I'd like to have a copy. I'm still getting outbid on a lot of the mid-grade stuff in PCH. Depending on the comics - if they haven't been bid up during the 2020-2022 run-up, I've been seeing a lot of lower and mid-grade comics getting higher bids. Or maybe it's just me thinking that. As usual Matt Baker art seems to still be strong. There are some issues people were paying hundreds for that were kind of mundane covers when it comes to his art. It seems to all still depend on who's watching the auctions, and who's got interest when the auction comes up. Again - IMO.
I don't disagree and I have done no research to back up my comment.
I buy a lot of PCH, but I don't generally chase Church copies. On the lower end of the market, I've been having a lot more luck in the past few months. G to VG copies seem to be slipping into my budget much more frequently.

I would return it asap.
Something like that should be disclosed.

Big hit on this pedigree book! Last sale was $11.1K in 2021. Highest graded 9.4 copy sold for $15.6K in Nov 2023.
Black Cat Mystery #35 Mile High Pedigree (Harvey, 1952) CGC NM- 9.2
It's felt like GA books were holding the line pretty well. But it feels like we are seeing more cracks on that end of the market.

Here are the Session 1A and 1B results from ComicLink. I tried to throw a few more "random" books in this time for whatever it is worth. Results seem to be all over the map - some titles seem to be pretty frosty right now while they're a few signs of potential stabilization for others.
As a reminder - 2021 averages are now gone from GPA.
SA keys still seem to be crashing.
FF1, Hulk 1, X1 feel pretty affordable in that low / mid grade range.

Comics at 11:18! Thank me later
That was fun to watch. I do wonder what else the husband had. Everything was a key or semi-key, so if the other 60 are like that, he's got a pretty nice collection.

I did 4 or 5 years ago.
No issues. I made a reasonable offer on a HOS92. They accepted.
I had read horror stories about how long they take to ship, but I got it within a few weeks. It was a graded book, so no problem with grading.
Honestly, it's probably the last book I've bought from them. I had a good experience, I just don't like their site and never seem to find what I'm looking for.

And I'm absolutely not placing blame on you in any way but we all have to be very careful whom we trust with our books and our money. I think about all the guys who have recently set up shop pressing and/or submitting books and I wonder how many of them are a hairs width from disappearing with customer's books and money. And I say that knowing of a couple local stores that went under and customer's books and money disappeared. One was predictable but the other was around for a while and I really liked the guys who ran it.
Yup. It's been eye opening. I realize i got very lucky when I needed restoration work.
Hero was on the short list I considered. On the surface, they were the most professional. They had the cleanest website, two locations, little pictures of the staff.
I actually picked Kenny because I had started talking to Susan. When covid hit, her priorities changed and she strongly recommended Kenny. If she hadn't, I would probably be in this mess with everyone else.
So I don't blame any of the victims. I think we've all had to make decisions with important books and two years ago, Hero looked like a pretty safe choice.

I don't follow these titles, so does anybody know what's up with this price? It seems bonkers, at first, but I don't know. There is some rarity, I guess, but of the 21 graded copies, it looks like 11 are 9.4 or higher (same for a some of the other issues I looked at from what I can tell) which makes me kind of nervous.
Did you see what the 9.8 #22 sold for? Yowzers.
I don't collect this particular title, but I can tell you High Grade Bronze horror is getting annoyingly expensive!!
I say annoyingly as someone trying to put together a High Grade BA HOS run.
A few years ago you could pick up most issues in 9.0 or better for under $100. Adam's and Wrightson covers generally commanded a premium. But now all issues seem to be a few hundred dollars and there is alot of competition for HG raw issues.

A few recent wins.
2 from @mycomicshop recent auction and 1 from @Dale Roberts annual take-fest (my lone win this year).
The Speed Carter (Atlas) with the Harvey file tag is my favorite!! I've seen a few comics with these tags, but this is the first one I've owned.
For the record, I took 3 pictures within 10 seconds standing in the exact same spot and posted them exactly the same way. And each picture posted in a different direction.

No, I did not get any money back.
I'm really sorry about this. Glad you got your book back safely. I know as collectors that often takes prioroty for us. Still i hope everyone pursues legal action.
The best case scenario is people may get their books back and just have their money stolen. The worst case scenario both the money and books are gone forever.
This is totally unacceptable and Hero / Mike need to be held accountability.

I don't believe he can see it until he has 50 posts here.
@CGC Mike can help.

Time flies fast because that would have been probably five years ago. I don’t recall who bought it though
Thanks Rick - out of curiosity, do you remember if it was a #4?
-
I may have this wrong - But a few years ago, @Ricksneatstuff was selling an All-Negro Comics.
I can't remember the number, but I remember him mentioning how rare it was.
I don't remember if it sold or who it sold to. I tagged him for more insight and hopefully my memory isn't completely off!!
Very cool collection! I've never owned any of those books!

I love your Superman WWII covers.
Congrats

Hahaha you're talking about one of the most notorious over-pricers on eBay. That's just one example, everything he lists is priced like he's holding the book for ransom. Not a pleasant guy to deal with, either.
The whole business model for some of these guys is to wait for that one person who's desperate and/or uninformed enough to do something crazy.
There are alot of threads about him.
If I remember correctly he's perfectly legit. Long time collector who sets high prices and doesn't mind waiting.
(I hope I'm not confusing him with any of the more nefarious sellers we have threads about)

I never made that connection. FF2 is also without costumes.
Why would DC care if they were featuring Super Heros? Did it have to do with distribution? Or are thinking they didn't want their competitors to see a shift in strategy?
