  1. May not be terrifying... it is freaking gorgeous! and horror enough
  2. really something spectacular in person. Al's skill at adding shadow makes the images of John Carter and Deja Thoris literally pop out of the page as if they're rendered in 3D. Love having it up on the wall. It's just, yeah Wow. :)
  3. I picked these two up together. The drawing is a concept piece for a web of horror cover painting. One of his more brilliant covers in fact. This image just gets me every time I see it. The splash is house of mystery 188. Both pieces are early in his career. And just two wonderful examples of my favorite artist’s work
  4. Al Williamson from the Edgar Rice Burroughs portfolio, and also the back cover for Al Williamson Adventures...a pride and joy piece for me. The first piece I had to really dig deep on. When I saw that it was actually available, I knew that I couldn’t let anyone else have my piece
  5. Not last, but just last before going to bed. And certainly not least. From Creepy #12 by Steve Ditko’s Blood of the Werewolf! A true piece of Horror Comic history, and part of his finest body of work IMO.
  6. And then my 2nd and 3rd pieces from the master of macabre Mr. Wrightson. The monster is a concept drawing for the monster in Dead she said, and ... I mean zombie Denny Colt, C’mon! No brainer! was lucky enough to grab them from Bernie at Heroes in 2010, and 2011... they will never ever be sold ever.the monster has been framed on my wall for the past ten years almost
  7. Horror is the backbone of my collection let’s start out with my first piece of OA ever walking dead: the governor killing Hershel at the prison. Less of a horror theme to the pages themselves but def a horror book.
  8. Dude it’s fantastic! I really really love it. I’ve been hunting for a new frontier piece for a while and I’m so glad I grabbed it, especially after underbidding on the story page that the Donnellies have in their inventory now, and seeing them put it up for over 2x what it went for on comic link. My understanding is that Darwyn drew it specially to be associated with new frontier, which is neat.
  9. Naw! Instagram is Facebook with far less emphasis on guilting people into “say something nice about me” and much much less “look at how “cool” or hot I am” it’s more about “look at my dweeby dog doing dumb/funny stuff” and a lot of comic artists post cool stuff, which I really like. I think it sucks you in less too. At least it sucks me in less. < 30 min a day.
  10. I love Darwin Cooke. I just picked this sweet Challengers of the Unknown piece up from the last big comic link auction it was published in the illustration section of the absolute hard cover edition of new frontier in color as a 10c golden age cover
  11. Yeah I stopped using Facebook 3 years ago... maybe longer. I don’t want to get back on it. I do use instagram but not a bunch. Mainly to follow artists I’m interested in to keep up on what they’re working on
  12. i think any time you’re talking about a series like the walking dead where there’s just tons of pages. The value with staying power is going to come from key moments in the story. Whether that’s covers from key books, or key internal pages. The page that Phil originally described doesn’t excite me, but Phil’s collection of moments from issue 48 does. It SUPER excites me. But so would Negan beating the out of Glenn, or Eugene biting Dwight in the balls, or Dale laughing maniacally while cannibals eat his tainted flesh... or any number of fantastic moments both before or after the fateful day at the prison. I also disagree that there isn’t staying power in the OA. I think the hype train from the show has pretty much run its course. There may be a little more tapering but it’s mostly done, and then the rest will be natural increase driven by nostalgia and love of the series over time like any other thing. It just depends on whether you’re looking to get off sooner, or if you intend to hold on for the long haul. My pages have been up on my wall in frames for a decade because I love them . In short be picky, just like any other art collecting. It should be a page you love, not the page that’s available. And if the pages you love aren’t available, then wait for them to pop up and keep your ear to the track. That’s the real guarantee you need Phil... that you’ll love them. That way if they go down in value you at least got to love them and that’s worth money too. It’s also why all my saving doesn’t go to art... gotta have those pure money investments too... and I don’t think art fits that mold.
  13. New edition to my CAF: Steve Ditko Creepy, Blood of the Werewolf! Story page. This one is a big goal checked off. https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1562798
  14. New Addition to my CAF Gallery: Murder Falcon Issue #8 complete. I couldnt put all of the scans into a single posting on CAF, so here they are until i figure out how I want to post them on CAF. Daniel's art is just amazing! https://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp? GCat=132356
  15. Man that page of Carl killing Shane was The page that sealed my fate / love of the Walking Dead! Fantastic!!!
  16. Man, the keeping it to 3 is tough! My Al Williamson ERB portfolio plate for sure. This, I think, is the coolest piece of original art that I own. Not only was I interested in a piece of Al Williamson Sci-Fi art, but this specific page was one my list of AW pages that I'd like to own. Really, really admired it the first time I ever saw it on the back dust cover of Al Williamson Adventures... if you haven't read it, go find a copy. Great compilation of some of his best IMO pulp work. Second, I'm going to put my 3 consecutive Walking Dead Pages from issue 48. They are the Death of Hershel, and our confirmation that Judith was killed with Lori. They are the first pages of art that I ever bought. I picked them up together back in 2010 or 11 from Charlie Adlard's rep. (splashpage.com). Walking Dead is just one of my all-time favorite comic series. I can still remember how happy I was when they announced the tv show. Finally, I'm going to put my Wrightson splash from House of Mystery 188 story titled: House of Madness. Bernie, like Al, is in my Mt Rushmore of comic book artists. And I really love this example of his work. It's a super cool early page from 1970, and from his long running association with House of Mystery. Only way it could get any better for me is if it were from his Warren Mag / independents, or Swamp Thing. ... actually I'm glad we didnt go beyond 3... that making the choices for 4 and 5 would have been brutally grueling.
