  1. I am seriously thinking of starting to collect pulps also after seeing all of the beautiful copies in this thread. They seem far more affordable than comics (ie, in my price range) and seem to have lots of hidden treasures within :)

Any recommendations of titles to look into for both art and stories? Thanks!

What genres do you like the best (sci-fi, western, detective, hero pulps, weird menace, aviation, etc.)?

I didn't know where to start helping you but BZ as usual nailed it on the head. Genre is a big driver for pulp collectors (as well as writers first and foremost). Personally, I like Adventure, Aviation and Detective pulps even though I do read the Hero pulps as well. Once decided on a genre, stand-out titles from each will emerge in our collective mind. In fact, I'm curious to hear what others have to say about this issue. So, Ash, what say are your favorite genres?

I am probably most interested in sci-fi/weird menance, hero/adventure and detective pulps (in that order). Aviation and Western pulps have never really interested me (except for non-fiction written during the time of the "Indian Wars").

Thanks BZ and Scrooge (and everyone else)! :foryou:

  3. Wow, I almost bought a double cover Wolverine #50 (w/ a signature) from him. I am glad I chickened out!
Isn't he a board member?

Oh, do tell! I searched, but haven't been able to find any other references to him (stupid "*" in his name; had to use "+thanos +titan" and most posts were by me anyway :( ).

    Thanks, BO.

I know there probably aren't many Weird Tales fans here, but I figured there might be a few people who'd get a kick out of seeing such a historic pulp.

Holy cow!!!....I've always been curious as to what a 1/1 issue looked like....late 1800's !!!...WoW!!!... :o

PS: Is that the original cover???...

Math isn't your strong point, is it? ;)

This is the first March 1923 issue. I read online that there is also a variant where the orange and black was reversed (which actually looks more correct than the "normal" issue).

  5. Wow. I love Raymond's art! He was the first GA artist who's art I saw that really blew me away (good ol' Flash Gordon). I couldn't believe at the time that his art was so much better than everyone else's that I had seen.

(Frazetta was my 2nd GA love :cloud9:)

  6. 6.5 unrestored cgc ACTION # 1

If the AA16 really just sold for anywhere north of 600K, then immediately that validates a 6.5 Blue Action 1 as worth that much or more, with a heckuva lot more upside to come.

Someone wrote earlier that the owner was offered $800K for the AA16 and passed
