The ship has proverbially sailed.  My goal is to have the entire Mirage Studio collection in 9.8 to pass down to my son who is seven.  So these will be in the BDubs family for some time.  As a mid 40s father, I have fond memories of owning all of the TMNTs and drawing for hours on end each comic frame.  With the amazingly done TMNT cartoon, my son caught the fever, and my old comic nostalgia returned.  I would guess the recent rise in interest, arguably its always been there, are dad's in my same position, a son or daughter and a little more coin in the pocket versus days long ago.

Thanks for your suggestions.  Cost was substantial, I will be transparent for the sake of others on results and costs etc.

Love this entire thread and this response. I’m a late-40s father with a teen son who just got into collecting (finally!), and I’m methodically assembling a (very expensive) high grade run of our favorite comic for him to inherit.

Really admire you for this quest! Eager to see the results.

Finding good prices seems harder today then it was last year.  Do you feel the same way?  Here is my theory: I think Covid brought in a ton of new collectors / speculators who stay at home and are more tech savvy.  They monitor deals with multiple alerts and as soon as they see a good deal, it's snatched up.  I read a similar story last week about an Bored Ape NFT that got listed for sale at $3k instead of $300k due to "fat fingers".  It immediately got purchased by a "bot" programmed to find deals.  I wouldn't be surprised if there are people out there with bots looking for comic book pricing mistakes as well on eBay or whatever.

Perhaps that, but also: Disney+ (and to some degree, Netflix) MCU shows. I only collect DD, and prices on keys have skyrocketed since DD (via Kingpin and Echo) was introduced to the MCU. DD’s w/Kingpin and SM crossovers are fetching more than over now.

True, too, for Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Moon Knight, young Avengers cast, Loki, etc.

  3. For those of you who have submitted to CFP before, what has typically been your turn-around time?

I submitted five books -- three SA, a Bronze key, and a Modern key -- in early June. Cleaned and pressed around October 12, then submitted to CGC, fast-tracked, that same week. Still waiting.

Getting updates via email and DM has been...sporadic, at best.

  4. Thanks to this thread, I revisited this series for the first time since '85 when I discovered the trades at a Walden Books while on a very long and very boring cross country road trip with my newly-divorced mom. Totally lost myself in the story, and plowing through volume after volume is one of my favorite memories of an otherwise very turbulent time in my life. Just "picked up" the first volume on ComiXology and I'm once again devouring every single gorgeous panel by Wendy Pini. It's once again my favorite comic of all time.

New collecting goal: first printings of the original series.

    Thank you! :foryou:

I'd like to see CBCS become a more viable contender, but I haven't seen much from them in the way of expansion, and by all accounts they really need to overhaul their customer service department and their website. I certainly wish them luck, but the reality seems to be they're becoming the perennial "also-ran..."  (shrug)

If CBCS’s label didn’t look like trash, I’d seriously consider using them.

As I understand it his email server has crashed leaving him with a heap of data to re-install from back-up.

Add that to thousands of books to press then he's very busy.

He's been responding via PM - but Joey is often too busy too reply for a day or two.

Don't worry, he will get back to you soon.

You can always call - Sandra is very helpful.

Just a very busy time I'm afraid, give it a day or two. :foryou:

Thanks for the encouragement! He did indeed get back to me, so it was needless worrying on my part.

  7. Anyone else having a hard time getting through to @joeypost? Mine was one of the orders that disappeared with the site snafu, but three inquires — two via DM on this board and an email to CFP — over the past few days, and no response.

Three of the “gems” in my meager collection were in the lot — an Iron Fist 14, ASM 238, Strange Adventures 205 — so I’m getting a little nervous. These were books that were submitted 6/20.

Looks like New Teen Titans Annual #2 could be movin on up if this is true:

When I first started collecting in the mid-‘80s, I thought Vigilante’s costume was the coolest thing I’d ever seen. Now, it’s hilariously bad. I wonder how much of it they’ll incorporate into the film.

Related question: Is there any precedence for a comic with a first appearance not increase in value much of the movie version if the character is dramatically different, either due to casting or costuming? For instance, if the SS Vigilante is similar in name only, would collectors still gobble up every issue on eBay
