Strategy for managing too many comics
Cman429 replied to ctbrian's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Selling non key common filler is mostly a waste of time. The time, effort and aggravation isn't worth the twenty bucks you'll make selling a short box. If you have a lot of dollar bin stuff, your best off either giving it to kids at like Halloween or if you do yard sells, selling it there as a dollar bin. I'm into comics for my own interest, not as a business so I only sell stuff to fund other stuff. When I do find a grail book I want or a piece of art I want, I find a key or two or three I wouldn't mind parting with and sell those to repurpose for the stuff I want. -

Rare variant of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #29 issue
Cman429 replied to Roxainer's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I don’t know about your book but I have a rare photo variant Margot Robbie Harley issue that was sold only at a Mexican comicon and last check there was like 3 on CGC census. I’ve had it on eBay for 3 years and gotten like 1 offer. With super ultra rare variants like that nobody looks for them because nobody knows they exist so there’s little market for them. I’ve seen variants with 500-1500 limits go for $300-500 so yours should be at worth at least that but good luck ever selling it, you’ll be waiting years and years to realize fair value. -
Cgc - one submission but only press some books?
Cman429 replied to ctbrian's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions

Off by .5 on every book except Punch (full grade off there). So I guess I rebounded a bit after my atrocious last round. I think the oldest comic I’ve ever submitted to CGC was from 1980 so grading these GA books is a trip. I’m so used to the harsh critique of modems that I’m consistently under grading these relics. I’ve heard legend of a “Golden Bump” on these boards and now see the legend is real.

The first one only made huge bank because they shoehorned it before Avengers and nobody was gonna skip the last chapter before that, no matter how irrelevant. It was a terrible atrocious movie that would’ve done Eternals/Blue Beetle level business if not for that. I get a kick at how even Marvel has no idea what to do with this movie. All the original trailers presented it as a light hearted romp about three mismatched girlfriends zooming through wacky space adventures. Then it dawned on them nobody watched their awful D+ shows nor care about the other Marvels so every recent trailer focuses just on Brie and tries to make it a space action movie. It has the stench of failure all over it and I actually applaud the director for being the first to throw Feige & his machine under the bus instead of being a good soldier and going down with the ship.

Yeah I’ve always said 15 is a “perfect” score. Since grading is not an exact science, being within 1 grade of CGC every time is about as good as you can hope for. As for Mike’s cryptic emojis, I got excited when I got a rocket in R2 then later saw I scored 2 so he’s definitely sending a message with those. But some, like the can juggler which I also got in my horrific last round, you need to be Alan Turing to figure out

The tagging and reminders probably contribute to less people dropping off. Public shaming tends to do that. I wish Stats Guy had a stat for attrition rate and compared each contest to the preceding ones. Anyway, from hovering around the top 10 to dropping out of the top 25 after a single disastrous round - actually one disastrous book. Pretty bummed by my showing this round.

Nova was the first non “classic 60s core” hero I became a huge fan of. He reminded me of Spidey except with way more power a bit less of a diva. I had a bunch of issues from LCS growing up and the full run was literally the first thing I bought on internet when rec.arts.comics.market was where you sent strangers money hoping you didn’t get ripped off (I went 4 for 6). I always thought they gave up on the character too quick as he had potential to be Marvel’s GL.

He's going to be at Galaxycon Columbus in December where I look forward to getting his album signed! I think they accept mail-ins too for some fee if you can't make it to beautiful Columbus, Ohio.

Can someone explain this ComicConnect Auction “coincidence”
Cman429 replied to mikenyc's topic in Comics General
Anybody involved in the comic or trading card “hobbies” has heard plenty of stories of market manipulation whether it be big dealers colluding to drive up the price of an auction or companies with a stash of a certain item having “friends’ that ensure they”re taken care of on the grading side or what have you. When you deal with any large successful company dealing in collectibles, you best assume it’s like walking into a casino in Vegas. Your may win some, you may lose some but you’re naive if you don’t think they don’t have thumbs on the scale to ensure they always come out ahead. -
Disney+'s WEREWOLF BY NIGHT starring Gael Garcia Bernal (2022)
Cman429 replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
I don’t see how releasing a colored version is “profiting off it twice.” I suppose there’s a handful of rabid WWBN fans who might resubscribe to D+ to see the color version but that number is barely negligible. Snyder’s JLA was a billion times more popular and turned out that releasing his cut barely moved the needle on Max subscriptions. The reason they’re redoing it is likely twofold. First, there are some goofballs who absolutely refuse to watch anything black and white. It could be the greatest masterpiece of all time, they see b&w they skip it. Probably use TikTok too. The other reason is Disney is so broke they can’t do a Halloween special this year so they’re reusing last years. FWIW, this and the GOTG Christmas were the only two great Marvel originals D+ ever made. Everything else is either forgettable to utterly unwatchable. I’m glad they put WWBN on Hulu since I cancelled my D sub and it’s really the only one I ever had a desire to rewatch bc it was freakin awesome. -

$35 to ship 140 comics is dirt cheap LOL There are goofballs on sellers forums and IG that charge $10 for ship just 2-3 measly little comics here in the US. -

Grading is subjective. I’ve gotten “good” books on eBay that graded out to 9.5s and I’ve seen people advertise “near mint! Like brand new!” comics that look like garbage. I think you should look at the books and if they look acceptable to you, buy them and don’t depend on a seller who might be totally clueless -
ANT-MAN & THE WASP QUANTUMANIA directed by Peyton Reed (2023)
Cman429 replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
Ant3 was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen and I watch all the Asylum movies. If they really thought that they had gold there then Feige has lost his mind- 1,060 replies
