  1. An Avengers 57 just sold by PM in this thread:

    http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8508902

A poster then makes a statement that the book looks trimmed on 3 sides. After comparing it to a graded copy I have it certainly looks like it is missing quite a bit of art on top & bottom edges.

Is it appropriate to discuss this type stuff in a sales thread?

I do not think it is appropriate.

But I had sent the seller a pm before the sale was completed letting him know I thought the book had CT in the clouds. He replied saying he did not think it was restored and then the book sold.

I agree that it wasn't appropriate, but since the book was bought by PM, there is no other way to let the buyer know there may be issues.

I certainly miss color resto & trimming more than I should, but this book really jumps out as trimmed when compared to other copies.

  3. What's with more & more veteran sellers no longer giving books a grade in the sales section? I fully understand when a new seller, that is unfamiliar with detailed grading, just posts pics of books. It's sort of a buyers beware warning to me, but understandable. I also understand when you are running a $3 or $5 sale with stacks of books that you may not list a grade. And yes, I know the "rules" state a scan is acceptable, I just always felt that was a concession for newbs that didn't have the ability to assign a grade.

It just seems like more & more knowledgeable sellers are using this method & just posting scans & price. I understand the whole concept of buy the book, not the grade, but without shots of the back cover or inside page issues it's just difficult to judge sometimes. When they are bulk pricing stuff at $5 to move it out it's fine, when your asking $20 to $100+ a book list a grade if you have the ability to.

While 'm ranting, it's also extremely annoying when you get a nice front cover scan & a note that back cover has staining. Post a picture of the back cover if it's the part of the book with the major flaw!

  4. I run piles for my buyers over a year sometimes, check my feedback. If things go up, well then they do. I sold a Dr Strange #1 to a nice boardie in the UK in vf shape for $30 a long time ago. I still have it in front of me, just about to ship out now. Same book probably go for $60 right now. I would never think of "losing it". Right now as we speak I have piles for 7 people that range anywhere from 1 week to a year. But all their books are pulled and in their pile!

Regardless of personal thoughts on length of time of a pile both parties agreed to wait until a short box was full.

Also I'm sure I'm not the only person this seller keeps piles for either.

And this is skirting the issue, I'm more upset over the avoidance here.

I should also mention the seller has posted numerous times since the PM's and even started a couple new sales threads.

    Out the seller.

He gives you the exact date to look at to find the seller. Don't be lazy.

  5. comicseekers AKA primeinvestibles AKA megacon

is back...in two different screen names it seems.

Toyman is the one I am convinced is a new comicseekers shill

I posted the :takeit: today on his thread for signs and other items..

    http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=8461135#Post8461135

Then the PM with a total and paypal address.

The paypal address included the name "Candido" in it, which everyone who remembers is comic seekers real last name. He went by Sergio Candido, and sometimes Steve and some other names.

So I asked for a name and address to whom I could mail out and make out a check.

    He sent back

    Segio 'Steve' Candido

    (address withheld)

    Fountain Valley, CA

The "segio" is an intentional misspelling. He told me that's his name, "segio", with no "r"...and that people call him Steve. He plainly claims he is NOT Sergio, there's no Sergio, just Segio.

I withheld the full address but this is just a couple miles from the old Huntington Beach address he used to use. I will be happy to supply the mods the full address information.

The complete address provided matches, exactly, the address included on a website registered by Sergio Candido, and the movie production company he mentions in several places, and carries the registrant email address of sergio-candido@hotmail.com

His feedback/kudos thread has everyone calling him "SAM"....when confronted on this he said that "SAM" was his "brother" that uses the name "Comikat" on the boards.

    http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=295628&Number=6610949#Post6610949

    Short Version:

This is Sergio Candido AKA Steve AKA Comicseekers and all those other shill names,

based on several pieces of information I was able to link together that I will be glad to supply the mods. I don't want to post addresses publicly, but I can supply them to the board administration.

I think the second name is actually "comickat" not "comikat". I was informed that comickat & toyman share a paypal account also. This was dug up by another boardie as we were both trying to return orders to one of the accounts & he then placed an order with the second account.

Also Comickat signed his messages Steve in our transaction.

  6. Daredevil #168 CGC 9.6 @ $327 & 20 bids.

    Avengers Annual #7 CGC 9.6 @ $225 in a BIN

    Sub Mariner #34 CGC 9.8 @ $727 & 40 bids.

Some interesting auctions. Congrats to the buyers and the sellers. (thumbs u

Calling Sub-Mariner #34 1st Pre Defenders is basically a lie.

Just curious why you feel that way? It has been thought of that way for at least the last 30 years. It is listed in Overstreet that way under Sub-Mariner 34 & also noted as a pre-appearance under Marvel Feature #1. I understand everyone has their own opinion, but this one seems pretty obvious.

It also says it on the CGC label. Can't pin this on the seller, though if you want to call CGC liars, that's fine.

sub-Mariner 34 features Subby, Hulk and Surfer. The Original Defenders are Subby, Hulk and Strange and Hulk leaves in the first issue according to the wikia.

So two members appearing in the same book constitute the "team"?

As an example, did Iron Man, Hulk and / or Thor ever meet before Avengers 1?

I'm assuming that you have arrived at your conclusion without ever having read Marvel Feature #1? In Marvel Feature #1 (The 1st Defenders) Strange seeks out Namor for help.

Namor agrees to help & suggests they locate The Hulk & Silver Surfer because the had fought as allies in a previous battle. They were able to locate the Hulk but the Silver Surfer was unconscious after trying to break the hidden barrier that trapped him on earth. So they went into battle without the Silver Surfer.

Yes, the Hulk left after the first battle, as did Strange & Namor. They all 3 got back together in the next issue (which I am assuming you didn't read either).

  8. So is it a cameo or a full? No doubt the appearance pre-dates 266.

Boscoe had some scans of the 5 or so panels he was featured in posted in an older thread, but the links are dead, maybe he'll repost them here.

Just to get the correct information posted, Gambit appeared on at least 10 different pages in the Annual. He appeared in at least 17 panels & spoke in at least 8 of them. He was featured with Storm over a 3 page scene from pages 15-17. I use the term "at least" because these were the appearances I noted, there could be more in some of the larger crowd scenes.

    This is not a cameo.

  9. Don't blink else you guys might miss another fast rising star...

Looks like Demon #1 is starting to trend up. This copy @ $10 but 30 watchers.. I'll be interested to see how high it goes before the close of auction. hm

    :P

I know it's heating up because of the JLA Dark news, but the Demon is such a cool character that this shouldn't come as a total surprise.Besides Darkseid, I always thought the Demon was the most noteworthy character that Kirby created for DC, especially considering how well he has evolved over the years.

Also, while I'm sure it had a nice sized print run, I don't think it was hoarded in the numbers that Kirby's 4th World books were. Early issues were some of Kirbys best DC work.

Plus, it's a book that I always grabbed when I saw it in a long box so that's always good.

  10. People are so crazy!

It kills me every time these books shoot up like this.

There is NO chance of long term sustainability on these books, is there?

IMO there just is no way....

This is way different then say a Captain America (Winter Soldier) #6, where it has kept a respectable price tag after the fact, at least in my mind...

Yeah, sometimes I wonder if the buyers know something I don't. When X-Force #2 got hot I sold about 50 copies in a week or so & started thinking "what if this book just keeps going up, I'm going to hate myself when it is going for $100"

I was actually starting to doubt the logic of selling X-Force #2's at $20 a pop.

  11. Sleepwalker #1 will be on the uptick.

    After tomorrow....

    That's just crazy.

I've got a couple of long boxes that I put my junk books in & let the kids go at them. Most of the books are destroyed, but the 30 copies of Sleepwalker #1 have remained untouched for over 5 years.

I put them on ebay & have sold 20 of them so far today, for close to $300.

I am now pulling all my Wonder Man #1's for the eventual gold mine that is to come.

  12. The Cat #1 raws:

    one ringy dingy

    2 ringy dingy

Holy beejeezus - couldn't give those away just a few years ago. :o

Great book, classic Marie Severin/Wally Wood art. Was looking at a stack of them yesterday thinking it was a shame that the book was never recognized.

I agree, but I doubt I got more than $40 for my OO set . . . :sorry:

Well, truthfully, the book lost a lot of steam after Wood left after the first issue. But that first issue was sweet!

  13. For those that believe Brave & Bold #54 was the Teen Titans first appearance.

During the Summer of 76, when I was 13 I was out in the neighborhood & decided to rescue a cat out of a tree for sweet little Donna Sue. Soon after Robert & Wally came to help me get that cat down. The 3 of us managed to get the cat after about 20 minutes of hard work, It was the beginning of a friendship that lasted through high school. When we turned 16, in 79, we started a club (with Donna Sue) & named ourselves the Warriors.

Was the Warriors first appearance in 76 or 79?

It's really that simple, no matter what Overstreet says.

  14. Xforce 2 getting more heat, with Liefeld announcement that Kane will also be utilized in the upcomming movie.

I've picked up a number of copies of X-Force #2 over the years, including an initial order of a couple of dozen when it first came out. Many of the copies have a printing defect that almost looks like a very light production crease running diagonally across the cover in different areas. It doesn't show up in scans & sometimes i'll even miss it under a heavy light.

Anybody that has multiple copies care to chime in on whether this is common on the book & how it would affect the grade? I'm assuming it is related to the silver foil process used but not sure how to grade an otherwise NM/M book.

    Silver Foil?

None of my copies have foil on them.

Sorry, edited to say silver ink, similar to what was used in the Marvel Milestone books.

  16. There's no way a 2 hour movie can be made of a 100 issue comic series, especially one as convoluted as 100 bullets. Not without changing and cutting so much of the lot that it essentially becomes a completely different story.

Not that it wouldn't be good - but perhaps too different to mean much of a price bump for the books?

Yeah, I agree. I'm hopeful that it still somehow ends up as an HBO/Showtime series. That would be the only way to do it justice.

Like others have mentioned, the first 15-20 issues were ok, but it really started to roll once all the stories started to roll into each other. The last 50-60 issues were just unbelievable.

  17. Bumping this thread because of the recent announcement that 100 bullets is in development (along with some other DC titles) but also because this is one of my favorite titles and figured others might like to discuss it.

Was just about to start a 100 Bullets thread & found this one. With it being one of the 9 (or was it 11) titles that Warner Bros has in development, you would think there would be some good discussion.

I would have much preferred a TV series for the book, but hopefully a movie can be done to do it justice. I've always been surprised that there is so little talk about this series as it is by far my favorite modern series. Great characters, a storyline that always keeps you guessing & some of the nicest art ever.

With a book that has so many notable characters & first appearances it's crazy that there is no investment discussion about the different Minute Men characters. Issue #1 is really the only book to have any value, but there are a ton of firsts throughout the first 50 issues that could all pop depending on who is focused on in the movie.

  18. Bought a large lot of #1 bronze comics from 1Cool. Although many of the books were graded at G to VG/F the grading was extremely tight & all books presented very nicely. Was very pleasantly surprised when they arrived.

    Thanks Andrew, very much appreciated.
