  1. A few more Coppers heating up:

    UXM #283

    Marvels #1

    UXM #318 (DC)

    GA #1

Amazing price on the Green Arrow #1 all things considered. I wondered if the TV series has made the character relevant again so I checked MCS to see what they were buying & selling it at. Shocking that they are out of stock on the book with the late 80s print runs, although they are only buying them at $1.50. It's one of the first books I invested heavily in so I hope it takes off, to this point getting cover price would be nice.

  2.

    I would pay $5 all day long for 9.6+ copies . . .

And I'll be in line right behind David. (thumbs u

Yeah, but $53 for a book with two visible color-breaking ticks and no back cover scan? That's nuts. I wish I had a few $5 9.2s to sell.

    Yep, I'll take that. :D

That guy was getting really nice prices on a bunch of books.

    Raw High Grade Nova #1 - $114

Raw High Grade She Hulk #1 - $63

    Raw High Grade Inhumans #1 - $93

Raw High Grade Marvel Premiere #47 - $164

I know some of these books have gotten hotter but the pricing seems pretty high on most.

  3. the "all 20 must sell" thing does give me pause becuase its basically him saying "if I dont get rid of all of this stuff I dont want to have to give up the Stan Lee SS" which again makes it seem a little more like a raffle and less like a straight mystery box sale.

I took it to mean the exact opposite. How would the buyers feel if 19 boxes sold but the SS Stan Lee book was in the one that did not go out? The seller would be in a no win situation because nobody would believe that it was a random act.

  4. The real crime here, isnt that people missed trimming TWICE, since the books been subbed three times, and only came back purple once. It's the fact that they are so admant about not making things right or admitting the error the first time.

I'm not sure it's been established that the book is actually trimmed or not. :insane:

The problem is, you know CGC will try to get this book back to take another long look at it. If I was the new owner there is no way in heck I'd hand the book back, because I no longer have any faith that they know one way or the other.

  5. Noticed the HELLBOY 4 PAGE PROMO INSERT from the CBG is listed from $200 - $300 on ebay. There were no sales reported so I was wondering whether this is truly a realistic price for the CBG supplement.

It seems like this would be a highly counterfeited item because of the b&w one sheet make up. I've also heard that there were a portion released at a Con in Detroit that were not stapled into the CBG issue, thus not bearing the staple holes.

Are those hard to move because of counterfeit concerns?

    Thanks

  6. That stain would be a deal breaker for a large group of collectors.

When Dan made the statement about the corner, it was obvious to me that it was a stain. He was taking pictures from all angles & it was there in multiple photos. My thought then was that it would not end well.

The problem is that even with the grade it got, it's gone down in value with the stain notation, & some collectors would just pass it by.

  7. Thoughts on Dark Knight Returns #4?

It's a book that I used to be able to find pretty cheap that seems to be trending up on ebay over the last few months. It's from a classic series & features Frank Millers original interpretation of the Batman/Superman relationship that has been followed for the last 25-30 years.

I hadn't really been keeping up with the movie news but recently read that it will be the inspiration for (although not an adaption of) the Superman vs Batman movie. When introducing the film there was a direct quote from Millers writing:

"I want you to remember, Clark. In all the years to come. In all your most private moments. I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you."

  8. Booster Gold #1

I hope so!! I got a few of those.

    Hand 'em over !

    stick-em-up.jpg

This is the version of Booster Gold #1 you want to have.......

    BoosterGold1var_zpsf38ed5e6.jpg

Yep- that's the one. I have 1-8 and two extra copies of #1

It's amazing how small the comic market really is.

Booster Gold #1 was a $2 book in October. It has a BIN seemingly hit for $200+ in mid Nov & becomes a hot book over night. After the $200+ BIN there were a couple of $7-$10 raw auction sells & now it is being listed at $25-$50 raw BIN.

Whether the market is being manipulated or not, it just shows how easy it would be to do so. I watched in interest as it was done in the Modern market, & now it seems to be happening in the Copper market.

Don't get me wrong, I've got a decent stash of #1's that I always thought would be sold in a bulk lot at .25 cents, so I'm all for the ride. It's just interesting how easy it is to alter the comic market off of one sell. I sort of understand it when a book like AF #15 goes for a record price, but seeing the same being applied to Booster Gold #1 is really testing the theory.

  9. lol unlike all these other copper books.

Well, even though 250,000 is kinda ridiculous, it pales in comparison to 1 million books printed (say, UXM 266 v.s 1991's X-Men #4)

But I do see your point!

    :)

    -slym

That period seemed to be the tipping point to me. X-Men 250-270 were all over the place, but it mostly seemed to be the dealers ordering huge amounts for back stock. Somewhere in the mid 270s it seemed like even collectors started jumping on ordering hundreds of single issues.

I wasn't a dealer, but set up at shows & had piles of X-Men 271-up. They sold like crazy up through about 283, but with each issue, more & more collector/dealers had piles of these. Collectors would bring stacks of the 281-283s to shows trying to sell to dealers that already had piles.

The X-Men 4 was the tipping point for me, as they were just everywhere & people were pushing a character that I didn't even find that interesting.

I had a good friend that was a co-owner of a shop at that time. He was being bought out & they were paying him partially in back stock. He tried to get multiple cases of the Jim Lee X-Men #1 included in the deal, but his partners refused & made him select early Silver Age stock instead. It really pissed him off at the time, but we laugh about it now. Everyone thought they were sitting on a fortune...

  10. Almost 100 new views to my thread in the Mixed section asking a few questions, and only three people bothered to respond, via PM.

Thank you, you three! (You know who you are.)

    :foryou:

    -slym (sincerely, not sarcastically)

I wasn't in the market for anything you were selling. My thoughts are that most of the forum members are either buying to flip the hot book or looking for dirt cheap pricing.

Your hot books sold (apocalypse/archangel). Copper & modern X-Men related books are an extremely hard sell at any price as everybody has them.

Images were on the small side &I thought your grading was a little optimistic, or possibly just based on the front covers. I noticed a lot of damage on the back covers that would drop some of the books from 9.0-9.4 down to 7.5-8.0.

Good luck with the next sale.

  11. Question - if two board members do a deal that turns sour outside of the boards can I still put the board member on the probation list?

If I am the buyer and the I make a deal with the seller and then the seller tells another buyer that the piece is sold but then the other buyer makes a higher offer and then the seller comes back to me and asks for more and I refuse and then the seller decides to sell to the other buyer, can I put that seller on the probation list?

    I would vote no.

In fact, if no money ever switches hands I would vote no on even the board transactions.

Maybe we need to add a Butthurt section. This could include the deals where we feel our time has been wasted, but that there hasn't actually been a payment made.

HOS - True conman territory. Bad guys who have screwed people over multiple times.

Probation- Someone took my money & it took months to get the think worked out. They fell off the internet after losing a job or a bad family situation & cannot be trusted.

Butthurt- I was the first in the thread to :takeit: . It's my book & the deal didn't get completed for some reason. Did I lose money? No, but I wasted a valuable 2 minutes of my life time. Similar to if you call a comic shop & reserve something, but when you arrive they can't find it or accidently sold it to another customer. Wasted my time.

Sorry, it just seems like people are getting hit up for the probation thread for some pretty minor situations even when they are not bad guys or habitual problems.

Guys, I'm not arguing with anyone over this, it's just my opinion that the boards have gotten pretty petty lately & if someone doesn't run off with my $$$ I'm able to get over it.

I understand Logan has a totally different opinion. He tried to bury Quality Comics on the Probation List forever over an $8 Copper X-Men book that was offered to him for free. That's his right under the Probation List rules, but it just seems petty to hold a grudge over such a small transaction in what is supposed to be a loved hobby.

As far as your dog, I certainly respect his opposing opinion.

  12. The rules basically say once the deal is made, both sides must complete their respective duties. If one or the other doesn't, you can be nominated for the PL. Not everyone nominated is put on the list, just those who don't reach a mutual conclusion.

Well yeah, but it appears this transaction did not take place on the boards. Rules at one time were for board transactions only, then it included PMs, does it now include emails off the board?

I enjoy a Boardie Outing as much as anyone, just seems it's getting to where any type of disagreement leads to Probation discussion.

I've had this happen to me more than once on the boards from some pretty big names. I get some half- excuse & I file it away. I don't feel like the :takeit: gives me iron clad rights to a book until payment has been taken. Much less stressful approach than trying to plaster a scarlet letter on every seller (or buyer) that a deal falls through with.

Just so I am clear on "not being a bad guy" or "a habitual problem": You are saying that it is OK to make a deal with someone, use that deal to milk a higher offer out of someone else, then use that offer to try and milk more money out of the guy that already has a contract on the book, and when that doesn't work, sell it to the 2nd person?

That, to me, is way worse than just screwing up or welching on a deal. Way, way worse.

I'm not saying it is ok, just that it's not really my idea of a probation offense. It would annoy the heck out of me, but really, if no money was exchanged I would just move on. I guess I've had enough deals fall through in real life that if I'm not being ripped off then I can move on pretty quickly. Losing out on a comic, even if it was bs, shouldn't be such a large deal imo.

Yeah, the milking a higher deal out of a 2nd buyer would certainly say something about the sellers character, but I just don't see it probation worthy like when someone is walking off with peoples money.

It's a hobby & unless someone is stealing something from me, I find it pretty easy to just move on if a deal falls through.

  15. X-Men Annual #14

why you think it will increase in value?

Now apparently 1st appearance of gambit?

(%) probability that it will go up.

100% - new series is selling well & getting a lot of interest

what price do you think it will achieve?

    $30 - $40

how long we should hold it? ie. long term/short term

flip the cheap one's now and buy more

As this heats up, do you think it will sink the value of 266? Or will the increased interest in Gambit also drive 266 as his first "full" appearance?

I hope this is gonna go up. I have a store that is sitting on approx 20 copies in NM- or better at cover price. They seem to be sellin online in the 4-9 range .. so I might cherry pick a half dozen of the best and play the waiting game.

There is a reason why your store has 20 copies. A they printed the hell out of it and B its a cameo so its never gone up in value much. X-men 266 is safe I dont see this book sky rocketing.

I don't expect it to ever overtake X-Men 266 but it is definitely more than just a cameo appearance. Gambit was running around with the rest of the mob of characters for a good 10 pages (arriving with Storm).

This book has been unfairly presented as a cameo for years & people are finally realizing that it actually does have a claim to Gambit's first appearance. Most of the people calling it a Cameo have never even looked through the book to try to see what was going on in that convoluted storyline. Sometimes I think the "Cameo" term is as bad as "Restoration" when looking at a books investment potential.

Marvel's distribution department screwed up & this book is Gambit's first appearance. When the book hit I thought "Hey they have a new character in the X-men, where the heck did he come from??" A few weeks later it all made sense, but it doesn't change the fact that the Annual was his first appearance.

I've seen some raws moving for $8-$12 on ebay, which is a decent jump from a year ago.

  16. Looking for a pretty good answer about a situation I'm in at the moment. Hope someone can guide me through it as expected here on the boards.

Last Thursday I auctioned off some books here to a new boardie (Kat5040) and I sent an invoice/messege. I got a response stating that the books would be paid for on Monday (2 days ago) This never happened. I sent a messege Monday evening around 10:30 pm est and til this moment it's been unread. Whats my obligation? How long do I hang and wait and when is this deal dead. I personally wouldnt mind not even selling the books.

I just spoke through PMs with Annihilus and Zonker, both have open unpaid issues with this same noob boardie. The outlook isn't hopeful and I wish to move on and consider my deal dead. Should this noob come back to earth next week/month and say that Junk welched on a deal...well I dont want that over my head. Help me out here please. Thanks again.

    Chris

If they said it would be paid on Monday i would give them a few extra days and if still no payment consider the deal dead and move on.

If the buyer said he would pay on Monday & then didn't pay, didn't he break the deal? Why should Junk have to wait 10 days/30days/whatever? The terms of the deal were broken by the buyer.

  17. But the same thing goes for everyone here! I don't understand where the double standard comes from. :sumo:

Because the white knights must save the board from the cancer (or rather the individual who is like :eyeroll: a cancer). I'm sure one of them has an iPhone app that lets them know when RMA posts, then an automatic PM goes out to all the knights with the link to the offending thread.

    Everyone expects this inquisition.

I realize you consider RMA a friend & feel the need to defend him (enabling is always a good thing), but is it really that difficult to understand why someone would find his posting style offensive/annoying?

There's a group that defend him at every turn, many times before he is able to defend himself. I understand you feel he is the underdog & that everyone is piling on, but he has really ramped up his style over the last few months. When someone disagrees with him he takes it personally & goes on attack mode.

It's just like if you are out at a restaurant & there is some clown making a scene at the next table. First time you may overlook it, second time you might confront him, by the third time you go to management.

That's all that is happening here, management has been notified of his behavior & they are the ones making the decision.

  18. I'm sure none of the parties defending RMA has ever received one of his run on PM's. I think I made 2 posts in his earlier blowup. One consisted of "don't get him started again". The other was questioning whether his blowup had damaged himself more than Lonestar Comics. Never called him a name or attacked him in any way.

So I get this massive run on PM attacking my character, ethics, morals & intelligence. It was an amazing piece of work considering that he really wasn't even on my radar for the most part. Basically questioning how I could live with myself being such a morally & ethically corrupt person. I actually had to go back & reread what I had posted.

I sent a reply asking him not to PM me again because I wouldn't be reading anything else from him. He sent me a second PM berating me in the Subject Headline, who knows what he had inside the pm. I can just imagine some of the PMs sent to people he publicly dislikes.
