  1. But that's the world I am talking about. It's all I mentioned and it is what I based my assertions on. those GA books now go for double there.
  2. I legitimately don't think it will. In the 7 decades of this hobby, the only comics that have maintained their value were the ones that also had an element of scarcity to counter any wavering demand. This comic does not have that. And 9.8 isn't even the highest available grade for this comic. If the nest egg is what you are doing it for, it's the wrong reason. Get it because you like it, no other reason makes more sense.
  3. Here are some of my wins, let me know if this is cheap enough. I always bid OPG price. Certainly looks cheap now, these same lots would all go for 2-3 times the price I paid
  4. Honestly, those prices look nuts too, they don't seem like opportunities anymore than the marvel books do.
  5. The answer in general is yes, they were. I was able to get books like those last year for similar prices. Dirt cheap, lower than price guide. I even made a thread all about it. I am not giving single isolated examples either. Every single lot from heritage for this past year which contained GA Marvel Family books has gotten more than double GPA/OPG. So it's a trend. Hence why I am selling all my doubles now. You can do a search on heritage to see how much lots sell for now compared to last year, or 5 years ago, whatever you want. You'll see the same thing I said. Double GPA/OPG right now, compared to last year.
  6. Fawcetts. They all doubled or more. Even random lots. https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/superhero/the-marvel-family-group-of-4-fawcett-publications-1946-total-4-comic-books-/a/122107-15423.s?ic2=mybidspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyBids-101116 The Marvel Family Group of 4 (Fawcett Publications, 1946). Includes #3 (FN), 7 (Wizard Shazam appearance - FN-), 9 (GD/VG), and 10 (VG-). Approximate Overstreet value for group = $400. That's just one example. All lots from that date on have gone double or more the GPA (which has been around guide price for the past 15 years)
  7. About this whole "pay more for a better grade" thing, I never saw it that way. Because the common denominator with tiers is not the worth of the book, it's the speed of the service. To save on shipping (to Canada), I have often put books that were worth less than other books within the same tier so that they could be graded at the same time and be sent back to me at the same time. Just like how many card collectors are now sending their cards through higher tiers than Bulk even though their cards are different values, they just don't want to wait as long and miss the market window for profit, which could drop at any moment. All just to say that I see the tiers based on speed of service. A 200$ book can be sent to whatever tier you want, no discrimination. Since the declared value is for insurance purposes, CGC wants to minimize exposure to risk and so, they will say that books of certain values have to be sent for speedier services. Like that they hold onto it for less time and there are less chances of losing it, or it being damaged, ect. Basically, you are never paying more just because your book is worth more, that would be a conflict of interest. You are paying more because you are getting the faster service. That's the actual exchange of money for service happening here. That's how I saw it.
  8. Anything could happen, especially if you are asking them to handle a sealed book (meaning one department has to take it out of the slab, and then send to another department who then grades it). THERE IS NO STARTING POINT, the grader is sent the book without knowledge that it was ever slabbed before. It could some back 9.8, 9.8, 9.4, 9,2, and on and on
  9. So why don't you just put a price that you don't mind losing out to. That's what I do. If there is a comic I really like, I just put the highest price I would conceivably pay for. If I get outbid later, then so be it. And don't wuss out, put the real big price. The price you are sure no one would outbid you on. If you are not willing to do that, then you don't want the book as much as the other guy.
  10. Oh yeah and my dreams of owning Turtles 1 is dead, I won't be spending the money it's going for now.
  11. Pretty bad. I thought I would have a few years of cheap GA books left to get the ones I wanted. But that's dead in the water right now. I do have major regrets of not buying moderns that I had full access to 10 years ago which are now selling for 100 times cover price, and I guess that impacts my collecting somewhat since I could sell those and leverage the increase in prices on the books I do want. But we could play this hindsight 20 20 game all day. Really curious to see where this goes later. Many of these modern books just need a small dip in demand to drop like crazy, like we saw with Man of Steel 18 a few years back.
  12. Then that settles it. Buy it now. BUT buy it in auction so you are sure you are paying the market value of that moment. You could get one for 1000$ on auction maybe. There are 4 on auction here right now, buy any of those: https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dwolverine%2B1%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1459469&id=1459469&itemType=0 https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dwolverine%2B1%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1465446&id=1465446&itemType=0 https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dwolverine%2B1%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1471036&id=1471036&itemType=0 https://www.comiclink.com/auctions/item.asp?back=%2FAUCTIONS%2FSEARCH.ASP%3FFocusedOnly%3D1%26where%3Dauctions%26title%3Dwolverine%2B1%26ItemType%3DCB%23Item_1471318&id=1471318&itemType=0
  13. The answer is yes to both. A green label complete book would be worth more than a cover less book
  14. We dont know. All we know is the current market value. I suggest you buy one on auction, like comic connect or comic link. Like that you are sure to buy "market value".
  15. I doubt it. Especially since the graders do not have a grade to work with. All cross grades are unslabbed before being handed to the grader, same for people asking to unslab their comic, press it and regrade it.
  16. Your right, I don't know. I thought it was 1 month for all tiers. That was the blanket statement they gave in other threads on these boards. Sorry about that, I hope you get your cards recieved soon.
  17. Well, if they had sentimental value, why arent they still in their collection? Joking aside, I am curious, why would you deslab them? Wouldnt they at last be worth a tiny bit more in the slab. I've seen unknowing fans buy random cheap slabs at shows simply for the effect of the slab. Like a frame for an interesting cover.
  18. that's a valid point, I have no answer for that. It seems to not matter. Will you be doing business with them again?
  19. Well I mostly collect golden age books for my slabs and I do so for the covers, which I adore. Honestly, golden age books are not the easiest to read. I do have slabs of modern books which I did read either in a trade or in another method. Like I have the first appearance of Tommy Elliot and Phantom X and I have those issues in trades where I read them originally. I also have the first appearance of the Cosmic Ghost Rider slabbed and I will read that story digitally. So yeah, for my "modern" slabs, I have that issue in some form to read. But not for all my golden age slabs. Edit: for the silver age books that I had slabbed like Daredevil 1, Brave and the Bold 30 and Fantastic Four 5, I did read the comics before hand.
  20. I don't get what's hard to understand. Walkthrough only means it will take 1 day to grade once they open your package (aka status recieved). It now takes about 1 month for them to open your package, regardless of what you write on the box (exception being signature events since they are time sensitive). Simple as that.
