That is a beauty❤️
Thanks.
The downside to helping out at a comic book store as is it costs me money helping out there. I see books like this walking thru the door and I'm like ok, a 1945 Batman. Needs a new home 👍

When it comes to bronze I'd be careful how much you spend, there's a lot out there and a lot that is now seeing the light of day in fifty years.
I help out at a comic book store and these are on consignment from a gentleman who had a arrangement with a lady who worked at a distribution company.
He was able to buy as much as he wanted when they came out for half cover price. He bought them and unread were put into a box and stored away until now.
I cherry picked a Demon 1 for myself
The books he bought were random, and in numbers. Here is some others.

Bronze and silver minor keys I've never owned before.
If I want something I usually don't find it or pay thru the nose.
If I'm mah! With a book I usually come across one pick it up like at a bargain or way lower then FMV.
2022 I came across a HOS 92 though I think Swamp thing is a cool character I'm not a avid fan and when one was offered to me at half FMV I pulled the trigger.
It's a different collecting mindset I have, yet it seems to get me cool books I'm not actively chasing for a song so it works for me.
So I picked up minor keys and high grade unread books.
Unread books
The Doc Savage unread copies were dirt cheap, $15 each so I gave two copies away to board members on here for free.
I cherry picked this book unread from a collection of copies.
I picked up another Lois for $30
And I picked this book up, just love the cover.
Some wonder women's
and Night Nurse
And another ped for my TTA run
Other books but these are the ones I remember.

If you're having trouble.
The name is Donald Olsen.
Of course Donald had a subscription of Donald Duck in the 40s 🤘

I've been targeting bronze age lately in really nice raw grade.
$15, I bought a few of these doc savage and gave away two copies to forum members on here. They were just to cheap and nice not to give a couple away.
$20 each.
Unread copies
Then this key $175
Then I couldn't help myself as they look so nice
Generally my sweet spot is $30
I'm always looking for a bargain even a key from my lcs.
During the 2022 crazy prices
$400
$125
$30
$10
$5
And $500
$125
I try and buy well.
And the prices I'm paying I'm sure I could possibly find at least one collector to pay me what I actually paid.
I generally buy the cheaper books under $30 or less unless something comes along and the price I feel is right and I'd like to own the book.

Any you old timers like myself remember the counterfeit copy used to be listed at $50 in Overstreet.
Then the Overstreet started listing it as 'No value' because it doesn't have a value.
If anyone wants to throw good money for fakes, to each their own.

I'm talking about a major flaw with the book that was missed during the grading process. Not the grade that was assigned the book.
Once the book is out of the slab any major flaws missed like missing pages would be hard to prove against a grading company.
Whose to say that it's the same book.

If you get a still sealed universal CGC slab and decide to crack it to find either restoration, book is incomplete, or any other major flaw, who's to blame at that point?
No one.
The book is graded and they give their opinion of the book with a numerical assigned grade and page quality.
Once cracked out of the slab it's no longer a graded book by the third party grading company.
It's grade now is the opinion of whoever is looking at it.
So for the third party grading company is all about trust, professionalism and acceptance with other parties willing to buy it.
Probably why the bulk of the books being graded in the United States are sent into only two companies though there are more operating.

^ what is your SWAG guess of the percentage of cracked out books that sustain some damage in the process? 1-5%, 6-8% higher? No matter how careful or how many the person potential for risk is plausible. Even .5% of 1000 is 5 books damaged.
Not sure but many years ago I bought a TTA 96 in 9.6 Boston pedigree.
At the time there were only 6, 9.6 copies on the census for CGC, one other was the White mountain pedigree copy.
A few years later I saw the White mountain pedigree copy CGC a 9.4, so obviously the book had been cracked out and resub and it came back lower.
Not sure if the book was damaged in a crack slab or the book had been cracked out, read then slabbed again for resale?

Amateur restoration the price has to go down.
I won't pay anymore of 50% of fair market value for restored books.
Some collectors pay more and that's up to them.

I was playing D&D with my school friends and I bought the Marvel superheroes roleplaying game for something different. The rule book said you can get good ideas from Marvel comic books for adventures.
The game came with a adventure module called The day of the octopus.
Spiderman and Avengers against Doc Ock and a bunch of Spidey villains.
So the next day I ventured to the new stand and bought this book.
This is the same exact comic book.
I enjoyed reading it and the next day I bought Avengers 277 and I've been buying and collecting ever since. 👍
